No, that's the old (first) version. Wink If you look at my old post, you'll see that I edited it and the picture showed my second version.

I'll upload my newest version (3) soon.

That's not Anton Chigurh, it's Nicolas Cage after a major drinking binge (Leaving Las Vegas...).

Good to hear you are still about Kazuya.

They all have a specific slot they occupy due to the requirements of JA2. Changing slot requires changing coords of Eyes and Mouth otherwise you get odd reactions and even lockups/crashes.

Okay my little Padawans, you showed great patience. So here is your reward:

4 fully animated portraits all in 90x100 for npcs, 48x43 for mercs as well as 31x27 and their bigfaces.
I drew Anton Chigurh all by myself with the help of a photo as template.
The other 3 portraits are based on pictures from the game Fallout Tactics. The original pictures were in a monochrome greenish style, so I had to work quite a lot, but it was worth it. I can say without hesitation, that these are the best portraits that I have done so far. I'm especially proud of how "Boomer" turned out(the guy on the left side). The guy in the middle is "Blythe". I'm not totally satisfied with him, because his skin colour is a little bit too light. But whenever I darken his picture and convert it to STI, the palette gets messed up. The black guy on the right is "Strom" and he was the first, which I converted to STI.

all fully animated and in 106x122, 90x100, 48x43, 31x27 and 15x14.
The four faces in the uper row are based on grayscale character portraits from fallout tactics.
The first three characters in the lower row (beginning left) are taken from brigade 7.62 high calibre all resized and recoloured (slightly). The last portrait is Dale Earnhardt Sr. aka "The Intimidator", which I made with the help of a photo.

This time I have only three new pics, but I hope I can make more soon.
All three are taken from Brigade 7.62 high calibre. As usual I just recoloured, resized and animated the the pictures.

I was told recently, that there were some pixel anomalies in my first npc facepack. The reason for this was, that I had originally pasted bitmap pictures into the sti files that were not reduced to 256 colours. I noticed that mistake and remade the sti files and they worked out fine. But being the idiot that I am, I put the old sti files into my facepack (Yes, you are right. Shame on me.) and didn't notice it until I was told. So if you had some pixel glitches, please accept my apology. I deleted the old file and put up a new one. You can download the "new" pack #1 here: http://www.mediafire.com/?tjtkjmayw5m

hi guys

stupid question:

i was able to figure out how to swap the faces in the faces folder in the JA directory. However, the coordinates for eye and mouth movement are screwed and I've been reading this topic up and down and tried the search a few times but i cant find a post that describes how to adjust these coordinates. I have the coordinates for each portrait in test files, just nowhere to put them into.

Anyone know how to fix them?

current 1.13:
Check "\Data-1.13\TableData\MercProfiles.xml"

If you use older version of 1.13:
Go to your "\Data-1.13\BinaryData\" There is an exe file called PROEDIT. When you start this program, it will open prof.dat, where you can enter new mouth and eye coordinates. If you use difficulty based prof.dat (check your ini "Data File settings"->"USE_DIFFICULTY_BASED_PROF_DAT"), you have to rename the correct prof.dat to "prof.dat" first edit it with proedit and rename it back to its original name.

If you use vanilla:
Download proedit first and open the prof.dat file in "\Data\BinaryData\"

it does not work - you have to alter the pix with a program like photoshop / just changing those values is not sufficient - but there are rumours that this will be gone once and for all soon

Thanks! But how do i edit IMPs? I know they corrsepond to the 200.sti files but in the proedit all i can find are PGmale and PGfemales which seem to have no impact no matter how i change them around. So my question is how do i for instance adjust coordinates for 210.sti in proedit?

Khor1255
Navetsea
About the naming system, how to name new custom photo, is there a list of which number represent who,

You need to look in Proedit for this. Proedit is contained in the data 1.13/binarydata folder. It is pretty self explanatory what number corresponds to which merc. Theses numbers are used for almost every reference to a character in the game and are contained in the upper left corner of the proedit screen. Also of interest is the xy coordinates of the mouth and eye 'cutouts'. This is important if you want to make eyes and mouth cutouts that animate correctly. The x-1, y-1 coordinate pixel is the upper left pixel of any image so to make a cutout corresponding to x-10 y-10 you have to go 10 pixels from the left and 10 pixels down. This will be the location of the upper left pixel on your cutout.
Ask a question if that is confusing.
Navetsea
and how to add photo selection for main character?
or is there a possibility to add new merc too?

You will see the IMP mercs faces in the 200s in the faces folders. Just look at them in sti edit and find the one you want. The corresponding proedit entries are 51 - 56 which are named pgmale and pgfemale.

Navetsea
sorry eventhough I joined this place already for sometime, I dont know anything about JA modding.

There is actually a good German forum that still caters to conventional modders. I think it is called Ja Basis. But feel free to ask whatever question you like here as well. Those of us who enjoy doing this have no problem answering questions from other enthusiasts.

Navetsea
BTW, I also edit another photo again
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/Navetsea/kath.jpg

and this is the big portrait of my first set, hpefully the bg is matching with other ja2 photo
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/Navetsea/ladybig.png

This stuff looks really cool. I liked the first one the best because I like faces that look like the original Ja2 style best and that one fits nicely.
It's really cool to see quality work.

Does anyone have a functioning STI for this?

You should try to leave the xy coords alone. You can sometimes make new cutouts (the eye and mouth animated frames) to correspond to whatever you are trying to9 change. But if you can't do this I would suggest adjusting the xy coords in STI edit.
This method involves a good deal of trial and error but can be accomplished in less than an hour per character.

As far as I know, there are no STI versions and the JA2 archive just contains the bmp files for the first girl in 90x100 and another chick.
I don't know where to get the second girl.
I you want to use them for your own mercs, you have to create at least the 48x43 versions, otherwise they will be of very little use to you.
The ladybig.png file from the archive has the wrong dimensions, so it needs to be resized as well. On top of that, all images have way to many colours. Usually around 4000. Sti files use reduced colour palettes with a maximum of 256 colours. If you have done all this, you will notice that the chicks will stick out, because they are too pale. So you probably want to recolour them as well.
See for yourself: http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/5381/testfn.png

I could do all of this, it is not too much of a hazzle, since the animations are already there. So, if no one has working sti files, just send me a PM and tell me who you want to replace.

Sorry i should have been more precise with my question. My problem is that i cannot figure out WHICH ONES to edit in proedit since the ones that i can edit only go as far as 169.sti. So if i wanted to edit one of the imp faces which would corrspond to 210.sti, how would i go about finding them in proedit?

You can't. The IMP face coordinates were hardcoded in the exe file. You have to either edit your replacement image to use the same coordinates as the original one or you try to play with the coordinate adjustment in sti edit.

The proedit settings correspond to whatever voice files are chosen for the IMP. For example, PGmale1 corresponds to any IMP with the first voice the game offers.
However, changing Proedit settings for IMPs is extremely unreliable. I have not heard of anyone having any success doing this and there are other ways to get things done so again if you find the corresponding face .sti just change the xy coords there and you can usually make it work.

I heard about the crashes as a result of changing xy coords but have never (in 7 years of doing it this way) had one.

Still, the faaaarrr better way is to just change the cutouts so they fit the existing .sti you are replacing. With IMPs you actually have a lot to choose from in that regard.

You guys got me interested in trying this. Using Kaerer's template, I re-did 209 (2nd female imp choice)

Eyes and mouth move.

I plan on tweaking this a little to make it better in the future. Here's what it is so far though.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v377/hachi-ryoku/JA2/209b.jpg

209zipped
updated as of 27Jul10

And please do try it. Then let me know what I can improve on.

It seems to have a funny thing with the mouth sometimes. The problem seemed to resolve itself after a few run throughs (?). Let me know if you notice it.

@Czert
Right now I think it's limited.......at least from all I've read. Maybe somebody smarter than me could make it happen eventually. I don't mind replacements for now though as most of them I don't even like. Some of those chics are pretty fugly.

@Yanzco
I'll start with 213. I'm currently using Faith (page 1 of this thread) for 208 and 209 is the character I've already made above. More to come with that one. I need to tweak the colors and placement a little.
The other selections I can do are;
Female IMP's 210, 214 and 215.
Male IMP's 201~215
What's the deal with the camo? I never use that trait. Would there need to be a camo pic made as well? If so, I probably wont do it....sorry, just being honest.

I'm also going to work on some AIM and MERC characters eventually too. I have a little free time for about a week and a half.

I got this done faster than I thought it was going to take me.

It was almost a pain at first. I'm using a combination of word, paint and the sti editor. I got the flow down though, so others should follow.

Unzip first. Then copy paste manually in the according face folders in your data or data 1.13 section. If you have any question, then let me kow.

enjoy

Glad you like it. Little by little I'm learning how to mod this game.

@KOukku
I've nevr messed with that one, but I would assume he process would be similar. 1. Unzip it using whatever zip program you have. 2. Open the JA2 folders, find the face folders in the data section and put the files where they should go. If that doesn't work maybe somebody else knows.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/Navetsea/nadiapreview.jpg

Got this one done. I replaced Buns with her. Install just like above. I geneally recomend winzip. I've never had a problem with it and it's user friendly.

This one was a little harder to work with and I don't have a BIGFACE with a background. I remember seeing one somewhere. If somebody finds it, let me know. I can update it pretty easily.

Buns

I've also finished a new one. It's IMP 210.

You can find it here;

No problem.

I would like to change Spider, but I don't have any ideas right now.

If anybody has some good pics that they would like me to try, post or link them here. Don't be offended if I say no though. The real world will take precedence over modding just to mod. I'm pretty busy these days. This goes for any character.

I've added some new faces.

IMP210, Buzz, Scope and Flo.

I went into proedit and changed the hair color accordingly. I reccomend you do the same. Otherwise, it just seems funny. My Scope character has black hair, but the body animation has blond until you change it.

For 210, Buzz and Flo I should give credit to Ron. All I did was mod them to fit certain characters. Sorry if I'm giving the credit to the wrong person. I've been loosing track of all the creators to all the different mods. I think it was Ron who first did these though.

Scope is my own creation.

All eyes and mouths work.

There's a pic of each in the folders. That's just so you know what they look like. The sti files are what you actually need.

Male IMP210, Buzz, Scope and Flo

Download, unzip and move the sti files to the according locations in the data/face folders.

Enjoy

Hi, got new Ira's portrait for you. Vanilla one was starting to annoy me, so I've made a new one. I tried to keep it JA2-style Very Happy

Hmm... it's actually good that you did this and probably you did a very good job on the technical side of things too but honestly: this is imo one of the ugliest persons on a portrait ever. Really, it looks like an ugly boy and (never thought i'd say this) original Ira is way more beautiful.

Ouch! The critics are kinda rough here today.

I say good job. Yes, she's kinda fugly, but the style is still in JA2. Which is better than I can say. I've got good looking pics, but I have no idea how to change the coloring to JA2 style.

Where did you get the pic from?.... Don't say it's your mother or we're all going to hell.
