To load the grenade launcher, rickclick on the weapon to bring up the properties box. Put the grenade in one of the four boxes as an attachment above the weapon.
To fire you have to select GL or grenade launcher mode... the easiest way is hitting B twice to cycle through burst mode to GL mode. You can do the same thing if you have the merc's inventory expanded in Tactical. Click the fire-mode button in the lower left until it reads GL.

Don't expect too much of the USGL though. Its hardly better than a regular 'nade.

I'm not too impressed by their range either...

they aren't more than five times better than a regular thrown 'nade
like in real life

biggest advantage over regular nades is that you ca fire 40mm grenades from prone position.

AP balancing for UGL's is tricky though.

now that is actually a big advantage.
