Has anyone thought about the nationality of Stephen? He first struck me as being german or at least from a german-speaking country. However, when I realized he actually shouts "Smorgasbooord..." upon seeing enemies I put 2 and 2 together.

The designers intended to make him from Switzerland, but as every Swedish person knows, foreigners (americans mostly) often tend to mix Sweden and Switzerland up. So, my take is that Stephen is something as unique as a Swedish/Swiss-hybrid!

So, any additional thoughts on this? Smile

according to proedit he is swiss - and to some neat swiss guy a smorgasbrod (isn't that danish by the way?) is an utter mess :devilaugh:

TIP: don't give a damn about americans' pov as a reliable source, when the usmc-hq in beirut, lebanon was bombed nearly half of all reservations for wagner-festspiele (musik) in bayreuth, bavaria, germany were cancelled. :digit:

'Smorgasbord' describes something coming in a big variety...and in a positive sense, which I wouldn't say discovering a lot of enemies would induce. Directly translated from Swedish it becomes sandwich table Smile

I also noticed a quite strange accent, somewhere around the stupid ones you hear in Hollywood movies when a Swede comes around.

Thank you Off_Topic, I was able to Wikipedia the term very well on my own.

Anyway, I think it' a quite strange thing to yell in the heat of combat and with yanks's (and probably canadians') notorious inability to distinct between Sweden and Switzerland I think the designers added the comment thinking it was of Swiss decent.

that was during the reagan administration - and anyone was happy about american elliotnes, 'cause tickets are always in very short supply (i couldn't get some till now), and that season there were lots of on the market after that

I'm very well aware of the usage in the English-speaking world I just thought it made little sense to actually use it in this context. For the record I'm not hell-bent on him being Swedish, I just found it quite of a coincidence with him alledgingly being Swiss and then shouting a word of Swedish decent, which I've tried to clarify.

I'm not sure if my communication skills are all that bad or if you just want to get me wrong and then get me wrong.

you should also take into consideration that characters are based on prejudice in ja (e.g. there is no german 'good guy'), and the swiss desire for tidynes is legendary (asterix in helvetia) - smorgasbord is a bloody mess to them - maybe it is as strong a curse as some irish express with a single 'brits'
