Ha! Scorpion gets a natty special badge; here be mine.

Little update on the progress of MFM Tracona. About 9 maps away from alpha completion then some serious testing for every eventuality. I can only work evenings on this as all my weekends are spoken for so it will be slowish despite being smaller than JA2 MFM. Expect by September is my guess. Approx 67 maps. All annoying "stationary" UB soldiers have been given different orders. Some New Weapon types. A New Ammo type. Mix of RPC's from JA2 & UC added. Fixed Robots from UC inc all missing sound files. Fixes to various tilesets and some new/adapted tiles. Starting money bumped up a bit. My mad map making skills getting better I reckon. I'll post some screenies next week to whet your appetites. :blah:

Update. All the maps are done physically and I'm about half way through a playtest. What is clear is that I'll have to go in and do a really detailed edit every single soldier and faction dude. This may take some time (approx 2700 individuals) but it'll be worth it in the end.

You will see... oh yesss... you will sseee.

Eh? No not him. Tis the voice of Smeagol as spoken by Andy Serkis. The best skitz conversation on film ever without a doubt.

Smeagol: They knows, they knows! They suspects us!
Gollum: What's it saying, my Precious, my love? Is Smeagol losing his nerve?
Smeagol: No! Not! Never! Smeagol hates nasty Hobbitses! Smeagol wants to see them... dead!
Gollum: And we will. Smeagol did it once, he can do it again.
Smeagol: It's ours! Ours! [Panicking suddenly] We must get the Precious, we must get it back!
Gollum: Patience! patience, my love. First we must lead them to her.
Smeagol: We lead them to the winding stairs.
Gollum: Yes, the stairs, and then?
Smeagol: Up, up, up the stairs we go until we come to... the tunnel!
Gollum: And when they go in, there's no coming out. She's always hungry, she always needs to feed. She must eat, all She gets is filthy Orcses.
Smeagol: And they doesn't taste very nice, does they, Precious?
Gollum: No, not very nice at all, my love. She hungers for sweeter meats. Hobbit meat. And when She throws away the bones and the empty clothes, we will find it!
Smeagol: And take it for meeee!
Gollum: For us.
Smeagol: Yes, we, we meant for us.
Gollum: The Precious will be ours once the Hobbitses are dead.

of course , can't remember the name of the giant spidress , ( nameless one ? )but , yes sirkis did a splendid job , I assume he'll be up for "The Hobbit" . Only character I wasn't entirely happy with in The Rings was Frodo . Bit anaemic , I thought ! Wonder who'll be lead in new movie ?

If done well that could be the most terrifying moment in movie history. Imagine being on a scale where you are smaller than a spider! I think The Hobbit might be the best one of them all if handled correctly.

Back on topic: it is really great that you are annexing your mod to include a UB version. Am I correct that in the vanilla version of your mod you will be able to import characters from your last game?

That was the intention but there are some character clashes I need to resolve first otherwise it's "start fresh". All characters start a level or two up even on this setting inc the IMP; and the evolution in game is very fast which kinda makes up for it. Half way through detailed soldier by soldier edit. Plays well but I need to rebalance it a bit. The robots are really tough and staying that way!

As for the off topic giant spider scenario. True horror; even worse than a shark for instance, coz they leave you alive for a while and kill you slowly.

The enemy robots walk about, are "armed" to the teeth and take a huge battering before they finally give up the ghost. They drop nothing at all.

Madlab's robot has had an upgrade. Max ap's. Max LoS. Tough as old boot plus spots mines which is a very nice addition. Got all that working this weekend. It's now a must have RPC.

Not yet. Maybe he waits for anniversry patch. Thinking of which I better put it together.

As an aside Tilesets 50 to 59 (the UB ones) are full of errors (they must have done them in a hurry) & I hope I have fixed most of them. All the obvious ones anyway. Some problems stem from having two sources for generics (0 & 50) so some renaming was required. Some had faulty jsd files so renamed from similar good ones. Some had missing graphics esp gables so I did some. Probably still a few to do but it'll be worth it for the tileset collectors.

4 maps away from my heavy person by person edit. It now is an approximation of "drop all". Looking for some playtesters. Please send PM.

Okay so I've hit a slight glitch in MFM Tracona (the robot war). Scifi is deactivated as an option in the UB world; not a problem as I didn't want another bug hunt through some caves. What is a problem though is some of the effects are missing. In regular JA2 monster spit as an ammotype delivers a gas effect at a distance as well as the initial hit itself. That is how I made the flame thrower work. In UB the flamer still flames for the initial hit but no gas effect is delivered at a distance which is really annoying. I've tried everything I can think of and it's bogging me down. If anybody knows how to reactivate this part I'd be very grateful.

Other than that the map testing is good so far. It's already made me laugh several times and it's my own work! Prepare to be surprised.

What did I reckon 080808? Hmmm; late august early september more as like. The girly does take up much my time as do the sproglets. It's working well; the only deadlocks left are to do with faction guys who need a little tweaky... know what the problem is just need the time and fiddley patience to achieve. Mr.K was/is investigating the exe to see why/how sci-fi is disabled and or if it can be restored. Thinking of which I've done some work on the exe so I should send him the new version.

Stuff it. I reckon I've got it as good as it's going to get. A few final tests to run then I'll pack it up for Filefront. I reckon I might hit that 080808 date after all.

The Sci-Fi being blocked in the exe was hardcoded for some reason I cannot remember. Been ages since I even picked up UB (and promptly put it back in the cupboard), so will have to have a deep search for why it was blocked. Not sure it can be re-enabled (as I only do bad hex editing with exe's anyway Wink ) but it may do to ask some of the 1.13 coders Smile

Send over the new stuff when ya ready and I will get on with the installer. Damn new prog is very involved and hard to learn Sad

You should have everything you need for JA2MFM one click.

For UBMFM stuff it'll be easier to wait for the Filefront thing koz otherwise I have to chop it up into 6 pieces in order to e-mail. Whole thing is 50mb plus. while examining the exe have a look and see why bray is absent (ok so no airports but is that all?) and why no militia training allowed (ok so it's a foreign hostile country so logical at least... town doesn't use loyalty etc). Another approach might be to see if JA2SmEdit can be made to work on UB. This would be a giant leap forward otherwise it's 1hr45mins between all custom maps without exception.

The 1.13 is going well, thing is I am testing having both the 1.13 and vanilla in the same download. What you choose in the install sequence is whats installed (as the files are all packed separately anyway), so in essence its a true installer, not just a self-extracting rar.

However I will be doing the SE Rar's first to get it out. This prog isn't simple and I am having a problem with the script installing everything at the wrong option at the moment (for no apparent reason either :s).

Good stuff & good luck.

Currently running three simultaneous test games and tweaking when & where the odd thingey pops up.

(1) Novice. Top team inc Gus Magic Len etc. Full 18 squad sweeping through the countryside. They doing alright just the odd bad wound nothing much to worry about though Raven's wisdom is now a shockingly bad 52. I've yet to tackle the robot factory coz I'm certain of casualties.

(2) Normal. All women inc IMP. Only day 6 and they're still bogged down trying to get a foothold in Varrez. Spider has become a fantastic shot in less than a week. Tough going but fun.

(3) Expert. My Kommunista JA2 starting crew. IMP, Ivan, Igor, Grunty, Barry, Buns. Again bogged down trying to take Varrez at about day 6. However have learnt a tactic from the Normal test game so somehow not as relentless... yet. Maybe it's just encouraging to have Uncle Ivan in theatre.

I intend to get to the end of all three games before release koz I want it all to be as good as it can be. This may or may not cause delays. It'll be better than having to send out little updates after the event, no?

Okay restarted all three test games because I've had a last minute flash of inspiration and rewritten the bloodcats... there are now three types of robot in game.

(1) Bastardbot. Ultra tough. Long range weaponry. More numerous towards factory. Fight alongside enemy soldiers and more or less takes the place of tanks but is mobile.

(2) Shockbot. Not so tough but smaller and faster than the above. Delivers nasty 30hp+ shock on contact. Deadly in large numbers. Non aligned and out of control.

(3) Warbot. Madlab's pet RPC. Max AP's. Auto Mine Detector. Long range vision. I like this guy depite his relative lack of "character".

Poor Lockie. You seem to be the only one looking forward to this. My re-write of the bloodcats has changed the rules somewhat so I need to make a few more maps. I go on holiday 21st August and will do my utmost to have it done by then. I absolutely need to have it out my system by 21st Sept in any case as am going into hospital again and all that scary type stuff. If the postings just stop around then don't worry... I'll be back.

Which reminds me; there is a fourth type of Robot of course. The very excellent Terminator from DL. How could I forget him? You get a special prize for slotting that one!

11 of the 12 new maps done (me and my little chemical helper stayed up late last night). There will be 84 maps in total. I'm very pleased with the sudden change of direction... it makes it more rounded somehow.

Hey it's Mentat not Buffout! Besides it's my prescription.

D************e. There is a risk of both physical and psychological dependence on this drug with repeated use. It can impair the mental and physical abilities if taken in large doses, [color:#FF0000]but it has the opposite effect when taken in moderate amounts[/color].
