Im having a spot of difficuly with what i feel is the rather uneven difficuly level in the game (1.13). After taking the drassen SAM I get hit with the elites (dont use the Drassen counterattack) and they slaughter me. A few saves and reloads later i manage to catch them south of the SAM at night and with some patience and more save/reload I kill them. Game goes on at a slow pace and I take Chitzene with SAM, after while at least 2 squads of elites show up. I cant manage to get more than 2 of them in any scenario, unless I hit them in the head they take like 2 damage and hit my guys for 20+ damage at long ranges.

Obviously Im doing it wrong.

Am I to slow? Its like day 13 by the time I take Chitzena. I like to take it slowly but that it perhaps too slow...

I need to get better at this game obviously. Any special tricks to taking on the elites when I dont have have powered sniperrfiles? Managed to get my hands on a couple of L85s woth combat sights so far...

I went from Drassen to Chitzena via San Mona. Is there and order of conquest that is easier?

Or perhaps I should get down to Novice til I learn this game a bit better...

San Mona, Chitzena, Drassen is a quite easy way.

Killing Kingpin and his goons gives you a nice boost to your economy, you get better weapons and training for your mercs.

Or you could try changing the percentage of elites in the .ini file.

I go Drassen -> San Mona -> Chitzena -> Drassen SAM -> Chitzena SAM, but I train the militia to completely light-blue before moving on from one location to the next. If elites are approaching, I'll attack them at night if possible, if not, I'll hide in a small room and kill them as they enter.

I guess you are not playing with the Drassen counter attack then?

You ought to be able to train 10-20 militia at the SAM site before they show up. Even though they are just greenshirts they will soften the blow of the elite attack, wound a few attackers, and eat lead for you. Have your guys hang back and snipe (with any longer range guns) and let the militia take the brunt of the attack.

L85s are good. Use white (match) ammo or red (AP) against the elites. You ought to have some SKS and Mini-14s if you are getting L85s and any of those will work fine as they have good range. Even some of the 9MM guns have decent range for this point in the game (Steyr AUG Para, KP M/31 Suomi, Calico M-900, etc.) so use them if you don't have any rifles.

Set up most of you guys on the roof of the building and lay down a square or two back from the edge.

Don't forget grenades....grenades will soften up the enemy by damaging their health, armor, and accuracy. Get a M79, Colt Launcher System (CLS), or RGM from Tony on your way through San Mona. Devin will sell 40mm grenades if you find him early enough. With a grenade, you can hurt a group of enemies, weaken their armor, so your gunshots do more damage, and when they are wounded, they will not aim as well. If you don't have HE grenades, stun grenades work just as well.
