Hi all,

I've released a new version of JAPE, the Jagged Alliance 2 Person Editor. The noteworthy change is that this version can use a modern Sun Java JVM, rather than the old and hard to get Microsoft JVM. So, it should be easier to get it working on your computer. Theoretically, this change should also let JAPE run on Windows Vista, though I don't have a copy around to try it out.

Also, I did a little work to make JAPE partially compatible with 1.13 save games (build 2085). It's now possible to edit mercenary attributes. However, item editing is not available.

http://www.duggelz.org/jape/index.html

Try it out. If you run into any problems, feel free to post here or email me at duggelz2@comcast.net.

Thanks a lot for doing this! Ever since I switched computers, JAPE did not work because it used to require MS Virtual Machine.

One question: For some reason I am having trouble getting the changes I make to "stick" (i.e., when I "save," the changes don't get reflected in the game).

I am playing JA2 ver. 1.12. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit), and I suspect that could have something to do with it.

Thanks again!

Moutarde,

I don't have a copy of Windows Vista to test with, unfortunately. If you send me a copy of your save before making changes, a copy of the save after making changes, and a description of the change you tried to make that didn't "stick", I could take a look.

Moutarde run the program as administrator (right click and use the Run as Administrator selection). It's more than likely UAC is blocking the prog from editing any files...

Hi
I know this game is getting very old with few people to support it.
But...

I tried to use JAPE 0.41 today on the latest 1.13

"Unable to load file"
"Save game version 123 not supported"

Is there anyone that can update JAPE?
or is thereany other editor around?

Hello johej, Welcome to the Pit
Wellll ... There's one editor around that will work with any version of 1.13 - it's called Visual Studio.

Thanks. Smile
I have played JA2 since the beginning, and still play from time to time.
It's wonderful Smile

So.. I installed Visual Studio yesterday.
But I have never used it before, neither do I know anything about programming...

Do you have any tips of how to do stuff.

I'd like to start a new game but with some nice weapons added from the beginning.
So I need to learn to add stuff to inventory of the characters...

Best Regards

Damn, I use that answers as a technically 100% accurate, yet totally troll way to get rid of people searching for save editors - you are the first to actually use it Smile
If you are about to start a new game anyway, you can look up the items in Items.xml and add them to a merc in MercStartingGear.xml or IMPItemChoices.xml (Data-1.13\TableData\~some subfolder thereof)

Just edit MercStartingGear.xml (IMPs have their own file). You can do this by hand or using the XML editor.

or

Edit the first map (add the items there) with the map editor.

No need for Visual Studio Razz

(edit. too late)

Don't use XMLE on latest unstable, it will muck up Flug's flashlights.
