Has anyone had a similar issue with Mendax?

Best save your game before you move Maria and your mercenaries to Angel's leather shop to finish the quest.

Best regards; Schein...

I did - which is why I was able to have several attempts at the quest. But I've moved on now and overwritten the save. I'll have another go next time I visit San Mona and let you know how I get on.

So - am loving the mod but having a couple of problems (I've been away from JA2 for a long time, so some of this stuff may be old news to others - apologies if so).

Minor issue - Morris is now one of the 'Most Wanted'. Encountered him in that Salinas sector where the captured militia are being executed and he was immediately hostile. Killed him and cut off his head. Got a 'generic' head. Happened to revisit the same sector a day or so later and there was a second generic head just lying around. Picked it up. Carmen doesn't want either head when I try to give it to him. Is this right or was I supposed to do something else with Morris?

Bigger issue - tanks. I had not realised the enemy had tanks which can move? After taking Alma and training militia I had a squad explore the areas south of Alma. Encountered a few enemies, won the battles and returned to Alma with dropped guns so I could sell to Tony. A day or two later there is an enemy force detected in one of those same southern sectors I had previously explored/cleared. I go to investigate and discover they have also got two tanks!!

Is this supposed to happen? It is a real pain because I am only surviving financially by selling stuff to Tony. If tanks can move into areas where they are not initially encountered it means that a) I am going to have to spend cash I haven't got on LAWS just so I can get to Tony to sell stuff - and I am going to have to make sure Grizzly (my only heavy weapons guy) is always along for the ride....

Following from that, it was clear that tanks I met were on their way to help re-take Alma. Are they able to enter these town sectors? If so, will the militia I have trained be equipped with LAWS - or will I need to babysit them?

Questions -

1. Even though I was able to clear Salinas, I didn't train militia there. This was partly because I never managed to get loyalty up to a level where I could. But now I have realised that Pacos is where I expect him to be - just at a different time. So completing that quest should allow me to get loyalty up, yes?

2. If the Hale and Burton guys are the equivalent of the Hicks, then going and wiping them out in that sector NW of Salinas will also raise loyalty? I have already visited and met Babyface - will taking on the Hale and Burton guys make him hostile? (I know some have said he is the best recruitable NPC in the game, but I do not care - at $2k per day I am happy to toast his arse).

3. What is with the Indian(?) guy in the Salinas farm sector who has to clear out the cowshed? Is there a quest here? I gave him a shovel but that wasn't what he wanted.....

4. I don't see how I am going to move on to take other towns without first re-taking Salinas and training up militia. It's a long, long way around otherwise and visits to San Mona for the Kingpin fights/to sell to Tony are already longer/using up more petrol than I would like because I cannot drive through Salinas now that the enemy have re-taken it (and yes, I am using Cobra as the driver to keep petrol use down). But as there is no mine in Salinas I don't see how I am going to be able to afford it either. Any suggestions?

5. Related to the tank issue above...I have never bothered with mobile militia, so am not sure of the mechanics. If I train them, are they actually mobile (i.e. they wander around map sections I have visited at random) or can I park them at strategic road intersections to keep these clear of tanks?

Thanks for any help.

ETA - and another thing, just out of curiosity....

I am sure I am not imagining this - was something done with the chance-to-hit mechanics to make elites have better evasion? Asking because I am finding that mercs with high (85+) and really high (95+) marksmanship suddenly cannot hit a barn door when shooting at an elite. This is true even where they have a clear shot at normal ranges and with unchanged weapons (i.e. the same weapon they usually use and where they usually hit).

Glad you are enjoying it, Past caring,

I'll have to be brief as I'm short of time so will comment on what I can for now.

Morris - That sounds like a bug, one I thought had been fixed, so will have to look into it. You should have got a Morris head afterward.

Tanks are more prevalent in Vengeance, though not sure they were set up to respawn. You may find things easier if you can get MLRS support and there are a some heavy weapons cache's around. I'd certainly be keeping Grizzly on your team after taking a few of the early sectors.

1. Salinas is particularly hard to gain loyalty as it's linked with a few quests. I've still yet to experiment further to see if this needs changing.
2. Though Hale & Burton use the Hicks slot they should be considered differently, they are generally better equipped. You can talk to Babyface for more info regarding loyalty, I believe he looks out for his own interests but can't remember exactly how he reacts to factions, most RPC's tend to have their own unique faction so you can at least talk to them in a fight.
3. Rajeev is linked to a quest, you won't know more about it until you speak to another NPC in another town. Rajeev's quest is also one that affects town loyalty in Salinas.
4. I'm in similar situation in my playthrough, and just avoiding Salinas after a few hit and run exercises and med supply raids but that is also because I've avoided a lot of quests too for now. At least some of the town boundaries have expanded which makes travel quicker to some degree, though I am also noting Salinas is a big strategic obstacle as it stands right now.
5. Do a search for mobile militia elsewhere on the forum, as far as I know Vengeance hasn't changed this behaviour from 7609.

5. Set manual militia restrictions - green means can move, yellow means can move in but not move out, red means cannot enter.

There's no difference if you shoot at regular or elite. If you have a clear los to enemy and he is not moving, you can hit with a good CTH (if you have decent weapon and marksmanship).

I have the GPS decoder and the co-ordinates disk - not tried using them yet, but I imagined that the MRLS was single use?

It's a long time since I investigated, but you should get fire support in a number of maps.

A bug it was, it has since been fixed in revision 2047 but I need to get a new Vengenace.exe uploaded. I'm hoping we can get a new SCI out again by the end of the year, but it is always a busy time to co-ordinate.

Another question; I recruited Sandman and Joey. After taking Drassen I left them to work in the mine to improve their strength - and forgot about them (they are still some way off being useful). Anyway, on checking this morning Sandman has managed to 'acquire' a $10,000 silver nugget. thumbs up suprised I know he has the thief trait, but still.....is this working as intended or something wierd?

He probably didn't find a single 10.000$ nugget but several smaller ones which can be combined into a larger one. You can also walk around in a mine and collect them manually. This is no different from default JA2 1.13. I believe the max value of such nugget is 10.000$.

I played JA2 when it came out - and many of the mods since, so I'm aware of exploring the mines and finding the silver nuggets. I'd explored the Drassen mine when I took the town on day 2. I'm now on day 21 and moving from Citzena/Oronegro to attack Salinas...

Sandman wasn't recruited until day 8 and I've just left him working in the mine to bring his poor strength up. He definitely didn't have any $10,000 nugget when he started and I'd cleared the mine out. Never seen this before, not that I'm complaining. big grin

Sandman has a Professional Thief background (<scrounging> tag) so he randomly steals some hidden valuable items from sector. Local people may not be happy of that though.
