I am looking for a copy of the ORIGINAL beta Editor to use for mapmaking.

yes I know that there is one that has been tweaked for use with UC but that is not what i am looking for.

Yes, I know there is a sweet version of one that has been tweaked for use with JA2 v 1.13 but THAT is not what i am looking for.

I am pretty certain that both of those Editors had to have a ROOT Editor that they then had files added to and the JA2set altered so that they are in the state that they are in presently.

Was there ever an English patch made for the original Beta.bat that came out with the Deutcshe version of Jagged Alliance 2?

That is the READ ME instructions for the Unfinished business Map Editor.

I am looking for the actual beta Editor that Wodan tweaked and wrote the instructions for that was used for Urban Chaos. The actual editor BEFORE it only worked for UC with that train wreck of items and weapons file. LOL

Rude, the original German exe IS THE BETA EDITOR...doh...

You need a .bat file made (or a shortcut) with:

JA2_BETA.EXE -EDITORAUTO

Batman provided everything in UC-Utils Pack, but here you go:

Make a text file and write inside:
JA2_BETA.EXE -EDITORAUTO
Save file as "EDITOR.BAT" and place in same folder as the exe.

Make a text file and write inside:
JA2_BETA.EXE -DOMAPS
Save file as "DO-RADAR-MAPS.BAT" and place in same folder as exe.

Run the .bat files to get the editor started. But you're much better off downloading the whole set of UC Utils honestly.

The UC utils one is the editor that is giving me fits. I do not want to make UC maps. I want to make vanilla JA2 maps with the JA2 items, tilesets, etc.

This is the kind of explanation that was needed.

Let me clarify this bit too. The editor in UC-utils isn't altered in any way. It's the plain german exe which includes the Beta editor. If you copy it into a vanilla JA2 folder, it reads and creates JA2 maps. If you copy it into UC folder, it reads and creates UC maps.

The editor doesn't include the tilesets and maps. Those are stored in other files.

UC Utils is a good download because also includes other tools. Of course, you can just download them as you go.

I've got all of those DLs BUT the only way that I could get it to stop crashing was to load the mdguns and something else into it from UC.

I know it is weird but remember that I am not THE tECH SIDE OF THE EQUATION ON ANY OF THE modS (OOPS CAPS) that I have been involved in. Hell, I'm lucky that I have a twisted mind and these good looks or none of you would ever talk to me. LOL

Are you trying to run it on an installation where 1.13 is installed? If so there may be issues with the guns. I'm not sure the old Beta editor could handle the large MDGuns file from 1.13.

If it uses the MDGuns from UC, then no real issue either, but do remember the Beta editor did crash a lot, but it doesn't create Frisbee's like the new one Wink

Been years since I messed with this thing but IIRC you also need Editor.slf from UB. May need to unSLF it too.

I'm trying to get this baby to work with the ORIGINAL game's items and graphics. The UC one makes a Glock 17 look like a sawed off and the UC items/Weapons is a freaking NIGHTMARE!

What do you need? The .dll? The .bat?

I have a version of it that should work in any version at least up to the 1.07. I am in New Jersey today but will be back tomorrow and send you anything you need.

Let me know.

Actually, that's not true. The editor IS edited. It's patched with the UC version of MyWeapons.txt. I know, because I was the one that did it, hehe, back in the day. It was done with Wedit and a altered patcher with the JA2_BETA.exe added in the .bat file. The sad thing is that I do not have all my old tools anymore. That computer is in heaven now :pitchfork:.

The difference is the date on the Beta .EXE file.

I had two of them. one that was JA2_BETA.EXE and JA2 Beta 0.95 DE.exe

JA2 Beta 0.95 DE.exe needs renamed to JA2_BETA.EXE as it is the file created in Nov. of 2001 IIRC.

Solved the problem that I was having so far anyway.
