OK, I built a release copy and replaced b008 on my web site with it.

BTW, while you are playing with this (PLEASE send me any problems you have) I'm going to start on the improved strategic AI. I have some evil plans. You will learn to FEAR the queen, especially you pansies playing on Insane! Bwah hah hah hah hah! :sadyellow: :rifle:

And no, I won't tell you about them beforehand. Experience the crushing defeat and be surprised.

Hi SpaceViking, is the ja2_release_SV_B008.exe a compile of the SVN 1109 or later? Meaning does it contain the changes you were talking about in #212456 - 07 April, 2009 11:30 PM:

Quote:
The translation of HAM to 100AP was a bit faulty at first, but has been fixed in the newest SVN.

I know your Web page says "Merchant data externalized", I am trying to figure out how the EXE fits into the SVN. My post #212453 - 07 April, 2009 10:55 PM was using the SVN 1104 were I still saw the first 4 aiming steps to cost 1 AP each.

It is built from the very latest code available as of a couple hours ago (which includes some HAM fixes).

You edit one of the xxxxxInventory.xml files as I show above. In your case to just change the dealer's cash. So to increase Tony's daily cash to $45,000 you would do:

0

45000

45000
45000
0

...etc. as usual...

The XML editor won't work with the new data because it doesn't know about it. You'll have to paste it in by hand.

Status report on strategic AI enhancements:

I ended up having to do a LOT of "infrastructure" work to support something I wanted to do and that took me many hours. It appears to all be working but the changes were so widespread I fear I may have missed something.

I added code for the queen to throw some surprises at the player but I overdid it (I triggered one of the surprises and got pasted by a rather overwhelming force) and need to rethink that. I've managed to keep the save files backward compatible (old saves will work with the new code but not the other way 'round.

You need to edit xml files with "notepad" or download "notepad++". Wordpad will not work correctly.

What you will find is

0
55

1
65

...etc...

You need to insert the ne stuff between the and the first so it looks like this:

0

15000

15000
15000
0

0
55
0

1
65

...etc...

Indentation before the and other such tags doesn't matter.

Please delete the files in the Data-1.13\TableData\Lookup-folder.

That "24/25"-message is a rather old one, the problem had been fixed in version 0.37, IIRC. It has to do with the medical cross silhouettes for some LBE-items.

The newer XML-Editor versions should set up those Lookup-XMLs by themselves again.

If that does not help, delete backend.dll and get a new one from the SVN-Server.

If you are using his latest project, then 'yes'.

The XML-Editor is not set up to handle that, yet. And it will not be until SV's project has been integrated into 1.13.

You can use it for most things, you just need to use the old dealer-inventory files while working with the editor. For playing you need to use SV's new files.

But if you want to change the dealer inventories, then you need to do that manually (Notepad++).

Yes, if you refer to editor crashes /and/ game crashes.

The very first XML-files could be changed with WordPad, but with the advent of the XML-Editor, Madd Mugsy had to change the coding of the files, and from then on WordPad changes stuff inside the XMLs in such a way that they are later unrecognizable to the game-code. The changes by WordPad are mostly unrecoverable.

But if the /game/ runs alright, then the XMLs should be mostly O.K. (e.g. if the changes by WordPad changed only text, and not XML-syntax).

Initial is what it is set to at start of game.

Retained is the % of the previous days $$$ that they retain.

Increment is what is added each day.

Maximum is the most they will keep after incrementing.

I did it that way so you could have a merchant slowly build up a fairly significant amount: set init and increment small with drain at some no-zero value plus max large

Or maybe someone who keeps a lot of cash after sales but it slowly drains away.

Or whatever.

BTW, I just put up 008a. It has the initial stuff in it for the enhanced strategic AI plus all the latest code changes from SVN. Right now all it will do is throw a surprise at you every once-in-a-while. The changes are more evident at higher difficulty levels and later on in a game. You can load any recent save game into it and it should work OK though you can't go the other way (saves it creates will not be usable with earlier versions).

You have to set

NEW_AGGRESSIVE_AI = TRUE

in the .INI to turn it on.
