Hey, I just got this game yesterday after having wanted to play it for many years. It took about seven hours to figure out how to get it to work(Vista), and now it finally seems to run and save satisfactory.
I'm only a short while into the game but theres one major thing that bothers me now; Which ammo that goes to which guns seems just messed up. I'm no gun expert but I'm pretty sure a Glock 17 or that 9mm SMG isn't supposed to take those revolver bullets, 5.56mm and 7.62mm while not taking any 9mm clip. The Desert Eagle and revolvers on the other hand can only take 9mm.

Anyone else experienced this bug? Or is it something I haven't understood properly Razz Confused

A 9mm gun that only takes 5.56 or 7.62mm ammo? That's definitely a bug, if I understood you correctly. Why Vista? WHY?!

Just bought this comp, and Vista came with it Razz . Man, I dont dare to try and reinstall the game after all the problems I had getting it to run..
I don't get how the OS could cause a bug like that anyway.

By being severely badly designed, badly programmed, and half-assed in general. Windows 7 is going to come out in early 2009, doesn't that make you wonder how much energy was actually put into Vista, designed to last less than two years?

Hmm, this ammo thing only seems to be on the 1.13.
The 1.12 however acts even weirder so I don't think I can play that. You think its possible to copy some weaponsfolder files over from a 1.12 install to a 1.13 install?

Actually, it sounds like your JA2 install is goofed up. How did you install 1.13?

Well, I dont remember from where I got the 1.13, maybe I should try find another source and download a fresh one again.
The patch name is JA2 v1.13 Release [1.0.0.502].exe. It installs pretty much automatically when I click it, don't even get to choose directory.

Yeah well, apparently you had a release version from 2006 or something.

Happy hunting!

That's probably why I buy all the parts separately and do all the work myself. Being stuck with vista is definitely not worth it compared to a couple of hours setting up a new machine, or a few extra bucks to get quality parts.

Vista is fine. My current Vista system runs much better than my old XP system which ran quite well. I still kind of miss Windows 98, though.

Yea I'd do that, but this comp I bought mainly to have a laptop for college.
Besides, buying it all separate would require me to read into the computer world pretty much from scratch. Haven't bothered caring since the time I had a 200MHZ CPU while that was among the fastest you could get, so there would be some catching up to do :s .

Hah! This brings back memories.. Every time Microsoft releases an OS, it's the same bitching, whining and moaning how the new OS is pure crap, and the [insert previous version] is SOOOOO much better. Think back few years when XP was introduced.. it was deemed total crap and no one will ever use it.

Now the same people are screaming "Vista is pile of shit, and XP is SOOO much better!".
If it hadn't gotten old around XP, i'd be laughing.

Isnt that because that pile of shit has undergone lotsa fixes until it became useable? Windows XP Service Pack 3, anyone? Hello?

In general I dont use XP until SP2 come out, and SP3 only after 8 months of reading about people dealing with it. Newer, by god, isnt better.

WOW what a thread necro!

Actually the only thing I can say is Vista is SHITE. Avoid like the plague.

Newer isn't always better but in the case of Windows 7 I would have to disagree. It is better than XP by a country mile. More stable and has better support for drivers than any previous Windows OS. The support for older programs is great (though I do admit to issues with STIEdit Wink ) and currently I haven't found a reason to back to XP from the Win 7 beta. Once you get used to the changes its a very intuitive OS in the opposite way to how Vista was a pile of lard placed on top of XP.

I still prefer SP2 for XP 32bit though as it is faster than SP3 if correctly setup. However there are viruses out there that are specifically targeting weak points in SP2 that SP3 doesn't have which forces the update for most. Some of the conspiracy theorists may lay those viruses at the feet of MS themselves...

The other thing about XP is that it's great for those who don't have the most powerful dual core or better systems and for them if it ain't broke, don't fix it. However for people like me who have Quad Core, Crossfire/SLI systems then XP doesn't cut the mustard anymore. I cannot use the full potential of my system with XP 32bit, and with XP 64bit things are not 100% happy (my Wireless cards don't like it among other little niggles). Vista doesn't get considered. Win 7 however covers all the bases nicely and that's just the RC7100. I currently use my test RC7100 as my main OS because even on my slower HD it is faster than the other OS's. All of them.
