Please everybody who has contributed to the project in a meaningfull manner (e.g. mapping, voice acting, coding 1.13...) put down your names in this very thread still this year if you're interested in testing the first pre-beta version. I think i prefer this internal pre-beta over a demo version Wink

when the pre-beta is in an acceptable state, you'll be notified

that way you'll have a (hopefully) reward for your help and support and can revise your own contributions and the way i'm using them before going public

this will be an unfinished business... err... mod and thus not released to the public. It will lack features that a later full release will include. The team will however be able to gain an overview of what is done and will have all materials do do the finishing touches (lol as if we were that far)

organisation/ coordination details may later be adressed in this thread as well. currently, the intention is to provide existing material (at a certain point) to the team, revise the work that has been done, find and define to-do lists, build a coordinated testing base
so first of all, let's see who's here and interested (amongst the privileged). Note that the "official deadline" is "this year", but that doesn't in any way say anything about the actual point in time i'll be able to provide the pre-beta

You have the name, although it will not be written in this thread. Smile Take your time with that 'pre-beta' please, most modmakers seem to suffer an "I-can't-bear-anymore" syndrome, after working at something this size for as much time as you have.
Besides,I'm currently working on a S-E part of the current map add-on (16 maps) myself, with lots of mountains and cliffs, rivers and forrests, so I really don't know if my computer could stand another JA2 installation.Got a freshly updated 1.13, a 1.07 with the old editor and UB on it, on different partitions.
And I really want to give this RR test&polishing operation the attention and consideration it deserves.

consider the pre-beta files you'll get the means to use the tilesets and the existing maps as you've asked for that previously

off course nobody needs to put down prename and date of birth in the thread in case that my posting was unclear Wink

i've been stating in another thread that time is running out for me. The more eyes that look onto the existing features, the higher a chance that bugs are found and also more approaches for problems to be solved.
it's not only the "i-can't-bear-it-anymore" it's also the "i-don't-have-time-for-that-crap" now.

the better the quality control before the release, the less we'll need to add patches afterwards. I'm hoping to not have to provide extended support after the release.

Well, I'm not a coder of v1.13, only the weapon master, but I'd like to test your work (honestly, it gets somewhat boring running around the old maps, waiting for BR to stock the newly added guns, and then find a sector with enemies to test them on [which means I restart the game a lot]) Wink
Hmmm, stopping the Drassen assault during a thunderstorm with the new .45 WM guns was fun, though Smile

thx guys, just maybe it's too early for enthusiasm. i was made aware that there's lots of work still to be done - for me! nothing that can be outsourced (easily)

i'll for sure drop a couple of notes about testing once i'm ready. I'm not that fast currently, and testing shows that sooner or later, there will have to be some quality adjustments. i will then ask for troubleshooters, helpers, wizards, etc. who can help me Wink

in case anybody noticed there's a private forum for the pre-beta testing

it still needs to be activated. people will be activated for this forum upon showing signs of testing the early mod version to which i provided a link.

my posting regarding the private forum was aimed at those people that i sent a message and a link...
... it seems apart from 2 people, the rest has not yet dropped me any feedback if they've ever received my message.

the idea would be that they confirm that they revieved message + link, download the early version, install, tell me that they've done so and play the mod.
then they'd be added to a list of people to get access to the private forum, where any bug reports and such can be posted

but i won't do this with only 2-3 people so far. too much hassle for too little gain. will test by myself until i hear from these people.

btw Toan you recorded NPC speeches?

well scorpion, although i havent earnt my merits through contributing greatly to this project yet, i would nonetheless volunteer for betatesting, if the others are letting you stand alone in the cold rain.

in fact, i just cannot stand the arulco maps and scenario anymore. it makes me sick. i just wanna turn this pesky little coutry into an atomic wasteland with everything that dwells in it!

i can guarantee you to be a good betatester, since i have the ability (or curse) to find almost every bug and fault in any game.
if there

i think it's not that they let me stand alone

i might have chosen the wrong way to communicate the effectvie start of early version testing at the wrong time.

so i'm posting more direct messages here, once people read this, they'll either find my message in their inbox or they can drop me a line that they didn't get the message at all (there can be plenty of reasons)
plus many people are of course on holydays and read such spam like a mass email from a rogue country like switzerland (including a link!) only on their workplaces Wink

i will have to improve my coordination work and my communication for the next attempt to get the testing rolling. by then i'm improving the mod and waiting for answers as well as contributions.

once they see the disaster, they might offer to step in and help me fix up all the crap i've done Wink

it was a bit of a promise from me that contributors would be able to have a look at their contributions before we make the mod availabale to a bigger audience. i would want to hold my word, there's already enough doubtful aspects of my character right now Wink)

hi scorpio
i got your post with the link to the mod today, a few minutes ago.

but i certainly got no mod or message from you about that before (i mean a message with a link etc.)

so, i think, maybe you should post again to everbody, who did not answer to you yet, just in case. i do not believe, that so many people would not respond to something, they had a part in.

i will certainly check it and report back to you.
regards and keep up the good work.

I do not know how many ladies are interested in JA2 now, but back in 1999 in the German forum that the publisher Topware had, there were at least five, I even remember the nicknames of three of them.

The German forum that exists today has only one lady, IIRC.

So it's not /strictly/ a boys' club, but the girls are just not interested... Wink
