Anyone else think Shaped charges are kind of useless? I would expect it to blow any lock off, but those things are pretty useless. I cannot even use it to blow open a door that cannot be picked.

I think locks have two values, one to pick it and another to break it. Shaped charges only damage strong locks, making them possibly easy to kick open afterwards, but I don't think they do anything to the 'pick' value. Propably rather hard to pick a half-molten lock anyway. One thing I expected shaped charges to be good for was the orta door, after 10 shaped charges it was still as good as new. The damn thing even resists rpg rounds, must be made of neutronium or something...

The Orta door can ONLY be opened with the keycard.

Shaped charges can be pretty good, but you might have to use a few of them, in some versions all shaped charges in one pocket would be used, would almost always result in a blown door. If I need to go somewhere fast I usually just but some C4 on the door or a wall, otherwise I pick the lock.

I think the lockpick-difficulty is tied to (type of lock and then) the %-state of the lock.
So degrading the lock (explosives or the message 'lock hit') should make it easier to pick.

Propably rather hard to pick a half-molten lock anyway., that would be true in reality.

When I use a crowbar on a lock, I get the message sometimes "lock hit", but I have not noticed such message when I used shaped charge on them. It is not even a diffcult lock too. I was eventually able to pick that lock with Barry's sorry ass mech skills, but anyways, his shaped charges did no damage to the lock at all...

Shaped charges will open doors. Just for kicks, try it on easy locked doors with a good merc, like at Drassen airport to see how well it works. Even if the first charge doesn't work, it'll make it easier to kick the door in.

Yep, use a shape charge then kick it. You may have to kick more than once.

The bright side is that you have a good chance of getting a point of strength by kicking the door open.

I may be wrong, but some doors like the orta one aren't just impossible to pick. I think they are very hard to pick, but there is some code that locks it again as soon as you pick it.
I say that because I recently repetitively tried to pick it with Vicky, and at some point she got flattened by Spider (she says: I am not surprised, Vick is the finest), but the door were still locked.

What do you think?

Orta: is better giving Skipper a cheap garbage item than trying to open by force, pick, etc. :gaga:

Damn, that was a very cheap keycard.......

Shaped charges: Ahhhhh, I remember the first times, when Barry was not so good at Mech, and Steroid had a poor Dex.Then I made Barry put a Shaped charges on the door and Steroid or Grizzly kick it.

Yes yes, I know about the keycard and bribing the scientist. It's just that anything man-made that can't be destroyed with a ton of explosives or so annoys me. If thay had drawn a proper meter-thick door and walls, I wouldn't complain. But the damn door looks like it's 10cm thick tops and it still resists everything.

Nowadays you have lockbuster ammo and locks taking damage from kicking/forcing. I have Flo and Biff kicking doors down in my games, takes a good while but they gain health/strength by doing so. It's a good thing they haven't modelled sprains or fractures in the game...

That's why the vanilla is only a game.A not so realistic one,but JAv1.13 is trying hard. :animread:

I treat JA like a game.Don't look for too much realism.I look for fun.If it pleases me,it's allright.
Maybe that's why I like sci-fi mode. :scan:

Sorry for the nacro but in this case time isn't a barrier, and I want to echo the same sentiments as in the OP. Shaped charges has proven useless in my playthrough's and RP attempts. In the few cases where I encountered doors blocking my progress it was far faster\easier to go around, use the window or wait it out and use a locksmith, or get creative with other methods.

So, I'll leave this video here for future consideration on shaped charges capabilities.

I wish shaped charges damaged enemies behind the door, well... enemies or whoever is standing behind the blast area, that would increase their size a bit and pretty much use them like some games from the SWAT franchise do, especially now that FLASHBANG damage can be added to it and they could be shocked, so they couldn't reaction fire as you storm the building.
