I have been creating a map for Sector A16 (one of the many sectors that isn't defined in the usual JA2 map, withing maps.slf).
I am now wondering how to update the Maps.slf file, so that this sector will be playable (or at least testable, at least at first).

Sorry, should mention, JA2 1.13. Using MapEditor that comes with it.

there's no need to merge a custom made map back into the slf. just put it into the /maps folder and it will in principle be read be the game.

depending on what version of ja2 you'll be using to test the map, you may have to adjust xml's or map.bin to access a16 without cheating.

And yet, it won't load, I start up a new game, and you can't move into that sector at all.

I'll have a look in the XML's, and see what's there, I suppose. I can't find a map.bin. Are you sure about the name?

if you have xml's, then map.bin wouldn't work anyway because xml's means 1.13 mod

have a look at the unfortunate misnomer than is data-1.13/tabledata/movementcosts.xml and make your sector available. Might be tricky if the sector is edgeofworld but if it's only impassable than you can change that easily. there is certainly a wiki somewhere for movementcosts.xml in case you're new to it, or just ask back in case it isn't working straight away

Thanks for that, I have looked at movementcosts.xml, it's fairly self explainatory, thanks to the help text at the top of the file.

Yes, A16 was considered edge-of-world as far as A15 & B16 were concerned, and A16 considered EVERYWHERE to be edge-of-world. I have adjusted file to allow transit.

I also had to go in sectors A15 & B16 via map-editor to ensure an entry point possible on the West & North respectively. Editing these sectors has allowed me to confirm in-game that I CAN edit existing sectors to adjust them, as I was able to see adjustments to them (reducing volume of trees on western border).

However, No movement into sector is allowed, still.

I was only wanting to use one of these other currently unused sectors, to avoid touching any existing sectors, to avoid touching anything campaign-ish. But, I suppose I can use an existing sector. This is all a learning experience, anyway, I am merely trying to figure out how things work in 1.13.

OLDNOOB - -> I'm not totally familiar with the local Acronyms as yet, what does the Acronym PM mean?
