The mod guide is a fantastic resource! It needs to be clearly identified and placed in a location that will attract every visitor to this forum! there has never been anything like this work done before in such a clear and concise manner. Placing this in a location where every person will see it will save countless questions and get people started playing and modding much sooner.

A response was sent immediately I received your e-mail. It was, however, returned as 'undeliverable', so I checked your given address and re-sent it. It was not returned, so I assumed you received it.
Regarding tileset editing.
Unless I included something in my editor manual, I was not aware of covering this subject.
You mentioned editing the strategic map. As such, there is no real working editor for this.
Best workaround is:
1) Extract 'Vanilla Strategic Map', which will be in .pcx format, to your desktop or working folder. Dragon unpacker is the best utility by far.
2) Extract your new Radarmaps, after creating your new maps, to desktop or working folder.
3) Get hold of GIMP2 graphics package. Excellent and free.
4) Convert your Radarmaps to .pcx format, with GIMP2.
5) Open your Vanilla Strategic Map and make sure it is 'layer 1' in GIMP.
6) Import, one at a time, your Radarmaps, resize (they WILL be the wrong size) and place into corresponding map co-ordinate box, overwriting the existing.
7) SAVE after every operation, just to be on the safe side.
Your Radarmaps are a 'snapshot' of what you have created when making a new map. It is a 'global' view, if you like !!
It is entirely possible that your terrain will not match, and your Strategic Map will look very wrong. There are several work-arounds for this, one involves adjusting lighting (temporarily) in your map, but is a bit involved and very time consuming.
The method I find the best, it to edit/blend your new Strategic Map with either GIMP or Windows Paint, at pixel level. Once you get the hang of this, it is quite fast.
Bonus: With the above, what you see is what you will get in-game.
My knowledge of tilset editing is limited to;
1) Creating new tiles with GIMP - then converting to .sti format. Note, you WILL have to experiment with light and dark parameters, as JA darkens what you initially believe to be correct. Doing this, you then have the problem of creating a matching .jsd - something I have no idea about, and I believe that there are no real explanations of, let alone anything that handles them properly.
2) Take an existing .sti that resembles (a bit) of what you are attempting, convert and alter with GIMP. Locate .jsd of altered .sti so that you have a matched pair of sorts. These can then be re-inserted back into a) Tileset folder, and b) into Data folder - cannot remember exactly where though.
Hope this is of help.
EDIT: Badongo appears to have removed my mod and editor files. This is probably due to no 'hits' for their specified time limits.

Hello Shedd 23, thanks for the info and welcome back. I am attempting to add to and refine your map mod. I am calling it an annihilation mod because i don't know how to add things like quests and stuff like that. there are so many new features available now that the game can appear quite different with new maps. I havent been trying to create new tilesets but simply custom tilesets. my example is the ship crane from Renegade Republic. I wanted to "steal" a few objects from RR to use in my mod but so far I have ruined two tilesets and a few more set.dat. I am hoping someone will update ja2tileset editor as the instructions are to cryptic for me to understand and the program does'nt seem to work for me. If you ever have any interest in my changes to your mod or if you would have any interest in collaborating on new features please let me know. As you can tell I can use a lot of help.
@ khor, Thanks for the tips. now I have even more programs to learn. I would like to distract you from your focus on SMP by inviting you to collaborate on my mod. this could be fun for you as it would allow you to experiment and use the new features without damaging your own mod. you could f*uck up mine all you want and we could both have a good laugh!
