I just installed UC, played it for an hour or so, when I encounter this problem:
As soon as I kill the last enenemt in sector B10, the game crashes- person is shot, falls to the ground, blood oozes out, my merc starts saying the line about killing enemies, but after merely a word the game goes CTD. Any ideas ?
I am using WinXP Home and UC is on Win95 compatibility mode.

JA2 generates an error log, where this is the cause:
Exact Error Message
"The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access."

Whole error log here , if anyone can understand it:

I just found out that the same thing happens to me in B9 ! One would think there's something wrong with the whole process of liberating a sector, but A9 and A10 were no problem...

This is WEIRD.

I deleted everything, did a new install of JA2 1.03 and Urban Chaos, applied MapFix and QuickFix, set to Win95 compatibility, and it keeps crashing in both sectors !!

EDIT:

Also, now when I want to go from laptop to main menu, the game totally freezes.

EDIT:

More freezing - this time when skipping intro animation.

I would really appreciate a manual how to install Urban Chaos, containing links to all necessary files (current version) and information about required/compatible version of everything that has anything to do with the game...
I searched for this but couldn't find any complete piece of information regarding HOW-TO-INSTALL...

sorry tomas , only ever installed and played through once , a few years ago , so no idea what problem is , any posts relating to installation mostly remark on tough install , just have to persevere unless someone is playing or played recently and replies :whoknows:

The whole thing's getting more and more puzzling ... Urban Chaos IS made for JA2 1.03, right ?

I tried it once again, this time on a laptop (made in 2000, so should be about adequate to the time of JA2) with Win 2000, imported a savegame from the problematic situation and - to my surprise - IT HAPPENED AGAIN !

I'm starting to wonder if there's a problem with my saved games...But except adding one gun and 4 magazines to one Merc using Jape, I didn't do anything out-of-the-usual with them.

I am growing very tired of this.

I think I'll just give up on this mod, even though it playd great for the 2 hours it worked. :-/

The problems don't have anything to do with faulty saves... I make a clean install of JA2 (tested, working) then install UC downloadable from jagalaxy.com aaaand gues what - the game keeps totally freezing upon pressing the "quit to menu" button or when skipping intro animation. WTH ?

Is there really no-one who can help with running Urban chaos on Win XP ?!

Where'd all the developers of this mod go ?

JA2 UC is a hex edited version of the normal JA2 and a lot of the changes they made were just shots in the dark. Change something and it worked? Great! No ideas of the ultimate consequences of that, though.

It was amazing work given they didn't have the source but its not supported.

BTW, I played from an install of the latest "original" ja2, 1.12, and had no problems. If you want to persevere perhaps you should try that instead of 1.03.

UC was made with 1.07 in mind. Clean install of JA2. 1.07 patch. Apply UC. Apply UC Patches. Enjoy. I've played UC many times and it's hardly ever crashed... certainly not the game stopping ammount you speak of.

Your problem doesn't seem map related. More IMP related. Which leads me to think either the quickfix wasn't applied correctly or it was corrupted:

Quote:

JA2UC QuickFix

This small patch will update your Urban Chaos modification with a few small fixes: replaces and makes obsolete Black Screen Fix, fixes the QUIT button bug, also fixes the black screen bug. In order to activate, you need to restart your game, unzip and place PROF.DAT into /Data/Binarydata folder. Replace old file.

Basically almost all your problems SHOULD be fixed if you replace the original faulty PROF.DAT file. Since PROF.DAT holds merc info, corruption in that area might trigger the IMP speech crash too.

Also, playing a savegame AFTER applying the fix won't work either. You'll need to start a new game. It's not UC's fault, it's how JA2 works.

And yes, JAPE can mess up your PROF.DAT too.
