I've discovered this playing Urban Chaos, but I think it works for JA2.

If you've made a bonehead mistake (like accidently killing a civilian) the morale of your mercs can slip below "stable" and they start complaining and performing poorly and may non-renew at contract renewal time. Also, if you go to hire some of the better mercs, they may tell you that you have too bad a reputation and won't work for you.

I've just discovered that you can get around this situation by having your poor moral mercs drink alcohol or beer. Alcohol and beer cause moral to rise to "stable" at first, and then plumet to "panic." If you then let them sleep it off for a day, the next day their moral stays at "stable."

Playing UC, I discovered that curing my mercs of poor moral also cured my reputation with the better mercs. I was able to hire them again. I haven't tried it yet, but I believe this will also work when moral and your reputation are lowered due to more than one merc being killed in action. This tactic may allow you to continue playing with good mercs even if you get more than one killed.

Also, a merc who will not renew due morale below "stable" can be given alcohol to temporarily raise his morale so that he or she will renew.

I just had another thought. A visit to the Shady Lady might also fix moral. Wink
