Inshy, stability problems have plauged that project, until now hopefully. In working on the Folding Stock Test Mod (FSTM), I fould that mistakes made in the inventory of the terrorists were leading to normal JA2 having the same map lock ups that the UC-1.13 Hybrid was having. By fixing those bugs in FSTM (1.5+) I've created hopefully a stable base for both this mod (DL-1.13FS) and UC-1.13.

If all goes well, I may be able to do a public beta release of UC-1.13 around Christmas (around the anniversary of when it was first released all those years ago).

EDIT: now that I think about it, I don't think I've run into anyone on Carmen's hit list, except for Slay (who doesn't count as he inhabits Dimitri's character slot in the DL mod).

Let me first give a little introduction.

Hi! Razz

Love the game but didn't know about this community until about 1 1/2 years ago. Love the job you are all doing with these mods.

But getting on the subject. I can't seem to get this running I'm stuck at step 4 of the instillation... I just can't seem to find the things described at this step.

-I open the editor but i can't find the described file in the drop down menu.

Can anyone help?

I've been playing this with 3111 svn1194 and so far great fun. But I've just taken Cambria and I can't re-enter sector G8 (the gun runners are still alive). When I try, from either the strategic map or neighbouring sector, a missing or corrupt files message pops up and then the game exits. Re-installing doesn't help.

Otherwise nice work, I've encountered no other problems so far except the crossbow seems a little weak though the manual reload cost is very small compared to bolt action rifles. And the mp5sd5 can attach a suppressor? But you can't wear a ghillie jacket over coated armour? Applying Compound 18 to a vest with the jacket attached caused a CTD.

Thanks T_Bolt, I've run into the "missing or corrupt" once (almost twice) in UC-1.13 testing. It seems to be randomly occuring issue to maps that you have already visited. On noticing that a second sector was affected by the CTD, I loaded the savegame from right after I took the sector (a few days before the error) and it did not reoccur. I'll be adding a section to the UC-1.13 FAQ with hints like this to avoid what I'm thinking are JA2 1.13 stability issues.

Is the CTD from applying Compound 18 to a vest with ghillie jacket repeatable? Does it happen to applying Royal Jelly as well? Does the CTD also happen when C-18 and/or Royal Jelly is applied to pants with attached ghillie pants?

XML/Items errors:
*mp5dd5 - that's an error
*ghillie jacket + coated armour - that's an error
*crossbow - should reload it be higher?

Probably. On a bolt action rifle one is just working the bolt, on a crossbow the string needs to be pulled back /and/ a new bolt fetched from the quiver and put on the bow.

Ok, I'll up both the cost to reload and the "bolt-action" cost (the name escapes me at this moment). My implementation of the crossbow has you loading 3 bolts at once (one in battery, and two clipped to the side); as the DBB mod's crossbow graphic had this "quick loader" arrangement of reload bolts and in my laziness, I'm just using rocket rifle ammo graphics for the bolts (and they too can look like they are portraying 3 bolts).

After the UC-113 public Beta is unleashed, there will be a new release of DL-113FS. I want to sync up the two mods anyways as there are a few adjustments that I put directly in UC. So there are a few weeks for additional bugs to be reported and squashed.

This is the first time I've encountered the missing files error. Though I was using either the HAM3.6 and RII exes on previous games. This is also the first game with DL1.13 that I'm trying with Sci-fi mode, if that makes any difference.

I haven't found any Royal Jelly yet but it does happen with C-18, kevlar and ghillie pants. And it is repeatable, none of the treated/coated armours I looked with the xml editor take ghillie or camo attachments.

Much, at least twice the cost. Though to balance it I'd make the ammo type ignore armour.

I can't remember but are you meant to be able to still combine the rod & spring in DL? I've found a lot of them but they no longer merge.

rod & spring - yeah that's an error. In original DL I remember having a surplus of Rod and Springs equipped guns.

Some more issues:
- Crowbars can be repaired.
- Slugs for shotguns do not work properly: cursor displays "can't see target" and if you deliver the shot anyway, it costs like three times more than with buckshot or lockbusters. There seems to be the problem in Ammotypes.xml with last, 42th entry for slug type ammunition. I've changed "slugs" to "ball"(1st one in Ammotypes.xml) type in Magazines.xml, and now it works normally as it should. BTW, slugs in vanilla JA2 are also ball type, so they are kinda weak.
- Flashbangs are +1 size bigger than Smoke/Tear gas/Mustard Gas grenades, they should share the same bulk.
- "Deployed Stock" and "Extended Stock" give -1 for size. It should be the other way around, meaning +1 in size.

Thanks profound. When I have a chance I'll take a look at the bugs: Crowbar, shotgun slug ammo, flashbang grenade inconsistencies.

The Deployed/Extended Stock -1 is actually a conscious decision. To avoid the extra micromanagement, a weapon with folding stock may be stored in a (-1) smaller slot than its fixed stock counterpart. This -1 in size is given by the stock item, which should always have one of the two possible "modes" of stock attached. The differences between stock modes are only found in the firing/CTH characteristics of the weapon.

It does not seem logical: A folded stock should give -1 to size and an extended one should not change the size of the gun at all, taking into account that the itemsize of the gun was set for the length of the gun with an extended stock.

All guns in basic 1.13 that incorporate a folding or retractable stock have their itemsize set for the length of the gun with the stock folded(!), so if you took those itemsizes for the UC mod, your folding stock mod may do buggy things if you did not change the itemsize of the guns, i.e. a G36 has an itemsize as if a folding stock's -1 was already in effect, and if you keep that itemsize and then make a mod with attachable stocks that have their own -1 to size, then the gun is actually modified -2 to size.

Yup, weapons incorporating a folding stock being -1 in size to a fixed stock counterpart (but only when a stock item is attached) is not intuitive or realistic. It was done purely to reduce micromanagement. Starwalker, I changed all the stats in my projects, including weapon size so for example the base G36 is size 7 in the XML Editor, as is an AK-74 (fixed stock), M16, and C7. I do not consider the adjustable CAR-15 stock on the C7A1 to change the overall "storage profile" of it to warrant putting it into a smaller class. The bullpup layout of the full size AUG however is dramatic enough to drop it down to size 6. A G36 with either of the compatible stocks attached has an effective size of 6.

As this is actually the most sustained discussion of my folding stock concept to date (3 going on 4 posts) here were/are the options:

1) No change, it does not matter which stock is attached, both give -1 to size. A missing stock makes the weapon "broken," with among other consequences the weapon is the same size as its fixed stock counterpart.
Pro: Less micromanagement
Con: Not realistic or intuitive

2) Only the folded/collapsed stock item gives -1 to size. If you want to fit the gun in a smaller inventory slot, you have to go though the process of folding/collapsing the stock. For example, the AEK-919 is intended to fix a SMG holster. Under this idea, it would only fit, if a collapsed stock is attached. When the weapon is drawn it has a collapsed stock, in combat the player has to spend a few AP to extend the stock or accept the loss of CTH in favor of reduced AP to fire. (Yes I know of the exploit to attach a extended stock after it is in the SMG holster, but for the sake of argument...)
Pro: Intuitive, probably more use of the folding/unfolding process.
Con: More micromanagement

3) The base weapon that has a folding stock is -1 in relation to a fixed stock counterpart. Stock items have no effect on size.
Pro: Less micromanagement
Con: I have to think about whether a weapon's stock can fold or not before assigning a size. (As in the example, I made all "full sized" AR's size 7 unless they were bullpup in layout.)

does not work :/

-got newest ja2 svn release + german files (SVN)

-built a Data-DL folder with the original files

-changed JA2.ini

If I set the JA2.ini to vfs_config.JA2113.ini it works do I change it to vfs_config.DL2113.ini game crashes without anything than a white screen shown.

Any ideas?

I seem to fail at integrating mods.

I followed your steps as well as I can see.

JA2 Gold fresh
1.13 Mod installed over that (most recent since January 1, 2010)
I created the DL Target folder in JA2 Root, named a new folder in that Data.
I then moved JA2.exe into DL Target, and unpacked Original DL into DL Target/Data
I then renamed Data (in DL Target) to Data - DL and placed it into JA2 Root
I moved JA2.exe and JA2 Original.exe into JA2 Root
I then deleted DL Target folder

It should function by playing JA2 Original (or so I think), but does not.

I then tried to run the game via Ini Editor, and found that there is no data for the Ini Editor (outside of values) to mess with.

Could anybody help me rectify this problem?

You shouldn't use dl-installer on the folder of the "Deidranna Lives! -1.13 Folding Stock Hybrid" game.

create an temporary empty folder
- place a copy of the file "Ja2.exe" in it.
- create a folder named "DATA" in it.

Use the dl-installer on this newly created folder.
- after installation: rename the folder "DATA" to "DATA-DL"

copy only the "DATA-DL" folder to where you want the "Deidranna Lives! -1.13 Folding Stock Hybrid" game.

If you ended up over writing the v1.13 .exe in your game directory then you were not following the instructions.

Here is a modified form of the instructions to unpack the original DL Data folder:

Extracting the Needed Files from the Original Deidranna Lives! Mod
1. Create an folder named "DL Target" on your Windows desktop
2. Copy the ja2.exe file from the 1.13 install into the "DL Target" folder.

Finally got DL-1.13 v3.00 started yesterday. So far:
- items reordered
- merc profiles modified to be reasonably functional (Jubilee, Slay, Tourist, Clones, Eldorado...), but it will take time to test and fix all the minor things like face coordinates.
- tested Eldorado, unlike in UC-1.13, it is not respawning
- surveyed original DL maps, looks like I can get away with a no-maps release, about a dozen maps will be using XML Extra Items placement, so the bonus is I don't need to do anything too fancy with arranging the launcher grenades.
