A response was sent immediately I received your e-mail. It was, however, returned as 'undeliverable', so I checked your given address and re-sent it. It was not returned, so I assumed you received it.

Regarding tileset editing.
Unless I included something in my editor manual, I was not aware of covering this subject.
You mentioned editing the strategic map. As such, there is no real working editor for this.
Best workaround is:
1) Extract 'Vanilla Strategic Map', which will be in .pcx format, to your desktop or working folder. Dragon unpacker is the best utility by far.
2) Extract your new Radarmaps, after creating your new maps, to desktop or working folder.
3) Get hold of GIMP2 graphics package. Excellent and free.
4) Convert your Radarmaps to .pcx format, with GIMP2.
5) Open your Vanilla Strategic Map and make sure it is 'layer 1' in GIMP.
6) Import, one at a time, your Radarmaps, resize (they WILL be the wrong size) and place into corresponding map co-ordinate box, overwriting the existing.
7) SAVE after every operation, just to be on the safe side.
Your Radarmaps are a 'snapshot' of what you have created when making a new map. It is a 'global' view, if you like !!
Cool It is entirely possible that your terrain will not match, and your Strategic Map will look very wrong. There are several work-arounds for this, one involves adjusting lighting (temporarily) in your map, but is a bit involved and very time consuming.
The method I find the best, it to edit/blend your new Strategic Map with either GIMP or Windows Paint, at pixel level. Once you get the hang of this, it is quite fast.
Bonus: With the above, what you see is what you will get in-game.

My knowledge of tilset editing is limited to;
1) Creating new tiles with GIMP - then converting to .sti format. Note, you WILL have to experiment with light and dark parameters, as JA darkens what you initially believe to be correct. Doing this, you then have the problem of creating a matching .jsd - something I have no idea about, and I believe that there are no real explanations of, let alone anything that handles them properly.
2) Take an existing .sti that resembles (a bit) of what you are attempting, convert and alter with GIMP. Locate .jsd of altered .sti so that you have a matched pair of sorts. These can then be re-inserted back into a) Tileset folder, and b) into Data folder - cannot remember exactly where though.

Hope this is of help.

EDIT: Badongo appears to have removed my mod and editor files. This is probably due to no 'hits' for their specified time limits.

They are very good tips. I'd like to add that Blackdragon's JSD editor is the best one I know of. Also, I have made a few tiles by taking a picture of an object I wanted to make a tile for from Google Images then adjust the colour to look cartoonish and make any adjustments to make it fit the pixel size. But if you can find a few existing stis and cobble a Frankenimage from them this is a better way since you know the colours will match the game and will not leave you with unwanted transparencies due to something in your image being too close to the background colour.

It's cool to hear someone is still doing some real modding. I wish you all the luck.

Hello Shedd 23, thanks for the info and welcome back. I am attempting to add to and refine your map mod. I am calling it an annihilation mod because i don't know how to add things like quests and stuff like that. there are so many new features available now that the game can appear quite different with new maps. I havent been trying to create new tilesets but simply custom tilesets. my example is the ship crane from Renegade Republic. I wanted to "steal" a few objects from RR to use in my mod but so far I have ruined two tilesets and a few more set.dat. I am hoping someone will update ja2tileset editor as the instructions are to cryptic for me to understand and the program does'nt seem to work for me. If you ever have any interest in my changes to your mod or if you would have any interest in collaborating on new features please let me know. As you can tell I can use a lot of help.

@ khor, Thanks for the tips. now I have even more programs to learn. I would like to distract you from your focus on SMP by inviting you to collaborate on my mod. this could be fun for you as it would allow you to experiment and use the new features without damaging your own mod. you could f*uck up mine all you want and we could both have a good laugh!

@ Marko: N.Ops has new story elements and the Maps can be changed in the ini to Vanilla, Random, or new maps. [/quote]

That's why start sector wasn't the same every time. So in noptions.ini can I change this?

@Lockie: A fresh install is recommended for L2v35.

@Marko: Yes you can change what maps to use in the ini. for Night Ops.

Option set of Maps: 0 - Random 1 - Vanilla, 2 - Alternative
Maps = 0

It should definitely be in your JA2 N.Ops folder.

You will see a notepad like file called "noptions" (configuration settings) in the root folder. Double click to open and you will see th following:

That's odd, they appear in that order, with options missing?

I don't understand how that can be, can you tell me what version of JA2 you are using and how you installed N.OPs please.

I don't follow...

You shouldn't have a new exe, just double click the installer, you will have 3 options: Patch, restore, exit.

Select "patch" and then go to your JA2UC folder, select your JA2UC exe, press open and that should be it.

You can get rid of it by using the restore option.

I'll have a look at it later, didn't get a chance yet.

N.B. With filefront going down tomorrow it will play havoc with some posts in the guide. I'll fix them as needed, so if a link is down just report it here.

Thanks,

OMG Both arms of the law are here, left hat and right hat!

I'll be having another look at MFM 1.13 conversion soon. Was going to create a modified Items.XML so you can have the options of Normal (original MFM guns) and ToG (all MFM and 1.13 guns).

Now I finally got round to doing stuff again Smile

Open the download link on the left and then select which Map sets you'd like. Maybe someone can put together a package for them. If i get a chance i might take a look as it is a bit confusing as is.

If you could call that screen for B2B 'normal' !

That's the actual ingame Main Menu, the intro has a similar style. I found it original, it kind of has a graphic novel feel to it.

About the Screenies, if any modder wants to add screenshots to their mod let me know.

maybe this is a bit late but i just wanted to let you know that playing ham2.8 was really cool.
although i never experienced crashes, a few strange things occured... like civilians attcking enemies!!! or the fact of the target-aiming i know it should be more realistic but for example i used VSSK Vychlop with best attachments possible and still it was impossible to get a complete and secure aiming circle even in close distance... also i tried the game twice and never had a massive attack in drassen mine although enemies were standing just around the city... i even noticed that in my data 1.13 folder the "maps folder" is empty... is this normal? anyway great work... hope was of any help...

That's normal.

Mess around with the INI if you would like to see more realistic settings, there are lots of things you can do. Especially now with HAM...

On the same idea, could please our local sheriff and advertising star, MM himself, come by and tell us if his new hat fits him? Our tailor was kind enough to sew the old v1.13 badge onto the hat so every coding villan in town would know who's the boss.

It's about being part of the ol' bear strike force alpha delta gamma epilon tetra 6 pack.

It's a perfect fit. Wink
