That's an old time bug. And it still is has not been completely fixed in 1.13 either. The only thing you can do is a lot of saving and loading and keep trying it until Darren gives you the money.

this bug seems to go even deeper. just happened to me also. won the first match, got money, won the second - and was ignored. reloaded few times with the same result. just shrugged and went away, as i did not need the money anyway. i used Razor and he acts strange after that. in battle zone (real time), when everybody else is holding his/her rifle ready, he is talking with walkie-talkie (or cell-phone?) and few times he have just stood up by himself and walked away from the place i've put him to guard.
maybe, just maybe he got the money after all but choose not to share it with the team and works now for Kingpin :bluesuspect:

I think I just ran into this the other day as well.

1.13 2085 + NIV.

Used my IMP, won fight 1. Decided to stop, talked to Darren, and he asked me if i want to fight again. I said no. Then nothing happens. My bank account is minus the original 5k I gave when I fought, and no matter how i talk to darren, he doesn't give money.

I've seen the same thing as Burzmali/Moka. I had Grizzly fight and later he'd just get up and walk off sometimes. That was with an old build maybe 5-6 months ago, though.

The whole boxing thing has never worked well. I remember problems (not getting paid, etc.) back when JA2 was originally released.

I've also had it where I've given the wager money to start the fight and the fight hasn't started. Amazing game but I save literally every 2 mins so if i hit bugs like that i can go back.

noticed one more thing about wolf (i used him in the first fight), other that the radio thing, and turnin' at different directions, now he can walk into rooms with unlocked closed doors without actually havin' me to order him to open the door, he just walks to the door, open it, walks inside and closes it behind him, which is really like the way enemies bahave, not really complainin' just noticed this weird thing and wanted to share it.

The bug with the fight send us to this conclusion:
Stole the money in the caves, kill kingpin assassins, burn San Mona, and become the new Kingpin.

I usually avoid the boxing. If your interested in getting the Chalice quest from Kingpin you can still get it by stealing his money and then actually paying him back, before he starts sending the assassins. After paying him he will ask you to get the Chalice for him. And San Mona stays neutral. You don't have to give him the chalice.

Hiya.

I'm a noob on the forum and a noob of JA2, just started a week ago. (I played JA1 a lot tho. Then I heard about some rumor that JA2 gives you worse equipment every time you save the game, never bothered to check if it was true or not. And never played the game because of it. I guess it turned out to be just a myth Smile

ANYWAYS, I'm not a noob to problem solving.

I'm using JA2 v1.13 2085 new inventory.

Here's some info on my "boxing bugs" and how I manage to overcome them. Sure they aren't scientific or a cure for the bugginess, but they help.

Merc who does my fighting is Bull.

Problem: When giving Darren money, Kingpin doesn't show up.
Solution0: Make sure there's no npc's standing around at the door. And ONLY having 1 merc in the sector helps.

Problem: After a fight, the merc just "freezes" in the ring.
Solution1: When you knock down your opponent, kneel and hit him one more time. DON'T kill him.
Solution2: Before you enter the ring, throw away your backpack or pouch. Sounds crazy but it works. Just leave it on the floor. Gun too. My merc "only" has holsters, armor, face gear, medikit and dusters on him.
Solution3: Enter the ring from different angles.

Problem: After the fight, Darren doesn't ask if you'd like another fight.
Solution4: Don't talk to him. Leave the sector and come back. Be friendly and after the first conversation he should ask for a new fight.

I'm using solutions 0,1,2 and 4 now everytime when fight day comes and I manage to get all 3 fights pretty consistently and without much hassle.

Hi,

Haven't played JA2 in years. Heard about 1.13 and tried it. Man it's awesome.

Ok about this bug. I don't remember encountering it in the original Ja2 but that was years ago. But i did see it in 1.13 and wildfire. So, here is my solution. I did it about 2,3 times and seems to work every time.

After my opponent goes down I don't finish him off imediately but instead go to the side of the ring near Darren. Then after the next turn Darren proclaims the winner and I jump out of the ring next to Darren and he gives me the money.

What I notice is that after the fight if I jump out of the ring 3 or 4 tiles away from Darren he does not give me the money.

Donno if this works for you though.

Ok i didn't know about the - Don't kill the guys thing and i killed them all and next time i didn't have any competition the next time- the fight didn't end after i knocked them down and hit them- so what do i do exactly? i knock them down, hit them once, then what? w8t for a little while?

O w8t i didn't see that last post- but i thought if u went out of the ring it was an automatic loss?

So u go out of the ring or just near Darren?

I've only had a couple of boxing glitches in quite a while of playing JA2 (I have the 1.07, pre-Gold, version). I go to the club with at least 2 mercs. One handles the cash and the other boxes. Once you've knocked out the opponent wait for Darren to announce the winner.

Your fighter should exit the ring on their own (scripted event) and Darren will give the money to the nearest merc. Don't kill the fighters if you want to use the fights as an alternative source of income. And don't fight more than twice a day. Some days there won't be a fight because the fighters are resting, but it's not that frequent.

For some reason you can enter the ring by climbing if you're wearing a backpack, but you won't be able to leave the ring that way (the script won't climb you out) and you'll end up with an endless timer. Remove any heavy packs before you enter.

The third fight triggers the Kingping quest. I can't actually recall, though, if that ends the fighting, I believe it does though. It's just been my habit for quite a while and I've forgotten why.

Last event I have is that Kingping starts to shoot me soon as the bell tolls... May have to do with the sneaking real time as it is the latest SVN download...

I've had a similar event happen before in the past, twice. I couldn't find any reason for it so I reloaded from a pre-fight save each time and after the reload everything was normal.

At the time I wondered if it might have happened because I had stolen (unobserved) private items in the club sector. But since it didn't repeat after reloading I assumed it was a random glitch. I've done the boxing many hundreds, possibly thousands of times and that's only happened twice. I haven't tried it since the new SVN release though...

Did you try reloading and doing everything else the same to see if it triggers the hostility?

Thanks for the backpack advice. I've had Bull frozen in the ring a few times now and it was rather infuriating. Dropped the backpack and exits the squared circle normally.

A trigger should be added to automatically drop any backpack right before jumping into the ring.

That would rock. Would make the fights a lot less frustrating.

Actually, it'd be nice if you could get a popup whenever you enter combat, asking if you want to drop backpacks.

What , three guys in the ring boxing you at the same time ?? Or you have to have three fights before winning ? I've never had that , though I do mostly tend to avoid boxing and just shoot the brawny git's . Very Happy

Everyone who does the boxing knows that there's only 1 opponent every round. =P

I would avoid the boxing but there's just not enough money when you haven't captured at least 3 mines yet even just to keep your mercs around. I buy my guns from Bobby Ray's and those ain't cheap since enemies drop useless guns. XD

Though come to think about it, "enemies drop all equipments" seems much more realistic than winning 15k every 2nd night since i bet even Kingpin can see his fighters got nuthin' on my fighter merc and they're just wasting their bets.

The boxing event is the single worst piece of code in the game, 1.13 included. I have had no end of bugs, documented in my other thread. I've counted now 5 separate, easily reproducible bugs in this area, on a clean install. Each of the bugs will either prevent you from fighting (often permanently), steal your money or both. Some of them do, as mentioned earlier, cause strange behavior to persist well into the game. This needs to be looked at. I can only imagine the twisted mass of spaghetti code that must be swirling around these subroutines. It's F*CKED.

Yes, I'm pissed off.
