I'd like to change the color pinkskin of avatars to more like a true skin color same skin-pink like the portraits would already do fine. The other skin colors tanskin, darkskin, and blackskin look all okay to me but this pinkskin is too rosy.
Is there any palette file to edit to correct this?

Thanks. Is there any tool/program to edit this *.dat file or is hex-editing in order?
I've already checked with my hexeditor and luckily it's easy to read.

Thanks so much!

Can you give me the download-link on senduit.com?
After upload, you're given a link to your file. If you have forgotten it, please upload again and better set the expire date to 1 week, so others can download as well for that time.

Will do!!

For some reason, it will not allow me to do this at all.
However, try the following site. It has this and more.
It is in Polish, with some English, but self-explanatory.
The file you want is about 1/3rd the way down and listed as 'Palette Editor'.

http://download.jaggedalliance.pl/files.php?cat=29

As I said before, if all else fails, I can e-mail it to you.

JA2PAL10.exe (559.996 Bytes)?

When I run it where the JA2PAL.DAT is, Windoze (XP) blahs about "invalid application". What's up? Do I also need install some other system files or doesn't it work on WinXP anymore?

Sorry. I cannot help any further. I have never had cause to use this (yet).
There may be another similar utility out there.
Hopefully, Scorpion will be able to add more to this topic.

I installed the palette editor in the main directory of one of my Ja2 installs and it worked fine.

I wonder, did you install it in it's own location like on your desktop or did you place it in with a Ja2 install?

I'm just guessing but a lot of the programs need Ja2 .dlls or other files to run correctly. This may be one of them. I think Toxic has a readme or something that explains this or perhaps you could try Lords of the Bytes if it still exists.

There is no installation routine, just this exe which seems to be corrupt. No readme.
Lords-of-the-Bytes site is more or less down. I've already rummaged the net for Toxic's editor but can't find it somewhere.

Here's another file-host which should work if someone would be so kind to upload his working version (rar-ed or zipped):

http://www.megaupload.com

Maybe it doesn't work on my machine but others can also download and work with it then. Most importantly would be to make it available again on running sites with JA2 stuff, like khelle.de.

Did you put it in your JA2 root directory like Khor said? And run it from there? Should be 2 files extracted, a .dat file and the .exe, put both in your root directory and run it.

Hadn't noticed that original-blackskin looks so dark purple. The new blondhead looks in the game better without the pixel-zoom. Eh, and sorry for the mess on the pictures.

If you can, why don't you zip up your changes and send them to lalien or Roman. If they work ok maybe they will add them into the official game. That is if it dosen't upset the other modders changes already.

P.S.: I'm currently testing other free & no-sign-up file-hosts for the future. I'm going to post alternative links of good hosts for my ColorMod here:

http://www.divshare.com/download/431738-703 (cookies needed, no code check)

http://ez-files.net/download.php?file=b2fcef1d6cfbe50dcb8aeb42c172401a (100MB, no code)

That's enough. I like http://www.rogepost.com most so far.

Yup, I've also screwed a lot with the colors until I finally got pinkskin the way it as moment. It's difficult to make a color gradient look nice from light to dark if the figures themselves only support so few colors.
You just don't have to look so close like on the pictures above then anything looks fine in the game.

There're too many values to write down but just use the tool and my file to look them up if you're interested.

Awesome, malboro. I'm actually downloading that mod as we speak.

Now that we're in the neighborhood of talking cosmetic-mods. Is it possible to eliminate the WHITE-BALL BULLET coming out of yer guns? Even replacing them with something, i dunno, realistic. Like a small dash like bullet, like this: - ?

I'll do it for the sake of realism, this bullet had always nagged me.

I am sure it could be done. I do believe it is in the animations section. I am unfortunatly not to familiar yet in doing animation stuff. I don't know if Scorpion has messed around with that yet. But I am sure it could be done, not sure what would be best though. Smile

Ah, great. Hope there's a workaround on that musketball.

Just dabbling on Renegade. I like what I see, wow, definitely interested on the final product! Right now I'm focused on 1.13. So is there a way to take the animations and starting items of Mercs into 1.13?

Just copy and paste the ani folder from renegade folder into a different folder where my 1.13 resides, right?

I am sure it will be more a pain to do than it's worth, for the bullett. I am not even 100% sure how you would go about it. Yet.

As for using Scorpions animations, not a clue. That may work as you suggested. I don't see why it wouldn't. But...you may want to ask Scorpion 1st.

ja2 renegade republic is 1.13 as well. So the content is interchangeable if interchanged correctly

animations is easy, you copy-paste the anims/M_merc folder over to 1.13 (data-1.13/anims folder) if you want to play 1.13 with RR animations. However, in vanilla 1.13 you'll get this animations for guys like Scully or others that might not make much sense with that bodytype.

starting Items from RR. Carrying those to 1.13 is, on the other hand, more complicated. In fact, this can hardly be done without glitches, unless you copy almost anything from RR. It's much easier to just play RR from its folder rather than additionally cut-pasting contents to the 1.13 folder.

this is apart from animations, where it really isn't a problem.

the bullet animation, is, as far as i know, coded and not an animation. it's a pixel moving on a vector or such from shooting character to shot-at-character.
being able to make cosmetic changes there would be interesting, especially for laser-rifle Sci-fi mods and such.

this is as opposed to the rocket rifle vapour trail, that would be an external animation

That would be beyond badass if there's a way to change the bullet-pixel animation, especially replacing it with proper tracers and -- lasers, etc. Awesome.

Regarding the starting items, I'm getting odd artificats/bugs. But overall it seemed to have worked out fine, copying Binary stuff from Renegade mod into 1.13.

THanks for the answers Malboro and Scorpion.
