So I was thinking, since with 1.13 it seems like everyone plays with multiple IMPs anyway, why not for 3 have the ability right out of the box to have multiple custom characters? But to just let you make a team of free mercs at the start would be too overpowered, so why not spawn them during the game from the militia? Like, green>regular>veteran>hero(random chance, not every combat).
Like with heroes in Civilization 3, there could be a chance of veterans becoming heroes, giving you a chance to name them, set their stats/portait/personality, and they become strategically commandable just like any other merc. And maybe if you leave them with the unit they spawned from they could act as a commander, and you could move that group of militia(but to balance out, no more heroes would spawn from that unit). Or you could integrate them into your merc teams, up to you.
This would:
1. Cushion some of the sting of merc deaths. Sure, you might still save/reload for sentimental reasons, but for the more cold-hearted realist the game could still go on under more adverse conditions.
2. Give the sense that the people are more willing to go on the offensive to fight for their country back.
3. Just the "cool" factor, everyone wants to customize their game.

Plus if they were to make the maps bigger and more open, you'd need all the help you can get, and this could give the player the sense of having an army, while still maintaining the elite specops feel of AIM.

It is a great idea but, unless you implement it yourself I don't see it happening.

True enough. From what I've read in other threads JA3 isn't looking very promising, so any wish list ideas we come up with here will probably just end up being wishful thinking anyway.

Right now, there has been talk of brandishing a brand new Jagged Alliance 2 from the unreal engine. A lot of possibilities suddenly open their doors if talk turns into action.

The unreal engine does grant the possibility of creating a massive game of fantastic fun and depth much like the JA series; but I believe it will have to be from the ground up.

LOL yeah it will on your own Wink

It would be a 5-7 year one with the amount of people working on 1.13 currently.

It would be a 2-3 year one with a proper studio making it using Unreal or Crytek engines.

Currently I leave the 3D debate alone, but depending how things go over the next year or so I may revisit it Smile
