this is the tactic i use which involves moving spoils of war to my base - calisto ariport

1 hire gusket for $20
2 move drop off point to where some spoils we are
3 when gasket gets there load him up
4 fire him
5- choose option - drop items in b13
and that is it soon after those items are in you base
- you dont even have to pay the 20 bucks :devilglasses:

I thought if you keep firing someone they eventually won't let you hire them any more. Or is that just AIM mercs. If so, you could hire a whole slew of the MERC guys as item teleporters.

Hmmm. Kind of a cheat but it would relieve some of the tedium of hauling stuff around.

Yep. From the look of his stats, Gasket would make a fine human mule. He could help the team by carrying more ammo and other supplies. On the plus side, he helped me out as a cannon fodder or a decoy to lure the enemies away from my mercs' positions. :ok:

Zounds! I've never thought of that before!

I just tried that out in Dedrianna Lives, where my mercs already control the skies.

I hired Flo, airdroped her in, had her collect all those heavy guns and armors that I couldn't bother my main team to collect, and had her drop all that stuff off in B13 after dismissing her. Massive equipment transfer, little effort, next to no money expenditure.

I might just try that out on a large scale Wink

M.E.R.C people will be 'Unavailible' for a day or two. But I'm sure that they will eventually forgive you.

Now, I'll be able to hoarde items like never before!

Heh I already hoard items, but this is a much cheaper way to do it, seeing as you don't pay Skyrider/Goose/whatever for all that flying around. My issue is that if you pile up too many items in one sector, it tends to pause for a very long time when you close a sector's inventory after viewing. Some code optimization would be nice. Until then though, this MERC business seems rather lucrative Wink

"Way way WAY back in the olden days, when I thought that C-7's and LAWS were the only weapons I were ever supposed to use, and I grabed a new rifle off the shelf instead of repairing my old one, I've had sectors with 1200+ items, and no slowdown."

(Even with my dead 2001 Dell HP and laptop)

I really feel for ya, headrock. I never experienced that problem... But I'm sure that you, using your organization skills. Will find a way around it ^^

Well I mostly spread the items around sectors to minimize the effect. That is, making a separate sector for each kind of thing. But still, three pages of guns seems enough to stop the game for a second or two, and a sectorfull of ammo (upwards of 300 items) can cause a pause of 5 seconds. This is all of course considering that everything's stacked nicely and nothing that can't be merged hasn't been, to maximize efficiencly. If I don't do this, 500 items in a sector can freeze the game for 20 seconds or more. Had the same problem with all versions of JA2 I've played so far. And on two different computers, the current one being rather high-end.

But that ain't gonna stop me from hoarding! YIPEEEEEE.
