I just finished defending Drassen and it was quite easy for me, maybe because I am playing on expert difficulty and I had about 60 regular militia ready for action. I just placed my mercs on the roof of the most southern building to be able to attack enemies as soon as they arrived, and once all the enemies from my side of the map were pulverized, I sent the mercs to help the militia. I had no casualties on the civilian side, or any of the mercs.

BTW, is there a way to apply first aid to dying militia? I would have loved to save a few.

Any dying character can be saved. Dead people are dead.

I just tried to heal a militia but instead of the symbol of applying first aid showing up, I got the lips, like I wanted to talk to the poor dying militia. I will try again in a future battle, for now Drassen is safe.

If you point at the militia, game will choose default action (talking). You hafe to "force" first aid by right clicking (your crosshair will change to red cross) and then click on militia you want to save.

I thought I tried that, but maybe I didn't. Thanks for the info. Next time I will save the hero militia men (or women)!

Yes, it definitly works that way. Just place the 1st aid kit into the merc's main hand and right click on the militia when you are close enough to have bandaging starting with the APs the merc has left this turn (otherwise you first have to approach it). A good way to boost medical too, provided you have more than enough 1st aid kits.

It only works with dying militias because others will simply walk away during their turn.

I often shoot them for cowardice - Meltdown is great with this.
(oc I tweaked the ini to get the loot and no problems)

Has the attack been toned down in the latest release or was I just lucky?

Settings: experienced, BR = great, tons of guns, enemies drop all items, enemy items progression = very fast. Also upped my starting cash to allow me to hire Gus, Shadow, Scully, Lynx, Raider and Raven for one day to give access to better weapons.

Only Lynx remained (kept on with medical cover refunds) by the time of the counter-attack (day 2) so team was him, 2 x IMPs, Ira, Barry, Igor, Buns, Meltdown, Blood, Bull and Grizzly. Felt like only maybe 60-70 bad guys in the counter*, though 2/3rds were elites. Most mercs were on central rooftops, with Grizzly and Igor hiding in the toilets and Blood and Ira in the bar. And had a total of only about 15 green militia trained up over all sections.

Only merc to take a hit was Bull - Grizzly, Igor and Blood had to come out of hiding to get amongst the action. Felt quite easy and I remember finding it much harder in previous versions....

[*Merc histories show Meltdown as top killer with 13 - Bull, Grizzly, Ira and Barry have between 0 -2 each. These figures include all bad guys killed from beginning of the game, so unless the figures themselves are inaccurate, my estimate of 60 - 70 in the counter seems about right.]

Mouserover the "Battles" entry of each merc will tell how many bad guys the biggest battle of them had (I don't think you had to fight something bigger than the DCA so far in your campaign).

Thanks - will check it out when I'm home tonight (am posting from work atm).

By the way, one of the things I love in this latest release (it may have been in earlier 1.13s but I didn't see it) is the new speech bubbles for the bad guys...."We are not getting paid enough for this shit" when the battle started going tits-up for them had me laughing.

I just ran into the first wave of the DCA in my 2011 release playthrough. I play without reinforcements, but with up to 64 enemies on the map and up to 100 enemies per sector. This has the effect of the DCA arriving in waves (since they do not reinforce each other). Shank died in wave 1 (I sneaked around Arulco collecting the natives for my army before attacking Drassen) when an elite fed him a six round burst from some automatic weapon. First casualty of the war so far and I don't think I have someone without a wound after this fight.

Playing with double the weapon damage and double the weapon range can be quite nasty.
