Hi,

I recently purchased Jagged Alliance 2 and have loved playing the early stages of the game. Then, I found this site and realised that the game had been modded. I currently have 1.13 v 2085 and the improvements are staggering. However, as I am still new to the game, I was hoping to play a whole game and was wondering what settings you would recommend for a first attempt through the game.

I will not reload the game, under any circumstances, but was wondering if playing on difficult would be impossible. I was also thinking of playing it with the 1.13 1085 mod improvements, experienced level, tons of guns, normal bobby's store.

Any suggestions?

Knowing that many of you are experts at this game, what settings would you recommend a newbie that wished to play the game without reloading when mercs get killed?

Ive also been reading about the Drassen counter attack which sounds pretty devastating. Would you recommend me leaving this on or turning it off?

In essence, what do you all think the perfect game settings would be for a new player, willing to lose mercs, and seeing how far he can get through the game the first time?

Thanks folks,

Novice Realistic TOG. Multiple Imps allowed (don't get a new one until your current one has bought it). DCA switched off. Drop all & sell to locals. Bray awesome. Allow mobile militia. Allow reinforcements. Normal line of sight. Allow weather. Can't think of any other thingies; no doubt somebody else will chip in with some good advice.

Do turn off the counterattack if you are not going to reload. Until you have played through all the way once I wouldn't recommend the settings (like that) that make the game more difficult.

So I would say use the default settings in the .ini except (well, some of these might be defaults):
1) Turn off counterattack
2) As Will said allow drop all and selling things to locals
3) Use the default Bobby Ray's setting. Anything higher makes the later parts of the game less interesting IMO.
4) Turn off SciFi. Or turn it on but disable the bugs in the .ini
5) Set number of militia allowed in sectors to 25 and allow training of elite militia.
6) Make sure the queen is aggressive.

If you're a first time player, I wouldn't recommend Queen aggressive setting just yet.

Even though you won't be reloading, save often, because the game still crashes unexpectedly.

Will, thanks for the input but what do these words mean?

Whats TOG?

Whats DCA?

Whats bray?

Presuming the Imps are your personal charcters. I presumed you only get 1 until he dies and then you get a replacement. Am i correct?

And Spaceviking, you suggest I turn off the insects. Does the game still have a sci fi element without the insects? Are they simply too dangerous for a newbie?

Thanks too Foij for your no queen aggressive suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestions folks, I really appreciate the input.

Ill be stating a new game on Sunday so Ill precis the suggested setups before I commence. I think it will be interesting to play the game with the experts suggestions for a better game experience.

Cheers folks.

Whats TOG?

Tons of guns, gives you much more weapons than default setting (which gives you all weapons from original JA2 plus a few more)

Siliconpsychosis

Whats DCA?

Drassen Counter attack, a lot of enemies attacking Drassen after you take it. People really need to think about the use of acrynoms when talking to new players.

Whats bray?

Bobby Rays, the online weapon store.

Yes I.M.Ps are the custom mercs. You can create six of them at once, but Will suggests you don't gete another one until the one you have dies.

If you turn off the insects (crepitus) in the .ini file you will still have Sci-Fi elements such as prototype weapons, more advanced gear and so on.
