Day 1 09:02 hrs

I am packed and leaving the rebel stronghold... yea more like a bunch of rats cowering in a cellar, wishing for cheese. Oh well enough of this shit hole, I better get moving if I plan to make Drassen before midnight.

Day 1 10:47 hrs

I arrived at a small farm outside of Omerta. The man living there offered me anything I could use around the place but he had nothing I could use or need. I took a quick nap until just after 11:00 hrs and headed off again.

Day 1 12:48 hrs

The man in the farmhouse had told me that a small patrol almost always came by this time of day along the road. I should have kept to the north but I had to see if I could increase my inventory and equipment before I hit Drassen. It was just like the man said a small 8 man patrol so I moved slowly and quietly until I spotted the first soldier. A yellow shirt standing near some trees about 20 paces away with his back to me. I crept forward to get a better shot and hoping I didn't make any noise, nor him turn around. I got lucky and when I was about 12 paces out I fired two rounds from my MP5, both of which hit him in the back and down he went.

Nobody heard a thing, so I crept into a small outcropping of rocks and bushes, and waited. I went on the move again and soon encountered another yellow shirt wandering through the rocks about a dozen paces away. Two well aimed shots into the chest and the yellow shirt was more of a crimson from all the blood leaking from the fallen body. As I approached the body to see what I could scavenge, I spotted another yellow shirt 20 or paces away. I moved slowly towards the soldier until I was within range and again put two rounds into the soldiers chest killing him with hardly a sound. I moved a little south and encountered 2 more soldiers standing near each other in the middle of the road. I took aim at one and fired a single round which hit the soldier in the back. He spun around and yelled out for me to surrender, but of course that was out of the question. Both he and his companion dropped to the ground and fired at me, both missed. Two more soldiers ran into view to the east of my position but I don't think they can see me among the trees. I fired at the first soldier again and killed him then squeezed the trigger and shot his companion but failed to kill her. She got up and ran off and the two newcomers, who I guess did see me, ran forward and drew their weapons but neither fired. I took aim and fired at one of them but the shot went right between both of them and not wanting to deal with two enemies this close, I fired a burst into one, killing her. The yellow shirt after seeing his friend cut down went prone and fired 3 rounds at me. Only one came close and it hit the tree in front of me and a splinter tagged me ( 1 point damage ). The previously wounded female soldier took off running again. I aimed and fired two rounds at the prone soldier and ended his life. The wounded female went back to crouch by her dead friend so I took aim and fired, the round ripped through her side and she collapsed in a heap of steaming flesh.

One more soldier left and I am afraid I will have to hunt him down. I found him on the other side of the road picking his nose and scratching his groin. I put this low life out of his misery with a shot to the back of his head and ended his life and the encounter.

I searched all the bodies and found little I could use but it was worth a shot. I did get a lot of 9mm ammo, now I just need to find a good 9mm SMG. If I stay on the road I will be at the edge of Drassen in about 3 hours, but I want to hit them from the north side at night. I was told by Ira that there is a covered holding area used for incoming freight at the north edge of the airport that I think will give me good cover. So I must decide, make a bee line for Drassen and keep resting as I go then try and stay hidden as I approach the freight area or travel up into the forest and spend an extra few hours traveling, that I could be sleeping. I take a quick cat nap for about 10 minutes and head off towards Drassen.

Day 1 14:30 hrs

I am now on the outskirts of Drassen and have come across a farm. I search the area and find a couple mags of 9mm pistol ammo and another crowbar, which is in better shape than the one I already have. I Think I will get some rest and talk with the farmer for awhile to work on my leadership skills ( practice ). After about 4:30 hrs of BS'ing with the farmer he and I both think I am getting better at telling people what to do. Either that or he is tired of listening to me and wants to get some sleep. I tell the farmer I will be gone soon and he tells me to be careful and watch out that there are a few elite soldiers at the Airport as well as the other town sectors. I tell him thanks and he heads off to bed while I prepare myself for the battle to come.

Day 1 20:02 hrs

I am now heading off to the Airport. I left the farmer $50 that may help out feeding his kid as it did not seem that his wife was still alive. I sometimes feel bad that the victims are often the civilians just caught up in civil wars.

Day 1 21:33

I arrive at the airport, drop into a crouch and quietly work my way along the northern edge of the airport fence. When I get behind the freight building, I spot a gray shirted soldier standing near a pair of jeeps I take careful aim and fire off two rounds, both of them find their marks and the elite goes down. Silent and deadly, no one seems to be the wiser. I move up and cut a hole in the fence and move next to the back wall of the freight building. I slowly move close to the corner but not so close as to be seen and wait. A few tense moments go by and I see a red shirt approaching from outside the fence. I draw a bead on the mans chest and let off a burst. The rounds hit him, tearing him apart and he goes down in a pool of blood. I wait a few seconds and another red shirt comes around the corner right in front of me, where I interrupt him, A quick burst to the mans head leaves me splattered with blood and brains as his head explodes into a mass of gore. Then a gray shirt steps out a half second later where I interrupt him as well, another burst to the head leaves him in the same condition as his buddy. A lull descends upon the scene and I take a quick look about. I pick up a SIG pistol and some more 9mm Glaser rounds, which at close range, with no helmet, to the head can be devastating.

I wait, and wait, and wait some more. I move back outside the fence and check out the dead soldier for better items but nothing good is found. I continue west and then south keeping to the trees that line the roadway until I am about even with the second of the three small houses. I hear a sound to the west and move towards it. I spot a red shirted female soldier about 12 paces to the east just on the other side of the road. I can see she is carrying a machine pistol in her hand, but does not appear to be wearing body armor nor a helmet. I aim my MP5 and fire off a burst, hitting her in the back, killing she without a sound, she falls silently in the grass. I need to keep moving so I can pick the enemy off a couple at a time and spread out the kills so they wont know I am alone. I move over to the dead body, to check out the machine pistol, and find a Skorpion in terrible condition. I guess I could club someone with it, or toss it like a rock to make some noise, neither of which are worth me picking up this piece of junk.

I head further south and keep to the trees hoping to spot another wandering target. I don't have long to wait as I spot another female red shirt most likely wondering why her friend had not yet returned. I can see this one is not wearing armor, nor a helmet either, but I don't have a good enough angle to hit her with a burst. I take careful aim and fire two rounds, both impact her chest and she collapses on the ground. I move to the fallen female and she too was carrying a piece of junk. I can understand getting poor quality weapons, but not maintaining them is just sinful. Moments later a red shirted soldier pops out from a group of trees right into my line of fire. My morale is peeked and my line to the target is perfect, the MP5 barks out a quiet burst of lead and the man falls on his face, most likely never knowing what hit him. I think someone saw or heard him fall, or maybe they saw my muzzel flash, because I feel someone closing in on me. I am really exposed, crouched in the middle of the road, right next to a dead soldier, hell I need to move, NOW. I hear movement from three separate directions, crap they know where I am. OK I take the path of least resistance and move northeast back towards the small houses and the fence. I hope my camouflage, high agility and dexterity will help me get out of this. I keep moving and as I near the fence, three shots ring out from behind me, two of which hit me in the back, doing moderate damage ( 22 points ). I don't even have time to turn around as a burst from another soldier peppers me with lead ( another 19 points of damage ). No more shots ring out, but I am bleeding badly. I can't run with my TIMS pack on so I drop it and make a made dash towards the fence and some trees. Another burst is heard and a couple rounds pass really close to me but none land. I continue my sprint to the trees and duck behind the closest one. I cant even turn around yet, but no shots are fired so I quickly pull out my first aid kit and start bandaging my wounds. I manage to bandage up myself and realize I am in deep shit. I am going to have to get real lucky to get through this alive. I put away the first aid kit and redraw my MP5. I go prone and crawl along the fence line to the south hoping to backtrack behind my assailants. I make it to the corner of the fence, go back into a crouch, and head across the road. I make it to a small grove of trees and spot a red shirt in the intersection of the roadway where it splits and goes south or east. He is about 12 paces away crouched looking where I had been. Just what I was hoping for. I fire a burst into his back and drop him like a rock. No movement is heard so I move forward and search the body. What a find he was carrying an almost new Med Kit, which I quickly snatch up.

I move northwest across the intersection and into the trees again hoping to find my other abuser. I move to a small group of trees and scan the roadway where the other soldier had to have been. He's not there so I continue north. I get to the roadway where it heads west towards the farm I stayed at, and I begin to cross the road to go back to the freight building area. I get about half way across the road when I hear that damned bark of an SMG or Machine Pistol. My side erupts in pain as two more rounds tear into me ( doing another 11 points of damage ). I am hurt bad ( health down to 23 ) and need to retreat if I can. I turn and see the soldier about 9 paces from me, I can tell he is smiling at me. I cant take any more punishment and I can't run with my limited stamina, I have no choice, its do or die time. I lift my MP5 and figure this is it, I flip the selector over to full auto and squeeze the trigger. The MP5 belches lead and 3 rounds hit the target and he drops dead. He wont be grinning at me anymore. I pull out my first aid kit bandage my wounds and limp my way back west to the farmhouse and the farmer who was nice to me.

Day 1 23:57

I make it to the farmhouse and let myself in. I make my way to the bedroom and with the farmer looking on I start reading a helpful booklet that came with the Med-Kit and try to doctor myself up. I go in and out of sleep, while doing my best at doctoring myself, and with the farmers help I get the rounds pulled out of my body. Thankfully I was wearing my Kevlar vest or I would have been dead. I am also glad I took out that patrol earlier or I would not last long. I stayed at the farmhouse for two days healing up. I got ready to head out and the farmer smiled and said,

Day 3 - 22:14 hrs

I grab my laptop and the satellite link and connect to the web. Bobby ray's a Merc's best friend, delivery to almost anywhere in the world of the best equipment money can buy. I set about deciding what is my priorities are and how much of the 28K+ I have in my account to cover my purchases, I am going to spend. My list grows as I consider my current situation. Night time is my best hope of pulling this mission off alone, so I first pick out a Vintorez and some heavy 9 x 39mm ammo. According to BR's the VSS comes with a PSO-1 scope but that won't do for me, so I order a PSO-3 as well. I also pick out some AET ammo, and a reflex scope for my MP5. I buy a Dyneema helmet and vest, and a pair of Zylon combat pants. A new Gen III NV goggle and extended ear round out my purchase. The cost of all this gear with overnight delivery... $20,126. No one said this was going to be easy or cheap to pull off.

I sit down and start training some locals as militia, as well as sell off the things I picked up from the dead soldiers. I figure if I have some back up at the airport I can move out and take out the SAM site that is supposed to be nearby. One of the guys over in the repair hanger told me about a pilot that flies choppers that has been hiding out somewhere nearby. Maybe if I talk with the locals around the area I can figure out where he is hiding, and if I can take out the SAM site I might have some long range movement options.

So I train the militia and take cat naps every couple hours so I can always be at my peek performance as well as wait for my BR's shipment to arrive. I hang out by the freight building and around 11:00 hrs on day 4 the shipment arrives. I put on my new equipment and outfit the VSS with the PSO-3 and the LAM from my MP5. I set up the MP5 with the last of my standard 10mm ammo and the new reflex scope as well as keeping the suppressor installed. I continue training militia waiting for nightfall so I can assault the town sector to the south.

All you have to do is to find a good place to host them and use the "real" image link (not thumbnail or hotlink). There's also a button that does this, it's the third from the right in the reply screen.

Thanks Cougar for answering for me, Once I found out what I had to do it was very simple. Oh and by the way TinyPic does not have the limitations that Imageshack does and they are free and fast. You can also resize your images for display to the web/e-mail/boards/etc and they create all the codes for you.

Thanks gpmg for the encouragement.

To all you others out there reading this posting I really do want to hear your opinions and input / questions. That is why I am doing this, I like the feedback.

Now on with the story...

*****NOTICE*****

I want everyones opinion on this question. I started this adventure as a solo job and will keep it that way, so the question is...

Would you think It would be acceptable to use Ira, Dimitri, etc and others as they turn up as trainers and workers but not as Controlled Combatants? This basically means the training of militia and repairing of items. Auto-Resolve would be used if they happen to be in a sector with the militia. I am not sure how to handle things if Loner happens to be in the same sector as well. I will let all of you out there determine this. I will not post anything else until I get a good representation of your opinions.

The only reason for this question is to get the game to move along at a faster pace and so Loner is not stuck in Drassen just keeping the airport secure. I think it is logical that the rebels would help training the militia etc since it is afterall their country, bubt it is up to all of you.

SO LETS HEAR YOUR OPINIONS....

I'd say 'Yes'.

Although having 'rear echelon support' gives you an edge in terms of reduced downtime, the game progress is still chiefly driven by the actions of Loner. Actually, you should use all of the 'freebies' for support. I'd even include Shank, so long as he was only escorted as far as Estoni for the fuel deal with Jake (treat him as an 'escorted PC'). Maybe not Hamous though, he requires a paycheque and there's no quest associated with picking him up, unless you count getting the ice cream wagon as a quest, I mean, he did steal it. Wink

So I guess you could have:
Ira
Dimitri
Maddog
Dynamo
Carlos
Miguel

as trainers and support people. Or maybe you could restrict yourself to only the RPCs that are in the rebel faction.

I know that lots of folks like to solo, but the few times I've tried it I got bored/frustrated with the exceptionally slow progress and battles that lasted forever. Having a handful of support people lying around might prevent the game from crawling.

Normally I'd say "Do -everything- solo". Sometimes during my solo games I wondered if it was right to even escort and employ Skyrider... Anyway, IMP only for fighting and the rest for support jobs? Interesting idea. You could tweak the militia training settings if it's too painful, however as Loner hits level 10 and LDR has soared, it gets easier. But training militia is still going to take a major chunk of his time.

My actual stand: Do everything solo. For now. Employ Ira & Co. in another run... Smile

Hmmm , I'm interested in seeing how far you get and how fast , so for me , solo !
Should you bother with holding cities ?
Jason Bourne would do it all himself , with the help of a good woman , so , get Ira, see how much she drags you down :/

I'll say Rebels only. If you don't have the early rebels patch you'll only get Ira and Dimitri quickly anyway. Carlos and Miguel will come much later, if at all. Just remember they're rebels and should be equiped as such; little to no armour and if armed at all (if you are going to use them for fighting - at all) restrict them to battlefield pickups in the AK range.

Ok after almost 2 days and only 5 responces I will continue alone. I was not intending to take or hold cities, I only really need to hold the airport and SAM sites. This will allow mobility which is the key in any battle plan. I would have left Ira and Dimitri at the airport to constantly resupply the militia as they were attacked and killed so Loner did not have to constantly go back and forth and spend days of time each time a battle in Drassen occured. So unless you and others have a change of heart, so to speak, I will now continue the Adventures of Loner in Arulco.

Also please note I am going into the hospital tomorrow morning at 5 am for a surgery, so it may be a day or two before I post, after todays posts that is.

To gpmg

Thank you and yes it is a routine surgery as surgery goes... it is for a worthless gall bladder. As one of my doctors said ... the reason people have gall bladders is to send surgeons kids to collage. It will be an outpatient surgery and be done laproscopically, meaning only one small inch long incision. I should be mobile and up working again in a couple days albiet with some pain. So I will most likely be at home playing JA2 and waiting for something new and better to come along... yea right.

I have close to 700 or so PC games all legally purchased by me from the 1990's to now and I get bored after beating them all so easily. I keep coming back to JA2 where I dont have to have reflexes like a cat, and try of make decisions in a RTS game that become a lesson in the ignorance of gaming AI. Fallout 3 was a complete waste of two days time, the story and progression of the game was terrible. My son started laughing at all the screw ups the developers made and how so many people and magazines are touting this as the best game to date, what crap. Oh well back to writing and playing so I can get the next chapter out to all of you.

Headshot,

If recruiting Ira and the others will make the game (and the reports!) more fun, do it. There is no point of having it tedious just for the sake of playing it pure solo.

Good Morning Arulco!!!!

This is your host Headshot, talking to you from radio station WMRC, in beautiful sun drenched Arulco.

The people out there in radio land have been kind enough to let me bend their ears for some days now, so I thought I would send you all a mental an image of that good old boy the Loner. So you can see how he has been progressing so far. If you have any questions please feel free to write me a note, send me a card or letter, just don't send me any of those funeral flowers that are getting so popular these days.

As you can see Loner is moving up in the world of hired killers with 200 kills and a 72% hit rate not too bad.

So lets hear from all of you out there and give me some feedback, so little old me, your fine radio host Headshot, has some things to think about, comment on, and / or just deal with, besides the ongoing Adventures of Loner in Arulco.
