I'll just write down a few observations and ideas, which could help you while playing

Mercs
  • More mercs is more tactical possibilities
  • Better mercs will cost more, but will perform better
  • Order of important skills: marksmanship, agility, experience, strength
  • Mercs without medical skill have a huge disadvantage
  • Autoweapons trait may proof useful, H2H and knives trait might come in handy *sometimes*
Weapons
  • Damage. Damage. Damage. Don't pick anything smaller than 6.8SPC. 7.62Nato is the caliber of choice
  • Autofire. what your weapon is missing in punch, it can make up with fire volume. Use autofire for anything under 10 tiles
  • If there is no chance of hitting a target & ur position is already revealed and there is no better use for the APs, use autofire.
  • Machine guns offer a lot of advantages, but they are slow to set up and to aim
  • make sure to buy enough ammo, so you can use autofire a lot
Tactics
  • Try to keep your team together. A separated merc can be killed more easily.
  • Always check your back.
  • Houses: if the enemy can't get in, you can't get out
  • if you see an enemy try to estimate if it is better to stay and slug it out, or if a hit and run will be the better choice
  • Heal mercs as soon as possible. Don't heal mercs, if it means getting the medic into danger
