Thanks the compliment on my walkthrough! :wave:

I really loved this game, and this was my first walkthrough in about 8 years since I used to do the online ones for Prima Publishing. I really wanted to do a similar walkthrough for 7.62, but since the english version is coming out later this year and I don't know any russains I guess I'm waiting for the official release! lol

Shanga
Might be a simple explanation regarding weapon familiarity. It has two components.

So I didn't lose my familiarity with the SAW, even if I cleared the whole map with a Laser Gun. But you should notice there are two types and probably they act differently. You might've given back your character a different Dragunov... or something like that. Or looked in different places each time...

As a rule Weapon Class familiarity grows much slower than Specific Weapon. And makes sense. Each soldier cares for his own weapon first.

Give your Dragunov a name and that way you'll be sure sure you don't "steal" it from its rightfull owner.

Hmm, good point I didn't cover Weapon Class familiarization at all in my walkthrough. Naming your weapons keeps yuo from losing valuable bonuses. Actually I only found this really useful for my meele and light arms specialist. The heavy weapons seem to get upgraded several times through play. However the LAW and Katana seem to last you nearly the entire game!

a thought occured , which version did you buy ? if not reloaded , then there is a problem with starforce piracy protection . Patch to 1.10 , add english mod and might solve your problem ?

Hazard mate, I am no tech specialist regarding The Fall. I installed it (german version), applied 1.9 and 1.10 patches and voila... played it with no problems at all.

Since it's a full 3D game, there might be a GPU overheat problem in sight. On full 3D scenes the graphics card is crunching hard and if the cooler is a bit old or dirty... My old ATI used to gather up dust each 2 weeks and crash the OS on any serious 3D activity.

Seems the crashing varies somewhat in frequency, no idea what is causing it although it does seem like it crashes more the longer I play at a time so could have something to do with overheating or something like although that would be the first time ever this has happend to me in any game. But thanks for the help lads.

yeah , true , still it is annoying when this could be such a great mod scorp ! I shall indeed give it another go after Fall . Your maps , characters , weapons and new quests really do give ja another adrenalin shot , and I did enjoy what I managed to see , with plenty of main map to explore yet :ok: , the potential IS there , so don't give up in disgust just yet Very Happy

played for a few hours yesterday , things to do today , so may not be at it again till later , but no problems so far , in comparison to fallout ( which it's trying to be)it lacks the humour and depth of gameplay , but definitely superior in visuals , combat a bit rushed , compared to JA. Seems to be a lot of 'crap' lying around to pick up and trader prices a bit confusing . Using the walkthrough by David Finn , and have to say thanks , it's helping enormously !

To be it seems like a game who could've been great but was rushed out the door, hoping the modders will fill in the dots. When you've got a system that allows so many item combos, it's plain stupid not to use it to generate weapon improvements, at least to the extent of JA2. They got hunting, skinning and cooking implemented, yet the value of food is nil. It's heavy and you're better off using medicines. There could've been so many things added to bring a "wild" feeling to the game... and almost none was.

You get too many items too quick, due to the fact that there is no intermediary action between sectors. You are basically beamed out from hotspot to hotspot and you're done with the game faster than you've started.

And I agree about the combat system. That's a major minus. I don't have a clue who was the smartass who decided they don't need to aim the weapons. But he was an idiot and makes the game retarded.

Fall is a lot of potential squandered, as I said. At the first look it has an open source code and a great map editor so it's seemingly very moddable too. Yet only a handfull of mods came out... so logic tells me there are deep problems within.

I might be wrong, but life told me that when everything looks too good to be true, it's not good at all.

Except from the combos listed in the FAQ there are none. A lot of objects are there for no purpose at all... obviously the company ran out of money before they managed to think of any use for them.

Last thing I read on their forums was a discussion between devs and members about what item combos they would like to see in the game. There were tons of suggestions, none implemented.

Even those who are in are not easy to understand. For example, a certain belt can be attached to the rifles to make them easier to carry. But it's hard to find the specific one that works it's not even fun. A simpler workflow would've been to skin an animal and make yourself belts and whatever you wanted. Belts, boots, etc...

In a postapocaliptic world you'd expect people to make better use of land resources than stashing them into backpacks and looking for a shop/trader to sell them to.

I bought and played it, and if your thinking of getting it...dont. I loved the idea, but the execution was horrible. They have waaay to many filler missions, and the game has NOo tactical depth. The story is bad, and to provide perspective, I laiked E3 brigade and other non west releases...but this one has no reademing qaulities! I could give more in depth view, but after 15 plus missions I gave up on it...which is very rare for me.

Well, I finished it today for the second time.
And to tell the truth to me it is, at this moment, everything JA3 should have been.
Never was one of those that were looking for tactical depth in a game like this, though.
There's certainly something about this game's atmosphere and artwork that makes me feel it deserves a better fate.

If you can get this cheaply , buy it . Tisn't a bad game , as I say , bit like fallout3 / hired guns etc.

As for res change , umm , had a look in files , can't see where it might be changed , I thought it looked ok .

Hmmm...
You played?

Now, just think like this:
-an engine like the one of this fall-en one's;
-usual gadgets, like the ones in this game;
-keeping the traditional 6 mercs/team play;
-keeeping money and trading system like in JA2
-keeping AIM and at least a dozen of the mercs in JA2
at least 16 locations in a world...looking like what?

It's been simple, and obvious how it should look since the beginning.
And all the time under everybody's nose.
Change what magicly wins and captures imaginations, a receipt and a team that hasn't known defeat?
Here's a sample:
http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/2071/lsdaytown2ya8.th.jpg

Looks familiar?
http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/4664/lsnighttown2bx6.th.jpg
Really familiar?
With soldiers looking like the merc in the "dayforrest" loadscreen?
No kidding...

The thingy should have been in our computers at least 3 years ago, if not 5.
And instead I have to play The Fall or try that "7.62" and uninstall it after some hours.
Or do the thing myself and start modding The Fall.
Congrats to the wise owners of the licence...

Brigade E5 was a good semi-replacement though, and Hired Guns was okay and fun to play too. I have my hopes up for 7.62, slated for release in 2 weeks (in Germany), so the world hasn't ended...

Need someone who can do the scripting part for a JA2 mod on this.
Been playing with the editor and came up with an Omerta map based on the "railway station" hight map ,only reversed...even experimented with adding textures.
I think it's doable to have Omerta, Drassen, Alma, etc, as locations, especially that every ja2 graphic has at least an equivalent in this game. And managed to insert a ja2 strategic map flipped vertically.Putting Miguel&co, plus some JA2 chars in this and their english speech, like for example a Fox-Wolf-Grizzly-Linx-Ice team shouldn't be too much of a hassle.
But in spite of the modding documentation and actually visiting my location, I'm not figuring something right and my head hurts too bad to do any more figuring.
