I like Napalm and Shark from the first post too.

@ OT I think the links for the Sarge, Napalm and Shark are a bit borked. They link to your mediafire uploads area and Shark is Face1.rar. None of the others appear listed other than Dude.

Edith: looks like IMP1.rar is Sarge.

For anyone looking for new IMP portraits or just lazy, I put together this "Imp" package for a game i was playing, also included is an alternative "Ira", if you don't like her, just delete the 59 .sti in each of the Faces Folders.

Artists: Sinclair, Kaerar, Calu.

All with Eye/Mouth coordinates.

IMP Redux

5 Replacement Male IMPs

2 Replacement Female IMPs

1 New Ira Pic

When unpacked, just drop into your JA2 1.13.

*Also included is Kaerar's Sam Fisher "Convict", if you would like to use it, copy it into your JA2 1.13 Data folder, it will replace the Sartana Imp profile.

You need STI-Edit, it has buttons to import from bitmaps (pic by pic) or you can store a pic via CRTL-C and then insert it into the correct place via STI-Edit.

You should get STI-Edit and have a look at the existing face-files first, to get a feel for it.

Thanks, and I have downloaded the sti-edit,
it is in german languange, no big problem since I figured out more or less the function already by the icon or trying to click them.

About the naming system, how to name new custom photo, is there a list of which number represent who, and how to add photo selection for main character?
or is there a possibility to add new merc too?

sorry eventhough I joined this place already for sometime, I dont know anything about JA modding.

BTW, I also edit another photo again
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/Navetsea/kath.jpg

and this is the big portrait of my first set, hpefully the bg is matching with other ja2 photo

Sorry, a modder will need to answer this, because the modders know better about adding/replacing characters.

My guess is that you will need to replace an existing face (or maybe not if the Virtual File System can take care of that...), because the filenames need to be the same to be tied to a given merc/RPC/NPC-slot.
And then there's the problem of adjusting the eye/mouth coordinates...

Thanks,
today I tried to convert them into smaller sizes photos, 33faces and 65faces both has different proportion in its WxL dimension, and possibly I also have to re cut the eyes and mouth again using existing portrait as template (easy but tedious activity, lol).

I managed to convert all your images to STI format as I like the look of this character. However for some reason the talking and blinking anims are completely messed up (which I don't understand...I copied the dimensions of the IMP I was replacing exactly and made everything the same size).

Is it possible to make every frame of the STI files as just the main face for the 1st frame, and just transparent frames for the rest in order to create a non-moving face image?
Not the best idea, but I'm not getting it to work right. There must be some other step involved that I'm not aware of.

Anyway, if anyone wants the STI files for the above and think they can correct my mistakes; let me know and I'll upload them to rapidshare for people to download and fix.

About the naming system, how to name new custom photo, is there a list of which number represent who,

You need to look in Proedit for this. Proedit is contained in the data 1.13/binarydata folder. It is pretty self explanatory what number corresponds to which merc. Theses numbers are used for almost every reference to a character in the game and are contained in the upper left corner of the proedit screen. Also of interest is the xy coordinates of the mouth and eye 'cutouts'. This is important if you want to make eyes and mouth cutouts that animate correctly. The x-1, y-1 coordinate pixel is the upper left pixel of any image so to make a cutout corresponding to x-10 y-10 you have to go 10 pixels from the left and 10 pixels down. This will be the location of the upper left pixel on your cutout.
Ask a question if that is confusing.
Navetsea
and how to add photo selection for main character?
or is there a possibility to add new merc too?

You will see the IMP mercs faces in the 200s in the faces folders. Just look at them in sti edit and find the one you want. The corresponding proedit entries are 51 - 56 which are named pgmale and pgfemale.

Navetsea
sorry eventhough I joined this place already for sometime, I dont know anything about JA modding.

There is actually a good German forum that still caters to conventional modders. I think it is called Ja Basis. But feel free to ask whatever question you like here as well. Those of us who enjoy doing this have no problem answering questions from other enthusiasts.

This stuff looks really cool. I liked the first one the best because I like faces that look like the original Ja2 style best and that one fits nicely.
It's really cool to see quality work.

I managed to extract some faces from the game "The Fall Last Days of Gaia".
After a lot of colour adjustment and teadious pixel fiddling, I finally managed to produce something presentable.

State: 15 fully animated Portraits with eyes and mouth coordinates (bigface.sti as well as 48x43, 31x27 and 15x14)

One portrait is a recoloured version of the last male imp portrait. The new version has a more "Plisskenesque" look

Example:
http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/5531/laptops.png

The portraits can be downloaded here:

I bought The Fall the day it was released. And I started to mod it from day one. Technically I didn't had a choice, because back in the v1.0-days you had to write parts of the code yourself in order to use basic features. I even became a betatester around v1.6, because I published missing code pieces in the silverstyle forum. Do you play the german v1.10? Because that's the only version that has finally all the features working properly (and a removed copy protection).

And yes, I will do more portraits. In fact, I have all PCs extracted, if I am not mistaken. The files with the character data have often different names than the characters in game. I remember that "Luise" is called Agnes in game and "Jordan" is Butch, so it can be frustrating to find the correct files. The problem is, that I can't find my CDs anymore and all I have is a fucked up install of what is v1.65beta I think. I found it in a backup of my harddrive, that I made at some point in 2005/6.

I'm just taking a break right now, because I screwed up some other portraits without noticing. But yeah, I will do some more portraits soon.
