don't know. maybe fmod.dll was updated or something? you may try an older fmod.dll that works.

maybe try this fmod.dll (right-clikc, save target as...)

http://www.freewebs.com/ja2vengeance/fmod.dll

it must be in the same folder where RR beta17 is.

if that doesn't help, it might be an installation problem
have you ever had a working installation of RR before?

the data must be so:

ja2 folder/ here is ja2.exe, rr beta 17 exe, fmod.dll, such stuff
data folder/ data-1.13 folder/ data-renegade folder

hope this helps. I don't think these dll files are updated often, so it's probably some sort of installation issue.

why maps the same as ja2 ? airport has different name ,usual layout , and drassen is same, also why do I have lbe gear and backpack in inventory , can't seem to use em ,stopped at drassen mine , no saves am I supposed to see same map overview or have I done something wrong , ( what ? )

( d/loaded kaerars 1 click 1.13 c/w niv and svn , could this be problem ?)Frustratingly almost there it seems . Bugger :hmm:
EDIT : when starting b17 exe , same message for missing dll , so moved exe out of rr folder to
ja2 folder tried again and it started , with 1st edit results . so ........?

if you have the same maps as ja2, your install is somehow wrong.

so you have a full install of ja2 1.13 mod.

now you just do the following: you extract the content of the archive of rr, and later also the patches and additions, to the place where ja2.exe is located
extract all files at once, don't create any additional folders, allow overwriting (ja2.ini i think it is)

important: first 1.13, then RR.

check if the rr beta17 exe is where all the exe's are (ja2.exe, xml editor exe, whatever you have)

check that ja2.ini points to "data-renegade"

check that you have three folders at the same level, one is called "data" the other one is called "data-1.13" the third and most important one is called "data-renegade"

your attempt in the first edit was the better one, i think you only had ja2.ini wrong in the first edit, in the second edit it reads more like having the exe in the wong place.

You are starting the game by double clicking the b17 exe are you not? And you are clicking save after changing the ini setting to renegade? If you don't save it, it reverts back to the default.

this is hard to figure from a distance
it reads as if you have done everything. But apparently we're missing something.

ja2.ini must point to the new folder. their names must match

"data-renegade"

is this what you refer to as the "rr folder" ?

if these match then it can't go to 1.13...

*edit*

yeah, true, make sure any writing protection or stuff is off ja2.ini, saving is of course required as well.

if you start the game, there would be an RR intro.

the RR beta never sais RR but there's no sirtech screen as far as i recall.

just go on and see if you get that dark main menu background with some soldiers with dogs... you can't miss it if it's there.

it must be something totally unexpected...

let's go through the process once more:

you have updated to 2085 1.13.

now the next step is to extract the RR files from the downloadarchive to the folder where ja2 is (for this purpose, open the ja2 download archive using whatever tool yo use for the purpose. then drag-and-drop all contents, namely RR beta 17 exe, the data-renegade folder and all the rest to this location)

the tool would ask you to overwrite ja2.ini now, agree to do so.

it is probably better to remove any writing protection or shit from ja2.ini before in case there was one

then apply the patches and additions the same way, with faces addition being the last part to add.

now the only thing left to do is run the RR beta 17 exe.

Try to keep those 4 things in mind, they are the key elements:

1. the custom data is where it is supposed to be, data-renegade folder exists and has all its content (around 500 megs or so.. a lot in any case)

2. ja2.ini points to data-renegade as custom data folder location

3. you use RR beta17 exe, not via any shortcuts or anything.

4. Make sure you have the patches installed especially if you want to play 640x480

Press print screen - open paint - paste - use 'save as' in paint (preferably as jpg if possible) - upload it to some free image site like Photobucket - link from there.

pressed print screen , nada !
tried all three exe.'s , all still start 1.13 , ja2.ini definitely has data-renegade as custom data location , all installed as instructed ,RR data folder at 556mb , should the ja2ini inside the RR folder, be alongside folder ?

yes, you don't see a direct result of pressing "print screen"

but after you have pressed it, open up paint and select "insert" or whatever it is in english to show your config.

ja2.ini is alongside the EXE not inside the folder. Everything comes at the right place out of the box. if what you write is correct then the game has to run ja2 RR.

how far have you run the game to check whether it's RR or not?

As for using print screen in the game lockie, it saves the image to your root directory and is usually called like screen000 or screen001 on up depending on how many you took. It also saves it as a .tga file, which meeds to be converted to .bmp or a .jpeg format before you can upload it to imageshack or some other photo upload place. Then after uploading your image you copy/paste the URL into your post here and then your image appears.

If you use print screen outside the game like capturing your ini file or whatever i believe it defaults to your my documents folder or some place in there.

@Lockie - i noticed while playing on Vista that due to the fact that the folder is read-only the installation of any mod becomes a mess, basically it won't save the new INI and you're stuck with 1.13.

I don't remember what OS you're using, but if you're using Vista, check the INI again... If it has "magically" reverted to "Data-1.13" it's the above problem.

yes, conseil sending messages implies you're using RR

but hitman using a wrong item (it's not a mortar, the mortar is just a placeholder pic)

means also that a wrong prof.dat is used. Maybe you have a partly-complete installation ;-D

can you check if you have a folder data-renegade/maps ?

that should contain quite a bit of data, if you open it, it shoudl have hundreds of files.

then apparently, the binarydata is missing too. how can this be possible...

clear sign of bad install. it looks a lot like you only installed the patches, not the actual mod.

(the number of maps in the patches sums up as 13, and you also have some tabledata stuff like items.xml but are lacking the binarydata stuff...)

again, there are several hundreds of megabytes to be installed to the correct location.

maybe your download was corrupted? how large is the download archive?

glad you like it.

i don't know exactly why it crashes. My best guess is that it has to do with the part of the code that handles enemy equipment distribution.

All attempts to evade it have been fruitless though :-/

it apparently doesn't depend on game time, but on progress it seems. if you head straight for the end game, you might see the problems just faster ;-(

one idea is to play it slowly. So you can play for a long time before running into these freezes.

once these freezes occure, quicksave before loading tactical maps in order to avoid oo much frustration.

since i don't know the exact problem, there's not much i can help i'm afraid. sry.
