Ok so my game was going ok until it started crashing. After I did what I could, i thought to install v1.13 patch to hopefully fixed that crash but it looks like it changed the whole version Sad I like the graphics and images and all. So, I started new game caz my saved games from previous version didn't open. I hired Nails as a merc and I found crawbar which ofcourse i want to keep on Nails but there is no room for crawbar to store??!! what the friggin thing??!! There is no room to store crawbar??!! What do I do??

Man, I had good 4 cities in the previous version. I lost all of that?

Which version of Ja2 did you play before patching? 1.13 is indeed a complete new version of JA2, with lots of new features and possibilities. Seems like you patched from 1.02 or 1.05.

First off: RTFM when downloading and installing something, you obviously missed that 1.13 is not a patch but more of a mod. Furthermore it sounds as if you encountered the new inventory when starting a new game (as it is default) an overview can be seen here.

But enough of that, as your goal seem to be to return to your previous game do this:
1. Install a new game from the disc (or however you installed JA2 in the first place)
2. Patch it up to the version you used when you saved your game, there's a few to choose from but I believe the CDs had 1.02/1.03 and other than that the most common version would be 1.06 and 1.07. In short, if you didn't patch your game don't patch it when reinstalling.
3. Move your savegames from the old savegames folder to the new installation.
4. Play. If the problems persists patch up to 1.07, I believe the savegames should be compatible with that. Do not install 1.13 as you won't be able to play your old saves! Hope that helps.

Google is a good way to find things but since I'm such a nice person here you go: http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/1962/Jagged+Alliance+2+1.07+Patch

Because you've mucked around with the exe file patching and unpatching and stuff. Even editing a single map that you haven't even conquered yet is enough to stuff-up a saved game. System restore to before you did silly things without reading the instructions first is the only way to get that particular saved game going again now I reckon. We've all done doh! things to JA in the past by mistake. Just be more careful and once a game is underway don't upgrade or patch or edit until that game is over, done, finished... Yes?

He was crashing before he updated to 1.13, he was updating to try and fix the crash.

1.12 had several bugs, and one in particular persisted in 1.13 until several months ago. Repeated save-load-save-load-save-load would eventually lead to a constant crashes roughly about the time you captured 4-5 cities, just before you're getting ready for Meduna. Granted 1.13 made them more prevelant and happen earlier...

Still you shouldn't patch a game while you're in the middle of it, right? I never did anyway. I always thought of it like time travel - doesn't work.

It doesn't matter that 1.12 was the highest official version. It had more bugs than 1.07 or fixed some things but broke others & is therefore not to be relied upon as a saviour. The Russian made 800x600 version of JA2 used 1.12 as a base but sfaik was as bug-free as it gets... wouldn't save your save game* but might be a better experience. What was 1.12 anyway? The Gold Edition or something?

* actually I'm not even certain of that; maybe it would. Got enough space to make a copy and try it?

Maybe you could try JA2 Stracciatella it's like normal Jagged Alliance, but with hundreds bugs fixes. Unfortunately, I don't know, if old saved games will work.

The version of the game that came with the 'gold' edition is 1.12.

Honestly, play with whatever version you want. The CD I have has version 1.03, and it works fine, to tell the truth.

@Jas, in answer to your question about solving the problem. You may want to go back to your earliest save, and physically delete the other saves. It's worked for me in the past, I just had to watch my save-reloading from that point on, I would maintain 6 or 7 different save files incase one got messed up I could try one that wasn't so far back. If you run into a repeatable crash, always try to do something different to mess up the saved random values, and sometimes that will work and get you past the save.

That was one of the biggest problems with crashes in 1.13, most of which have been fixed now. The save/load game code was corrupting savegame data.

I don't know if this is applicable here but if I ever save in combat and make a move (for example run up to a door and open it) and the game crashes, I try it again (same move) and if it still crashes I'll try something different after loading (like run up to the side of the door and crouch) and then save. Then I try to open the door again and that always seem to fix it. So I don't know if it's really the save that's broken, and it's still a nuisance, but heck as long as I can keep playing from there I'm good.

OK I find out the pattern of crashing. it seems to crash at one particular time, doesn't matter what I do, even if I just click the timer and let the time go by, it still crashes at that particular time.

YAY IT GOT FIXED!!!!!

I think it happened by accident and/or the suggestion here, this is what I did:

I deleted all the .sav files except the very latest one so I can continue my game. After loading that to play, the problem still presisted and thus you see my last post in the forum.

And then, out of frustration, I started a new game but the thought of starting all over didn't interest me much so quit the game.

And then I thought of trying my saved game one more time before I give up completely and guess what, it worked lol

So, I am assuming it prolly had to do with starting a new game but not sure, oh well. Well, I m going back to enjoy me game now and thanks for all the suggestions guys and not giving up on me lol.

The majority of the problems you experience can easily be fixed by letting the time pass in tactical view. Let's say your game crashes at 0702, then at 0700 you go into tactical view and let the time pass for 3 minutes and that will usually not result in a crash. Then when you have passed that time you can go back to strategic, save and continue your game.

Creating a new game as you did could possibly be another fix it as the random numbers may be changed, either way glad it worked out for you.
