I figured I'd open a separate thread for voicing my thoughts on the gameplay rather than cluttering the Downloads topic.
Anyway, I really am enjoying this mod! Much praise to Jazz and the Legion2 team!
While I kind of do miss the New Inventory as in 1.13, the modification to the original JA2 inventory is quite functional, so I got no qualms about that.
While not everyone might like it, the randomly generated stats for the AIM and MERC mercenaries are a unique idea, as some of the oddball mercs that aren't as used are considerable options now since their stats are based on the experience level. I like the randomly generated clothing too, gives a bit more variety to what you're looking at.
My team for the v33 beta consists of Scope, Reaper, Fox, and IMP. I had a real laugh when Reaper the death man decided to wear pink for his mission. :biglaugh:
The enemy AI is quite challenging and the new maps make the fighting areas quite refreshing to play through. They tend to have superior gear than you in some parts, but that makes it more challenging. The loot after the fights is pretty nice too.
So far, I'm playing on Experienced. I'm on Day 3, picked up Alex, and am at Gonez. I really liked the lower sector, the one with the execution scene, that was pretty neat. I recruited Jordan and Prot, but since Prot is based on the Conrad RPC, I have to pay him the $5,500 fee to keep him on the team, and I'm already struggling to keep Scope and Reaper's contracts extended. Prot didn't mention any fee in his dialogue (not that I recall), so I'm wondering whether his cost is intended or not.
Ah, speaking of NPC dialogue, it goes by too fast and I have to go to the map screen to take a good read. I don't know if anyone else has the problem, but I thought I'd throw it out there. Also, should I kill Flint in Gonez before talking to Jax in Griza for some extra cash? I don't really feel good about siding with someone who kills innocent civilians, but don't want to screw up a possible quest. :maskedsniper:
Still though, this is a great mod, I'm having a blast!

if the final goal was to kill the general, then i did it. (on day 39, not that it matters.) there was no final ceremony but i hope it was the ending as there was no way back from that final sector. or maybe the game decided i had not done all i had to do - that sector K8 i could not reach any more or something else.
so, thanks to everybody involved, it was really fun to play. i'll definitely return to Osarwia when there'll be some debugging done and an english or at least russian version, as i did not understand some of the plot. decided to side with Flint, so went and killed Jax, but Flint's people did not help me, Flint himself is very nervous and in diary there is still in red: Zlecenie na Jax'a. obviously it does not mean: go and kill him. and seems i missed half the fun as i did not go to sector P9.
the concept is really good and the style - hire cheaper mercs and move fast - suits me. Osarwia is not Arulco, thats for sure: you move on foot only and there is no regular income. there is money around, but you do not know where and when you find it. so that even with "drop all" (and "sell all") there are some economically tight moments - and even more reason to act fast.
it was possible to use "fight squad" and "support squad", but afterwards i'd think two self-dependent units moving separately would be better - now my first squad had to wait for late arrivals. and by the time medic and mech finally arrived, the wounds had already healed and soldiers with quite modest mech abilities had repaired their guns. but once again - it was great fun

warning, big spoiler ahead
there are still many things i do not know/understand, but...
there are means of transportation or teleportation. something like boat/barge between N5-O5. if you talk with the sailor-looking man long enough, he'll take the squad over. (practical, when you return with the girl.)
there is a guy named Spike, i met him in bar in Napol, but he is not all the time there. again, if you talk with him, he somehow transports the squad to a place near where the kidnapped girl is held. so talking with him definitely helps to find the girl sooner.
local gangsters Flint and Jax both want the other dead. if you kill Jax and go to report to Flint about that, he'll try to kill you. dunno what happens if you side with Jax.
now the biggest quest that helps to find the bad general you have to kill finally. in Czonowo there is something like a hospital and there is a doctor who needs some medical stuff. that stuff is in Gonez where Flint lives. if you promise Flint to kill Jax (hmm, or kill Flint) he does not mind if you take that bag (one is enough). now, if you send just one runner with the bag back to Czonowo, make sure he can pick locks and remove explosive traps - that damn hospital is locked up. now, in return for the medical stuff the doctor gives you a map. with the map you go into Korsa and find archeologist Tina (daytime, western part of M14). you give her the map and Tina tells about a cave in mountains (NE part of the map, behind Posterunek). Robots with sniper rifles are quite tough and they spawn back if you try to go through the caves with next squad also.
BTW, i had BR selection as great but got no mortar shells or even 40 mm grenades from BR. considering the number of tanks around its really annoying to throw rocks at them hoping they'll break down. (grenades are a bit better but still nuisance.)

small notices about persons. in Napol, in bar with Spike is Jack. He seems to be in debt to Spike, so if you talk to Jack and pay Spike $6000 (?), Jack joins your squad. person is based on Dynamo, so when you have healed him, he can be used as mech.
Prot - if you choose to hire him - has some old enmity with Chris, the guy who "owns" Napol. so if Chris happens to see Prot, there'll be war.
now, i really appreciate each mod being different, needs different approach and so on. i also know i can tweak every person with editor just how i like it. and yet i'd complain a bit. Buzz has many good qualities, making her a good merc, but never before have i considered her physical strength one of those. still, in Legion she is one of the strongest with her STR 70. especially if compared to Wolf (69), Trevor and Thor (68), Nails and Bull (67), Grizzly (65), Stogie (64) and unhappy Steroid, whose body chemistry has seriously backfired, so he is down to 59 :rant2:
