Hi, I'm using the 0.0.0.36 assembly version of XML editor and every time I tell it to load any sort of item list (guns, ammo, armor) it give me the following:

If anyone can tell me what I should do that'd be great. I've uninstalled and deleted all the data files, then reinstalled twice now. I don't know whats wrong.

p.s. If this has been brought up before I am truly sorry, I had looked in the search and lightly over some threads and saw nothing that seemed similar. thanks in advance.

Edit: after several attempts at solving the problem by reinstalling, I've fixed this. took 4 uninstalls and reinstall but its fixed.

Did you modifiy your XML files? It seems that there is something wrong with your Items.xml file.

Get the latest version of the XML files (inside the TableData folder) + XML Editor and it should start fine.

EDIT: So do you know exactly what the problem was? Good that it works now.

I'm using XML Editor 0.41 and JA 1.13 2975 build.

I tried installing all .NET framework patches, deleting JA2Data.xsd, updating thru SVN, manually downloading XML Editor.exe and Pockets.xml. Before then I was using 2085 build (i don't know xml version though) it was running perfect.

Also German.Pockets.xml is missing three rows at the bottom. It ends at 19 while other pockets.xml files ends at 22.

I take it you got it from SVN then?

Make sure you exported it from the SVN download directory properly, as sometimes it can screw up!

Delete the backend.dll, then get it anew from the SVN-Server.
Later XML-Editor versions seem to somehow rely on a newer backend.dll, though the size of that file never seems to change...
I have the feeling that backend.dll is not properly updated by the SVN-system.

I'm getting that error with the latest 1158 SVN. I tried the Backend.dll challenge and the delete xsd options. Neither worked. Any ideas lads?

I'm getting same problem as Gambigobilla with my WF5 maps installation. However, it's possible to get XML Editor v0.42 working with SVN revision 1168 with these steps:

1) Install pristine copy of JA2 or use old working copy like version 687 (tested with 687).
2) Delete Data-1.13 folder from 687.
3) Checkout newest SVN version, export it and copy exported directory over installation.

It seems that old leftover Data-1.13 files crash XML editor.

Excuse me for posting it here since it's not exactly XML problem but I did not want to
open a new topic (by search option I haven't find any similar problem).
I've uninstalled/reinstalled JA2 from CD (to make a clear status quo), patched it up to
1.06 then had run the 1.13 installer. Everything seems OK, except that the prof.dat file
(in the data folder, not in data 1.13 folder) when opened by the proedit, does not show
the inventory items - better to say it shoes something what looks a barcode Smile vertical strips
instead of characters. Can anybody help, did I miss some patch?
And one more question: the hate/buddy settings could be changed or would it crash the game?
Thanks in advance

That's normal Raonna. Use the merc starting gear XML to edit the mercs equipment as the Prof.dat stuff isn't used any more in 1.13 Smile

Wow, thanks for the fast reply and help; does it mean the XML overwrites the prof.dat file,
which I have then to copy over the mode (eg. experienced)I'd like to play with? Or this
method overwrites each prof dats?

Clarification: prof.dat is still used to determine starting equipment for mercs/RPCs/NPCs if the old inventory is still used. If you use the New Inventory, then MercStartingGear.xml determines the starting gear of the above.
Starting gear of the player's IMP-merc is always determined by IMPItemChoices.xml.

INI Editor and XML Editor require the .NET-Framework 2.0 or greater. You can download them from Microsoft for free.

Download-Link (.NET-Framework 2.0) ~ 22 MBs

That's where I downloaded 1.13 from. Also, I'm using .Net 3.5 (or 3-something. I actually just reinstalled it, to see if anything had been corrupted. When I try to run the INI Editor, it says it failed to initialize and then crashes.

Do you think maybe I need to disable some aspect of CA Security Center to run it?

A foreign language description file (english descriptions are in items.xml)?
If yes, which one?

Everything on my PC is in English, if that's what you're asking.

On an unrelated note, I tried to create a female IMP and couldn't hear any of the voice options during the creation phase.

No, that's not what I meant. Basic 1.13 has foreign language support, so there are several additional description files which are all read by the XML-Editor, like German.Items.xml or Dutch.Items.xml, for example. If those are missing from your install, then the game will run fine in English, but the XML-Editor expects those files.

I was asking if it was one of those files that is read in when the problem occurs.

got it from ja2 1.13 wiki. version 2085, build 8.7.27. no SVN i guess, since i still don't get what that is all about. what exactly do you mean with single click installer? it was a winRAR package, actually two parts. extracted in ja2 folder, installed in ja2 folder...thats about it. i did it the same way about a year ago. but i remember having to download something to get the xml editor working properly.

Version 2085 is so old it's almost beginning to smell bad... Wink

With Single Click Installer I meant this -> http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/board/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=236228#Post236228

Kaerar does a good job in putting these packages together to provide people an easy installation option.
His exe version is 3356 just to give you an impression how old your 2085 is. The package includes the editors.

hi there!

yesterday I tried to push my mercs through Grumm. They've slaughtered the "rotten men" quite well...until i tried to enter one of the two very left sectors. when i do and want to go from tactical map view to normal map view, the game crashes and i suddenly watch the backrground of my desktop. in the game exceptions it says:

========== Tue Jul 13 21:23:16 2010 ==========
File : .\vfs_file_raii.cpp
Line : 12
Location : vfs::COpenReadFile::COpenReadFile

file "TableData\Map\H11_0_ExtraItems.xml_Experienced" does not exist

that "H11"-number changes everytime. Also sometimes it does not read the "experienced"-addition in the end, although that's the difficulty i set.

does anyone know, how to solve that problem???
please help

Did you re-install the NET-environment that the 1.13 XML-Editor needs?

My INI Editor fails to load, with the following message:

"There is an error in XML document (1,1)"

To be honest, I did edit the files:
INIEditorAPBPConstants.xml
INIEditorJA2.xml
INIEditorJA2Options.xml

using the little tool called XML Marker. Mostly, I erased Russian descriptions (they did not display properly under XML Marker, instead producing errors) and changed a few "datatype" fields from "numerical" to "numeric".

Could this be the reason?

EDIT: Nevermind, I tested that. Seems that saving those XMLs under XML Marker produces the error. Looks like it does not support UTF-16 encoding.
