Problem is: i went to Tixa, killed everyone, found the key, talked to Dynamo friendly 3 times, he said that he preferes to stick with his wife.
I tought it was enough anyway, and i left tixa for alma.

Tixa got occupied again, and i went back to it - Dynamo is still there.
Talked to him with merc Rider (90 leadership), friendly, he talks to me, but still doesn't want to join. "Ain't got time" he says at the end.

I tried to let some time pass in the strategic map, and then go back, sometimes he talks again, but he never joins. Shank did first try, really can't understand how's possble.

What do i do?

help please.

Thanks!!!

Hmmm, usually if you talk to him with a high teach merc he will join right up. I have not ever had this happen. And I am not sure if you fail on your 1st attempt to recruit him that, that is it. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this.

Basically, when i cleared Alma before going to Tixa, the loyalty wouldn't go up more then 15%, blocking me from training militia there.

So basically i think this "Free Dinamo" thing the most important thing to do before take Alma back (while in Tixa it was reoccupied, damnit Sad ), am i wrong?

I tried to kill Dynamo, seems that it records it in the History book: "You killed Dynamo" is the first entry, then "Dynamo is not a prisoner anymore" is the second, and then you're able to boost loyalty in Alma.
But are there consequences? Killing him seems not an option, as i managed to do it throwing a grenade nearby.

Dynamo's brother Matt, is the head miner in Alma. So killing Dynamo is not a good thing to do. If you do kill him Alma's loyalty I believe will be hard to raise. Not sure though. You should be able to recruit him fairly easily, I really don't know why you can't.

I always clear Tixa before going to Alma, so I'm sure you don't have to do Alma first (although maybe low loyalty in Alma is worse than no loyalty there - I don't know).

Have you killed civilians anywhere in Arulco? If you do that, it seems that word gets around, and some mercs won't join you.

Have you tried recruiting Dynamo with another merc? Try all that you have. And make sure you use the Recruit dialogue option; he won't just offer to join during conversation.

My schedule was: Clear Alma - Clear Tixa - Lost Alma - Lost Tixa - Clear Tixa - Clear Alma - Lost Tixa.

No i never killed civilians, yes i tried to recruit him with everyone, and with the recruit button. Always says no. Incredible.

Anyway, my second time in Alma my loyalty went up to 20% and i trained militia. Now Loyalty is 44% and Alma is fully cleared, so i'm going again there in Tixa to see if this changes things.

btw, THANKS everyone for the answers!

If there is was a problem recruiting it was i didnt speak and listen to his story. I speak to him and he tells me about his story. And then he was happy to join. @ otco you don't have liberate Tixa at all its a side quest. For fun I like freeing Dynamo without alerting guards break in and get him out.

Once Dynamo agrees to join your team, he'll ask for $50 a day to work for you, refuse his offer and then use recruit option again and he'll join for free Smile

About Matt's quest, there's no need to bring Dynamo to Alma mine to complete the quest, simply free Dynamo and the loyalty in Alma will raise.

Don't think so........ :nono:

Brought Dynamo to Alma, talked with Matt,Alma's loyalty raised. After that, talked with Matt using Dynamo,Alma's loyalty raised even more.

"So,you've joined up,huh?" - Matt
"I have a score to settle." - Dynamo

I too had difficulties to recruit Dynamo recently: he tells his story and all but, when asked to join, he answers that he prefers to stay with his wife. Then his only answer becomes "I ain't got time".

I did:
Move 10 squares away from him and wait the next hour (the time seems to be necessary, maybe the move is not).
Talk "direct". He answers "I ain't got time" and ends the conversation.
Talk "recruit". He agrees to join !

It doesn't work if I talk him friendly instead of direct when he "ain't got time". And I don't believe it works if I skip the "direct" talk before the "recruit", don't remember well.

I had no town liberated, hadn't even met the rebels and my only mercs were Maddog, Razor and my character. Razor and Maddog both failed to recruit Dynamo this way, probably because of their low leadership. Only my character (ldr 35) could do it (failed once too though).

yeah dynamo's script sometimes is a bit unreliable.

i have seen many occurences when it... uhhh... failed, kind of.

it features some not really so very necessary triggers which might be the reason that sometimes even high leadership merc can't recruit him, even if first aid was given and his story was told

that does in fact matter, as there's a trigger "dynamo got to tell his story" or somesuch. Having this trigger set to true will easen the recruitment, but it seems that in many cases it's still not enough.

i guess i may have overlooked something.

His story is in two parts & he won't join up until he has said all of the second part. I use a high ldrshp DIRECT approach & I've never had him not join up.

I too had difficulties to recruit Dynamo recently

I forgot to say that when I met him after the battle, he asked for first aid but the game printed something like "Dynamo doesn't require first aid but rather rest ..." on the screen (the sentence that you see when you try to heal a wounded militian after a battle) when I tried to heal him. He didn't want either a 1st aid kit or a medikit but, when given money, he said that he needed a doctor.

Recruiting him had always been straightforward for me and I don't remember if I really have to heal him or not. It may be a bug that he (or rather the game) rejected first aid.

No,it's not a bug pal. He doesn't have an open wound(yellow color on the health bar) but rather a patched wound.

Still,he needs to rest or better, receive a medical treatment via Med-Kit at the strategical view.

Not 1st Aid by the tactical view. But you don't need to treat him to be able to recruit him.

first aid yes, but not heal in the sense of doctoring

also, healing the town milita goes fastest by loading a different sector and then loading the sector again where your milita guy is supposedly dying

he'd be at full health again ;-D

I asked Dynamo to join me after he mentioned that his kid was murdered by deidranna's men.

That seemed to me like the most opportune time to get him to join me.

However. I'm not concerned with that. What I want to know, is how you recruit the other two guys in Tixa.

Recruiting Shank should be straightforward enough - I usually just talk to him, let him vent about how his parents ratted him out over his hash stash, then hit 'recruit'. Not that I consider him worth much beyond getting me access to Jake's black-market petrol. :wrysmiley:

AFAIK, the other guy in Tixa (Gordon, IIRC?) is just there to ramble on about the crepitus - he's an informant, not a recruitable character. Wink

Yup. Only Dynamo and Shank are recruitable. Dynamo is marginally useful and Shank, well, isn't. He is just too weak and otherwise terrible.

Heh. One time I completely loaded him down with stuff and he was at like 350% weight. He'd tire out after moving one sector. I moved him all the way to San Mona and he gained 11 strength on the way!

Shank is ok with throwing knives... can take out a redshirt or two if you train him before, so he doesn't fall over every three steps with normal equipment.

At the time everyone could be a sniper killer you gave him the steyr scout and some bullets(not too much), like this was not overweighted and had some combat utility. Now only for gasoil.

Dynamo to the contrary is a real skilled mercenary that is worth much more than the 20 bucks/day you give him, this, obviously, considering you have still the dignity of paying him something.

Oh well, he's "only human"!
Allow me to translate:

-you may have everything to give him,
-you may use anything as bate for him,
-you may even be the best commander ever...

you...can only "win" him on your side with some little thing(s) like looking good enough and listening to him.
(such a "little" thing pal, such a little thing, when you forget it...it becomes BIG)

Then, once he's made up his mind to join, he's not going to change it for some money, even if the 50 was too low already: he needed 70/day when he asked. But maaan, what's a decent life anyway?

Script is as good as a script can be for translating that into the game. Again!

And BTW, I wouldn't even be surprised if he knew you were a bad-bad boy during the game and tell you something like:
-"Bad karma for you today; I'm not feeling like being recruited this time around".
Muhahahaha! :secret:

And then, as if it wasn't enough, with Shank there's another thing: you pay him to quit on those plants;
as a matter of fact, you also pay him to quit on those walls around him.
Shank wants to quit and he's no longer addicted because of the prison. But he also wants some money.
He might quit if you pay him enough. He might not.
He might quit anyway, recruited or not.
You just have to pay enough...in your own and personal patience.
Or you won't get the something to burn exactly from where you will eventually feel you need it.

Talk friendly until he tells both parts of his story, then keep talking friendly until he says either "I ain't got time" or "I might be able to help you". Use your IMP if at all possible, it makes a difference.

Have Dynamo recruit Shank, and Shank won't even ask for money!

For me, mgl's approach always works: talk to him a bit ("friendly"), "direct" then "recruit".

Always quicksave beforehand though, sometimes it's random I guess. Just reload, and try again.

I can verify what Blue_Fox says as I just did it. Have someone with good leadership talk to him and get his whole story including about his brother and all. Then recruit him and when it asks "Recruit Dynamo for $50/day" he'll join for free. I'm going to have him try to recruit Shank and see what happens.

--update--

Shank wouldn't talk much to Dynamo, probably because Dynamo's leadership is too low. "I need time alone" is about all he'd say. When another merc talked to him he spilled his whole story. Then I switched to Dynamo and "I need time alone" when Dynamo tried to recruit him. So I switched back to the other merc and he could recruit Shank, albeit at the normal $20.

--update--

Heh. I had Shank totallyu load up with gear until he was at 621%. It took him almost a day to march to the next sector BUT he gained 15 strength and two levels! Smile

Haha, I always do the same thing when I hire Shank. I give him a week of some really intense boot camp Smile

One thing to keep in mind though, have him travel ALONE. In my current game I made the mistake of sending along my primary squad. As you said, Shank 750% overcumbered will take about a day, and drag the rest of the team down, resulting in everyone taking just as long to arrive in the next sector and ending up with about 5% energy.

Then again, it was probably a good thing I sent along my other guys, because they got ambushed by about 15 enemies.... this really was one of the most difficult battles I played, because my guys ended up in the middle of the sector exhausted and surrounded. It was mostly luck I survived that one, because everytime someone would get hit even once, they'd pass out (their energy would end up at 0) for a bunch of turns.

It's funny, I never would've guessed Shank would actually USE any of those 3 loaded mortars he was dragging along Very Happy

I'm trying to recruit dynamo. I already freed Alma and talked with his brother.

I have mercs with high leadership (77+), and to no avail. "Go away..." is what I'm getting.
Do I need to be friendly first? Cause I got two reactions mostly:

"Who are you people?"
"Why are you doing this."

I'm guessing the first one is the better one? And what after that? Do I have to be direct or friendly again? Cause I'm getting "Go away..." after that. Can I try again? What do I have to do? He doesn't tell me his story. He doesn't tell me anything.
It's annoying. Can't I just say: "Your brother send us." or something?
