Did anyone compile a faq/walkthrough/tips&tricks document for UC?

There's tons of very useful data in the forum, but it's kinda hard to find the specific detail, and it would be nice to have it all handy when playing...

Yup!The ambasador replacing John Kulba sends you two of them instead of the automags. Many other weapons have similar specs to the minimis, but I think you'll find Mike's SA80(in-built 4X scope, laser, rod&spring) much more useful for a AW specialist.Or the silenced and scoped M16.By the way,if you don't go to "San Mona" on day one(meeting Mike there),you can still buy that beauty from a gun dealer(the one that gives you indications about transforming the Colt family weapons-can't remember his name, but he has the face of Rat)

Because of the density of Red Shirts and the close quarters combat in UC, autoweapons really comes in handy.

As for tips & tricks there is a sector by sector tips and tricks that's stickied to the top of this section. Also, searching through this section, you'll find a lot of useful advice and spoilers.

Yes, I know. But my online time is quite limited, and my connection slow, so it's not really practical for me to connect every time I have a problem. So I hoped somebody has gone through the effort of collecting all the info and sorting it out...

It's not too important, it would just make things easier. And I'd do it myself, but I'm nowehere near experienced enough in the game to do a good job. Nor am I a good writer.

In case you haven't started yet:now you have the chance to try a psycho auto weapons expert:MORGAN(he replaces Bubba),so it's no use to make your IMP char AW-ex.
Good luck!

Here are some tips for you that i always use,
always use best weapons available
take care of your weapons, clean them as much as possible(repair)
make a plan for the sector to be fought over then execute as best as possible
keep in mind cover can mean the difference between life and death
watch your mercs ap to figure out what they do best at given time
and not to forget shoot to kill those red grey blue and white shirts :ok:

I'd disagree, since on some occasions it is better to use a common-ammo or silenced weapon or more quick-firing weapon rather than your main, more expensive gun. Conserving resources or APs is quite important as well.

(and somehow common-ammo, silenced and quick-firing suits Varjag a lot eh?)

OK, so you want some quickie tips for the mercenary with the clock ticking ...

*no need to hire more than a few mercs, IMP included, as there are 2 NPC's in Atremo and 1 in Calisto who are willing to hire on.
(Rosebud = A9, Rudedog = B10, Tex = Calisto)

*you will have very limited starting equipment, few or no weapons.
Don't worry, you'll quickly acquire more than enough firepower.

*suggest A9 => A9 subway => A10 => B10 => B9, then rest up.
[alternately: A9 => A9 subway => B9 => B10 => A10]
You'll probably need to recover after a couple of sectors, but try & wipe out the police in A10 before you do.

*after cleaning up Atremo, make your way overland to Calisto.
There is a bug if you take a different income sector first (you won't get any money).
It doesn't matter where you go or what happens afterwards, but you need to talk to the Calisto "head miner" to trigger the income production.
You'll want to go to Calisto a.s.a.p. anyway, so you can buy stuff from Bobby Ray's.
Don't aggravate Claudia (one of the sectors south of Calisto) or Tony the arms dealer will turn hostile.

*save often & in different savegame slots, due to various bugs!

sector A9 (starting sector/airport):

*run to the claims manager & hand him the red ticket.
You can then collect a Makarov, ammo & other minor goodies.
(If you need to access this area after a few days, blow a hole in the wall with explosives)

*recruit Rosebud.
Don't worry if he won't hire on - try again after all the enemy are dead.

*don't attack the rebel militia (in green), or they will join the enemy (red) & go gunning for you!

*let the militia do most of the fighting, follow them closely & collect weapons from the casualties. Steal (CTRL-click) as the opportunity arises.
You should get 2-3 handguns from fallen enemy/militia, more if you steal.
Don't worry if the rebels are getting their butts kicked - it's to your own advantage.

*talk to Carmen (eastern building), he will give you a quest.
You can bash him for his PPSh + $5000, this actually has few repercussions.

*save your game, & go down the stairs ...
(don't go down whilst the battle is in progress, the game will crash)

A9 subway:

*there is a subway gang here, but none of them have firearms.
The easy way to win is to climb the "subway roofs" - but really no need, unless you got shot up earlier.

*after the melee, you can find a sawn-off in a locker.
There is also a CAR-15 in a "hidden room" in the upper right area of the map.
You will really need this!

*finished shootin' & lootin' - then go back upstairs.
Don't take the train until you are better armed - there is an ambush at each station.
(after this, the subway gangs will greet you with grenades & automatic gunfire)

*go to sector A10 (to the right). Go back up the stairs you came down first.
If you travel via the eastern subway stairs, you won't get to choose your team's entry positions.

sector A10:

*rooftops make excellent vantage points ...

*don't aggravate the police (in blue) - yet.
Just shoot the red/yellow guys.
(risky experiment - try using the police as "human shields"!)

*there's some good stuff in the police HQ (left side of the sector).
You'll find an Agram SMG + a Saiga shotgun - but don't let the cops see you touching them!
Close the door so you can pick them up without anyone noticing.
(it's difficult to steal the silencer in the next building though)

*after killing the red/yellow shirts - patch up, reload, move to ambush positions. Now you can take on the boys in blue!

*the cops will turn hostile after it turns dark - so shoot them before they fire the 1st shot!
On the first day, they will be peaceful (and sitting ducks - for the first combat round).
Some of your mercs (those with a conscience) won't fire on them - until they turn hostile.

*now go to either sector B10 (where you'll find Rudedog & a PPSh) or B9 (assorted handguns + gear),
you can handle it on your own from now on ...

=>keep in mind that this guide is for the impatient, with UC unmodified.
For my own version of UC, I've edited ProEdit & WeaponEdit rigourously, and even fiddled with the bio's & speech files, to make it a bit more challenging - similar to Dr Quack's mod - almost every merc & weapon has some minor change. I've dealt with as many bugs as I can, eg the Claudia bug. Carmen cannot be attacked with impunity (the stuff he drops, so early in the game, is imbalancing). I've enabled Elhi (+ replaced her missing speech). A richer game in all. But to do all this will require patience - and a thorough research of this forum.

@ idkfa Thanks for the tips. Amazingly enough I already decided to do most of that. Im not sure what city I was headed, but it was the one on the right, I think it was Calista.

I see ive made a typo in my last post. I was not planning on making an expert char. I did that once with nightops, but he was overpowered. No fun in that. I prefer to make him a bit more versatile. Now he is a NO + Autoweapens psycho. ^_^ Only downside so far is that he eats up ammo and the agram's status drops like a rock.

There are a lot of enemies in this mod. ^_^ So far i havent had a sector without an enemy encounter.

One more great tip - you can steal from cops, but after you steal press "C" it will open Map. After you close map police will be calm! I stole even silencer in front of them like that. Smile I think u can steal the same way.
But! For some reason if you walk around police after some time they will open fire on you.

Smile
