Don't know, maybe try to unpack the original mod, copy the "noptions" file from there and paste it into your ja2 folder.

I threw up a newer full translation (Edit)version .03, after this one it will not be necessary to start a new game to see changes as i have translated all the proedit files...

Form now on there will just be the odd .edt file which will just update the info of a current game.

I have also included some info on the mod and the ini...

Not at the moment Lockie, i had a look at the Night OPS exe and its one ugly beast.

I want to make it playable in English first and then worry about issues that are not vital to run the game, the start up/load/save screens are the same layout as regular JA2 so i can't see people having too much trouble... i mean do you even think about what you are pressing when you load or save a game in English? I imagine it is a reflex action for most people.

I definitely plan on translating the on screen messages like sound from the east etc... but it's not the easiest thing to do.

What will be added soon:

Civilian speech bubbles
Enemy taunts
Bobby Rays item descriptions
New merc speech. (having trouble with this as the translations are fairly obscure...pink elephants??

If anyone notices something out of place or what the "Bron" does let me know.

Edit:@ Lockie

What did you make of the new loadout?

@Marko:

1.0b was the final test version of Night OPs, 1.0 was the full release in November 2008 and a patch to 1.1 was released in January 2009.

I named the latest translation .03 as i had uploaded two previous versions, to avoid confusion.

1.0 has most of the features of the final test, all of what you mentioned actually, if you look at the first post in this thread there are some mod details.

Hope that clears this up.

Yes the full mod is 1.0, i wouldn't call it a full translation just yet, more a work in progress, at the moment you should be able to enjoy the game to the end without any problems.

I have yet to translate the new recruitable mercs speech, i'll probably do that this evening along with civ speech and Bobby Rays item descriptions.

That shouldn't be, i pretty much copied the layout of JA2, most mercs should have a Flak Jacket at least. Maybe i uploaded the wrong Prof.Dat file with version .03 of the translation, i'll have a look later.

Lol, sounds like you're planning a stag party in Arulco not a coup...

With the new Prof.Dat file, if you a start a fresh campaign you should see the adjustments. I definitely got rid of all the armour leggings and gave them flak jackets and the proper ammo (i missed ice & raven)

New translated files available,

Bobby Rays
Civilian/Enemy Speech
Fixed a few items.

See first post in this thread.

Edit:if anyone is starting a new game, you should open Pro edit & give ice .40sw ammo instead of the .45 and raven should have the AUG Para.

Just had a quick glance at translated edt files and noticed that at least one do not match. In mail.edt must be few new letters, one from RIS (appendix to the standard RIS report) and a few letters from Sergei Gromov, new RPC. I just wonder what would happen when game would decide to send them Smile

At the moment it's still a fairly rough translation, i don't speak Russian so the new e-mails were something i was going to work on later. If you know the numbers of the new E-Mails that would be a big help.

That would be cool, it was very tedious going through all of the e-mails in cyrillic when most of them were the originals anyway. If you could let me know which e-mails are sergeys i'd appreciate it, i'd like to have a look myself.

P.S. Are there many new E-mails? It seemed to me there were only a few...

@ Coolberg,

I have a bit of free time this evening and would like to view the e-mails you pointed out. I knew there were e-mails from sergey but could not find them easily. If you get the chance, could tell me there numbers in the e-mail edt file.

Cheers...

@ wolf00

Thanks for the support, still a work in progress, the finished translation should hopefully be fairly complete.

I dont know where to see the number of e-mail, so i would name them in sequence as they go after last e-mail from original JA2 in the end of email.edt.
1. Almost the same mail from Kingpin, but he also told you that he has took one of your mercs as a hostage and will kill him if you would not return money.
2. Mail from Sergei Gromov, he ask you to meet him in Arulco.
3. Mail from Sergei Gromov, he say that he wasted time waiting you and now leaving Arulco.
4. Appendix to report from RIS, whith information about Deidranna's airborne assault forces.
5. Mail from Bobby Ray where he informs you that he just lost a big contract with Arulco's army, but dont regret this as he hate such customer, and now he can tell you details of this contract: full equipment for airborne unit.

New version @ .04 (See first post in this thread)

Thanks to Profound the new NPC's speech has been mostly translated.

Polished off some items etc..
All new e-mails now translated and functioning.
Start screen now in English.

Minor changes to prof.dat that won't be seen in a current game.

Getting there, a few more thing to do.

I'm having a bit of trouble with the exe so that might not be in the finished translation but overall everything is pretty much finished, it's definitely playable in English.

What i am hoping for is that people play it as it is now and can tell me about any mistakes or if they have a better translation for something.

Help Needed!

I have tried a good few times to get my head around the Night Ops exe but it has proved quite tricky, i can't read cyrillic so if anyone can and would be interested in helping out by hex editing some text files such as the Head/Torso, Drection of sound texts that appear in the tactic screen along with some other lines that would be great.

No worries, it would be nice to translate them though.

I got the chance to play through Night Ops for a while and i must say it's very enjoyable. Even though it follows the same story line as vanilla there are enough new plots and additions to make it all seem fresh.

Just a few notes on gameplay:

A Merc needs a medical skill of 80+ to heal a patient.

Only Mercs with the teaching skill can train militia (The training itself has been sped up)

Holding alt over an enemy gives you the % chance to hit.

Some guns require you to be strong enough to use them.

The maps are either original/random/new this can be set in the ini.

The jeeps/tanks can move around the map...you have been warned!
