Okay my little Padawans, you showed great patience. So here is your reward:
4 fully animated portraits all in 90x100 for npcs, 48x43 for mercs as well as 31x27 and their bigfaces.
I drew Anton Chigurh all by myself with the help of a photo as template.
The other 3 portraits are based on pictures from the game Fallout Tactics. The original pictures were in a monochrome greenish style, so I had to work quite a lot, but it was worth it. I can say without hesitation, that these are the best portraits that I have done so far. I'm especially proud of how "Boomer" turned out(the guy on the left side). The guy in the middle is "Blythe". I'm not totally satisfied with him, because his skin colour is a little bit too light. But whenever I darken his picture and convert it to STI, the palette gets messed up. The black guy on the right is "Strom" and he was the first, which I converted to STI.

Got excited? Are you about to jizz into your pants? Here is the link:

current 1.13:
Check "\Data-1.13\TableData\MercProfiles.xml"
If you use older version of 1.13:
Go to your "\Data-1.13\BinaryData\" There is an exe file called PROEDIT. When you start this program, it will open prof.dat, where you can enter new mouth and eye coordinates. If you use difficulty based prof.dat (check your ini "Data File settings"->"USE_DIFFICULTY_BASED_PROF_DAT"), you have to rename the correct prof.dat to "prof.dat" first edit it with proedit and rename it back to its original name.
If you use vanilla:
Download proedit first and open the prof.dat file in "\Data\BinaryData\"

Thanks! But how do i edit IMPs? I know they corrsepond to the 200.sti files but in the proedit all i can find are PGmale and PGfemales which seem to have no impact no matter how i change them around. So my question is how do i for instance adjust coordinates for 210.sti in proedit?
Khor1255NavetseaAbout the naming system, how to name new custom photo, is there a list of which number represent who,
You need to look in Proedit for this. Proedit is contained in the data 1.13/binarydata folder. It is pretty self explanatory what number corresponds to which merc. Theses numbers are used for almost every reference to a character in the game and are contained in the upper left corner of the proedit screen. Also of interest is the xy coordinates of the mouth and eye 'cutouts'. This is important if you want to make eyes and mouth cutouts that animate correctly. The x-1, y-1 coordinate pixel is the upper left pixel of any image so to make a cutout corresponding to x-10 y-10 you have to go 10 pixels from the left and 10 pixels down. This will be the location of the upper left pixel on your cutout.
Ask a question if that is confusing.
Navetseaand how to add photo selection for main character?
or is there a possibility to add new merc too?
You will see the IMP mercs faces in the 200s in the faces folders. Just look at them in sti edit and find the one you want. The corresponding proedit entries are 51 - 56 which are named pgmale and pgfemale.
Navetseasorry eventhough I joined this place already for sometime, I dont know anything about JA modding.
There is actually a good German forum that still caters to conventional modders. I think it is called Ja Basis. But feel free to ask whatever question you like here as well. Those of us who enjoy doing this have no problem answering questions from other enthusiasts.
NavetseaBTW, I also edit another photo again

and this is the big portrait of my first set, hpefully the bg is matching with other ja2 photo
This stuff looks really cool. I liked the first one the best because I like faces that look like the original Ja2 style best and that one fits nicely.
It's really cool to see quality work.
Does anyone have a functioning STI for this?

As far as I know, there are no STI versions and the JA2 archive just contains the bmp files for the first girl in 90x100 and another chick.
I don't know where to get the second girl.
I you want to use them for your own mercs, you have to create at least the 48x43 versions, otherwise they will be of very little use to you.
The ladybig.png file from the archive has the wrong dimensions, so it needs to be resized as well. On top of that, all images have way to many colours. Usually around 4000. Sti files use reduced colour palettes with a maximum of 256 colours. If you have done all this, you will notice that the chicks will stick out, because they are too pale. So you probably want to recolour them as well.
See for yourself:
I could do all of this, it is not too much of a hazzle, since the animations are already there. So, if no one has working sti files, just send me a PM and tell me who you want to replace.

@Czert
Right now I think it's limited.......at least from all I've read. Maybe somebody smarter than me could make it happen eventually. I don't mind replacements for now though as most of them I don't even like. Some of those chics are pretty fugly.
@Yanzco
I'll start with 213. I'm currently using Faith (page 1 of this thread) for 208 and 209 is the character I've already made above. More to come with that one. I need to tweak the colors and placement a little.
The other selections I can do are;
Female IMP's 210, 214 and 215.
Male IMP's 201~215
What's the deal with the camo? I never use that trait. Would there need to be a camo pic made as well? If so, I probably wont do it....sorry, just being honest.
I'm also going to work on some AIM and MERC characters eventually too. I have a little free time for about a week and a half.

No problem.
I would like to change Spider, but I don't have any ideas right now.
If anybody has some good pics that they would like me to try, post or link them here. Don't be offended if I say no though. The real world will take precedence over modding just to mod. I'm pretty busy these days. This goes for any character.

I've added some new faces.
IMP210, Buzz, Scope and Flo.
I went into proedit and changed the hair color accordingly. I reccomend you do the same. Otherwise, it just seems funny. My Scope character has black hair, but the body animation has blond until you change it.
For 210, Buzz and Flo I should give credit to Ron. All I did was mod them to fit certain characters. Sorry if I'm giving the credit to the wrong person. I've been loosing track of all the creators to all the different mods. I think it was Ron who first did these though.
Scope is my own creation.
All eyes and mouths work.
There's a pic of each in the folders. That's just so you know what they look like. The sti files are what you actually need.
Male IMP210, Buzz, Scope and Flo
Download, unzip and move the sti files to the according locations in the data/face folders.
Enjoy
