I'm sure at least a few people have had it happen to them - your mercs are wandering near the edge of a sector when an enemy group moves into the same sector and that set of enemies magically gets the first turn and kills your group of expert mercs with several hundred .38 caliber hollowpoints to the sternum.

Anyway, this happened to me once at the San Mona mine sector - After picking up Joey I was heading off to the bottom left corner when an encounter of 32 or so elites moved in and instantly killed my whole team. Note that this sector is unique in JA2 for one overall reason - one of the sides of the map has only 10 accessible tiles, but still counts as a side you can 'leave' or 'enter' from - this applies for enemies too.

With this in mind, I skipped Joey and set up a little pre-emperative suprise instead.

Having had a run of luck with explosives so far, I had a few HMX and TNTs and a mortar shell from Cambria - not to mention a big load of MK2 grenades. Taking all of these, I put a nice, liberally spread carpet of explosives over the very small 'entrance' area that the elites had used last time.

Finally, I had my merc throw a minigrenade at the pile and hit time compression whilst it was floating in mid air.

Ultimately, the net result was simple - the instant the flood of elites entered the sector, the minigrenade tapped one of them on the head and then set off roughly one hiroshima's worth of IEDs. The entire unit was promptly became unstuck and ended up as crunchy burnprints, and my teams' morale shot up to full and seemingly stayed there for the rest of the game.

As did my own.

Oh wow. That's just awesome lol.
I had a slightly similar experience at Drassen airfield. I had just discovered using mortars and had set up two mortar men next to the shipment building.
I had shadow, and Ivan (Who had a face paint set so his camo was 100 as well) sneak up next to the entrance of the airfield.
All 32 red shirts were massed in front of the gate.
2 or 3 mortar shells later and they are all either dead/dieing or critical.

I like your methods Dagon :transform:, you should have a look at Headrock's new additions to HAM 3.2, he has taken steps to counteract what you have described.
