It would be great if you upload also patches for JA2 and UB

The most used patches are already there, look at the first post to see where they are, if any Mod needs a certain patch i'll include it.

There's also the 1.13 conversion files for MFM but that's a complex install (too much so for some peeps I'm afraid) which is why Kaerar is/was making a one click install thing. I'll revisit all that 1.13 stuff once I've done what I'm doing because it needs some slightly different maps really. Or rather a different approach to the same maps. I know what I mean anyway. Smile

Hey Will,

I'll put up the 1.13 conversion instructions in the near future, i might leave it as a separate entry so as not to confuse people. Sorry if the instructions for MFM 1.07 are a bit long winded, there are a lot of files so i wanted to simplify it as much as possible.

No worries, i'm glad people are still interested in JA, from the files that i hosted myself there's a fair bit of action, goes to show people are still hungry for JA Mods.

I was thinking that a Mod 101 Thread would be a great addition, there are a lot of people that would love to create a Mod but don't know where to start. There is a lot of info out there but very random, i know The Scorpion did some work on How To's as well as other members, i think it would kick start a new wave of JA modding.

There are alot of ideas, people with knowledge, and tools floating around the Bearpit Forum but no one using them and it's all scattered. What if a list was created and then people in the know offered to fill the blanks. It could be just a matter of pulling an already existing thread and putting it into one coherent Modding Guide.

Sorry for rambling, just typing out loud...

@ Marlboro Man:

Hey man,

I know about those forums, and they are great, just not very user friendly. All the info is probably there already but involves a lot of reading and searching. I believe that if an amateur modder or someone with an idea for a mod could open a forum and have it clearly presented it would encourage people to get more active.

This wasn't a fully formed idea when i mentioned it above, just an observation after seeing how many people started playing foreign, old, or intimidating Mods when they were presented in an accessible fashion.

The rough outline i imagined was for a step by step guide to start a Mod and then at a certain point let people find out more about complicated Modding techniques in the forums.

The Bear's pit is a fabulous place for such a guide and i would hope such a guide would put some future Mods on the radar, the game is ten years old and people are still asking noob questions here instead of grabbing the game by the neck and shaking out a great Mod with all the cool new features.

There is a core team here including yourself doing great work and it would be a tribute to that work if members here could do something with it. It would be encouraging to read the forums here in one years time if teams/individuals were discussing what they managed to create rather than how to open Pro-Edit.

:whythis: Sorry, lol...didn't mean to turn this response into a manifesto... Wink

Smile I understand completely. That area is probably the best place to start something. Smile I have also wanted to try and put together "something" myself, but RL crap keeps getting in my way lately. So if your up to getting the ball rolling I am sure others will pitch in and add things also.

Off_Topic, If you could take the time to do this you would make everyones life much easier when it comes to modding or playing Ja2 1.13. Your organizing skills are superior to anything found in these forums. Anyone would greatly appreciate an organized database of "who, what, where, when and how". As far as I am concerned, being referred to an obscure thread of multiple pages just to find a simple answer is BS! Please do this project. many will be grateful.

Hey ho Off-Topic I don't want to criticise but that's not the way round I did it. Maybe it doesn't matter about the sequence but in case it does & from memory. Make a new clean JA2 1.13. Add the files you need from MFM 1.07 There is a list somewhere I think, if not get back to me. Add all the files in the conversion pack. That's it. Fire when ready and don't dabble with the ini unless you know what you're doing.

Hi Will,

This is the reason i asked about what procedure you recommend. The way i have it posted does seem to work & i imagine is the same thing.
Quote:

Copy the following files from MFM 1.07 into 1.13 Data:

Battlesnds

Faces

etc..

By this do you mean into the new JA2 1.13 Data or Data 1.13?

I'll give it another shot, but like i said, the items seem to get mixed up.

Edit: I put the first files into the Data folder and it seems to work better...

I could not find any B2B translation, the only good thing is Google Translate is quite good with German, you can use JA2edt to translate anything you feel you need to know...

Many thanks to you Off-Topic I've just downloaded PCM & Aliens, both of which I'd been meaning to do for ages. So long as neither are EXE dependent I might even adapt them for MFM world. Vengeance & B2B still to download on a quiet day when the boss is away I think. Get dire pop-up telling me "not to download coz it's naughty" anyway...

You could always create/download a .bin/.cue file and use daemon tools to run it, if you own a copy of a ten year old game i don't think it's an issue. There is a good torrent for JA2 gold on pirate bay which is normally well seeded. With that JA2/UB can be installed as many times as you want from your hard drive.
