Am I the only one who likes Buns?
All over this site I see remarks about how much people hate her.
The single thing I disliked about UC was that they replaced the great character Buns with some sort of Angelina Jolie-wannabe.

I mean who can not have a blast at her hilariously arrogant comment "Every day in EVERY way, I get better and better."?

You, me and Grunty... that's about it. I often use her. She ends up liking Sydney (unrequited I think). I like the accent; everything. Yum yum bunny buns!

Lol that line is a reference to The Pink Panther where ex-Police Chief Dreyfus (Herbert Lom) is trying to convince himself he is not insane and always wanting to kill inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers). From 'The Pink Panther Strikes Again' film Smile

Yeah, Buns is pretty cool. Maybe the most entertaining female character in the game.

I don't always use her (a little expensive to start and by the time I can afford her there are better choices) but I really like that one.

She's a funny character, but has too many problems with other mercs for me to hire her most games. Unless I am going for character issues for fun she doesn't normally make it Wink

Yeah, Fox is a great militia trainer and for very cheap. Come to think of it, about the time I am ready to hire Buns I usually don't because of her issues with Fox.

I wish there were a way to degree the levels of hatred between mercs, like for instance sometimes they leave if you just have a certain merc on your team too long but I also think it might be cool to have them just have a morale drop when said merc is in the same sector as they are or on the other extreme have a low possibility of actually attacking the merc they hate.

I know that is an awful amount of code for something that is typically just an annoyance for most players (and in fact was one of the only things that turned me off to the game when I first bought it). But it would be cool.

LOL me too, but if you somehow manage to get Lynx and Buzz in the same sector with guns (Pistols is best) I'm pretty sure they just break out fighting after a slanging match.

I could be wrong though...

I like Buns. She's got crazy MRK to begin with and is cheap. Also teaching (expert) (match her up with Ira while training Militia.) and the fun comments. Keep her to the endgame and let her shoot Deidranna and listen to her comment. Wink Also she and Grunty comes off well, and since Grunty is a good Jack-of-all-trades that's cheap for starters that's a good match. If you want an even four, add Igor to the group and you'll hear nothing but praise by them for each other. Bring Ira and Dimitri for a cheap but not useless team that let's you save a lot of cash for a long while.

"Hahahaha. I'm sorry. It's not really funny."

I normally hire Buns at the start, but she usually goes bye-bye when I have enough to hire Reaper. Though yeah, she's pretty cool since she's pretty much a female Grunty. It's just really her issues with others mercs and vice versa.

If she could work with more people, she would be a regular in my squad. Excellent all round skills, high marksmanship and a useful backup medic who can become a frontline medic with enough investment. And of course, a hilarious holier than thou attitude.

Started a new game on Insane. Hired Buns and few others. Was sort of counting on Buns to do most of the killing. Upon arrival a redshirt immediately opened fire on her, a solid burst from a machine pistol, and she caught few of the bullets with her noggin . 120-something damage. So... I've come to the conclusion that the game itself loathes Buns and punishes the player accordingly for hiring her.

I always hire Buns at the start, with Grunty and Igor she is the core of my first team. Barry and MD providing mechanic/explosive and medical support (they become efective in combat rather quickly too).
I like Buns comments ("Oh, we have benn joined"), Grunty's too.
The problem is I like to hire Fox too, so I have to hire Buns for the estimated lenght of the game (around 120-150 days) before hiring Fox, with the "drop all" option and selling items at 20% instead of 10%, money is not much of a problem.

In JA2 there aren't supercheap merc in the begin of the game,so Buns is a must:the cheap mercs(Biff,Flo,Haywire,Razor,Gasket and Gunmpy) also start with bad markmanship.
She is the Leech of JA2 with less markmanship and more medical skill.

Buns, Barry, Igor, Grunty is a top notch starter team. Add Thor & Ivan when money allows for the perfect North European / Scandinavian / Russian theme thing. Unstoppable.

All MERC people are cheap for a reason but most have at least one redeeming feature though in Gasket's or Bubba's cases great lines don't cut it after a while. They're just too damn dumb to learn much. Brighter mercs can overtake Gasket's repair speed just by learning on the job.

But Gasket can be invaluable in the beginning when money is tight and you want to fight rather than sit about repairing stuff.

As for Buns well, too stuck up for my liking and she doesn't get on with far too many of the other characters.

Ah well off to hire Buzz and Lynx Smile

Both are idiots, both are forgetful and both are great for leaving in a sector repairing thousands of items. I normally keep them both on for that as I can't be bothered to fire them.

I often take Gasket as repair monkey because I remember playing through the demo about thirty times, and more often than not he and Dr. Q were the only ones who survived because I kept them out of the thickest fighting.

There is one missing

Red doesn't like Danes fighting on his side and he doesn't like women in arms.

So Buns is a Danish woman...

I never had Buzz and Lynx going for each other's life only bad talk.

Necroing this thread, I love to have Buns in my starting team (guess where my nick comes from). She is the cheapest merc with 80+ MRK making her an excellent early sniper. And with WIS 93 there would be nothing she cannot learn within a few days.

Apart from that her comments are funny and the accent lovely. I also usually have Grunty as team leader (absolut bargin for level 3 and night ops). Add Igor and, as soon as you can afford it, Ivan to it and moral should always be good - provided you can keep them alive.

If it is a necro anyway. My very first play through (no mods, though it was patched) years ago it was with Buns, Blood and Hitman as the first three... they stuck with me till the end and have done so more often. I tend to keep her around because she gets up nicely in the 90's for markmanship, and I tend to take other people like Reaper later, and just keep Fox away from her. It never brought me a lot of problems and with the non-STOMP system she is a decent medic, good shot, and with her speed of training militia a definite nice defender.

Buns is excellent if you want someone who can just hit things right out of the gate. She is also one of the best mrks. trainers in the game, though her skill is eclipsed by the training skills of mr. sniper rifle.

She is also a passable doctor.

That said... on impossible mode, 10k for 1 merc is a lot.
I like to get Barry up front to get him started on his LONG road to extreme uberness.
Grunty has solid mrks and is, IIRC, slightly cheaper, and has better traits for most situations other than recruiting militia.
Bull is a must to prize fight from day 1.
Since I generally take drassen after chitzena and it's SAM site, I need to drop in steroid for a day with gear.

With all of these considerations, plus a low cost Igor who now has night ops AND stealth (he was fun even when he just had stealth), she has been replaced with other mercs.

If I had more beginning money, I'd definitely hire either her or fox earlier ... but it's one or the other even then, and again, end product, fox is better.

Marksmanship is just not the best skill to have as your big selling point, as it increases easily.
It's a shame, though, I really like her.
