I'll try to keep a list of all known bugs here - please feel free to help.
BTW: is the bugzilla still active and should we use it?

+ when you try to change the kit of the mercs in profiles/userprofile/ja2_mp.ini by amending items to the list there, you'll cause the game to crash at startup
+ Actually, whatever change you make to profiles/userprofile/ja2_mp.ini will cause the game to crash with the only remedy: deleting all contents of profiles/userprofile

extremely annoying, because there are many changes (like kit for example, or certain signs required for the path of the mp_sync directory) that cannot be applied ingame.

When did the game crash? Before you reach the main menu?

I just made some adjustments in the Profile/UserProfiles/ja2_mp.ini and the game started fine. In the future we put all the settings from the ja2_mp.ini into the JOIN/HOST screen so you do not need to change the ja2_mp.ini anymore by hand.

PS: I did not delete the content of the Profile/UserProfiles folder before making any changes to ja2_mp.ini

it crashed at startup, displaying an error message (don't ask what it said, it won't help)

i'd clearly prefer to define all of these things "manually" as you put it. wasting ingame-time for such preparatory works is not really what i want to do. The game should especially not keep track and overwrite or rewrite the INI files on the fly. So in my opinion, make the HOST screen just a visual representation of what was prepared in the .INI beforehand so the HOST can check if everything is okay and change it if needed. But for god's sake please NOT require me to make every little change in ingame HOST screen mode.

Crashing at startup does not have anything to do with ja2_mp.ini.

Maybe you deleted the Profiles/UserProfile folder??

You don't need to make any change in the host screen. It reads the actual values from the ja2_mp.ini and populates the textboxes and checkboxes. Once you change a value in the hostscreen it automatically gets updated in the ja2_mp.ini.

i don't really want the host screen to update my .INI, unless i can explicity activate/ deactivate this somewhere. The changes to the settings made for one specific game are usually not what i want to play all other games with, quite to the contrary, they are tweaks to the game about to be started, while the generally valid settings are in the .INI

(basicly i only ask for an off-switch, something everybody else asks for pretty much every feature too)

NativeElder : Is there a problem changing the sync directory in unicode? like when a different character than / is used in windows? I've seen it in Japanese, but i havent tried it do to my lack of a japanese keyboard.

I like the ability to change all the frequently used settings without quitting the game and opening up the .ini file. Apart from just saving the settings you last used, which is a good feature for most people, the reason we do it is that the server code re-reads the values after they have been written.

We could change it fairly easily so it dosent need to do that, but have kept it that way in case we ever decided to split it off into a seperate exe again.

well, in my case, the default directory name didn't match the directories the patch installed and so the game reported that the specified directory didn't exist. Now in the .INI, it woudl have been a walk in the park to fix the problem, but doing so resulted in a crash. But ingame, it didn't like my attempts at typing in the correct path... it just didn't record my typings, so i had to create new empty folders that were letters only to have the game read it. Just one of these things why such settings just don't belong ingame.

i see you do have reasons for doing it the way it is. How about a switch (ironically, i would locate tht switch in said .INI) so we can have it the way it used to be under the old exe? just paste in a new .ini and that ini is the truth?
Of course i don't know the technical reasons why a split-off exe would require it to be one way or another.

What exactly doesn't work when you change the ini file. Can you give me the exact error message, which may mean nothing to you, but for me it is important. When you have the files vfs_init.log, init_exceptions.log, game_exceptions.log either in your install directory or in the Profiles/UserProfile directory, posting the contents of these files could also help to find the cause of the problem. Since in the released version there are no data or timestamps printed in these files, it is a good idea to delete them and restart the game. When an error occurs these files will be created again (ok, vfs_init.log will be created anyway).

These are known bugs and are already fixed for the next version. There is a workaround:
Delete ALL ja2_mp.ini files inside your JA2 install directory (in the subfolders of "MULTIPLAYER/Servers"), except the one in the "Profiles/UserProfile" folder then start the EXE again. Now it should work.
