it's rev1's thread, so i don't think he minds it Smile

And as far as DoM is concerned, the modmaker wrote that he'll have a thread once he's got the english readme right. He'll certainly make a thread in due time. Until then, as long as nobody here minds it, we can easily discuss the few things we know about DoM here.

The targeting is "off" thing is probably result of the vector ballistics... and there's only few things funnier than a collateral headshot Very Happy

Did you check out automated attacks using "a" or "y"? when i was playing dom, i printed a list of new shortkeys the dev had made to have a reference for all this stuff. I'm not really good with hotkeys memorizing Very Happy

Step by step install for Demise of Man .

1.... unzip DoM files
2.... you now have a folder called Ja2 upgrade
3.... Open folder and inside are 3 folders (Data ,data 1.10 and Demise) plus various dll's exe. and .sets.
4.... open data 1.10 , copy all contents and paste into the Data folder ( you may delete the 1.10 folder if you want)
5.... Copy the now expanded Data folder and paste into your JA2 Gold root folder , overwriting where required
6.... Copy contents of Demise folder , paste into JA2 Gold data folder , overwrite where required
7.... Now copy all dll's, exe , etc. still in your Ja2 Upgrade folder and paste into your JA2 Gold
root folder , overwriting where required.
8.... Start game using DoM exe.

'Seemples Sergei' Smile
I'll give the 1.13 version a try today hopefully.

i find the sounds the strogg are emitting, their grunts and screams to be rather atmospheric, adds a lot to suspense if you ask me. Some of the strogg are really funny, like the flying-saucer strogg Very Happy

laser, plasma, electroguns with their trails are pretty awesome, but what i found really kick-ass is that plasma-auto-shotgun. That thing is so massive. Also heat-seeeking rockets Very Happy, the Railgun, the chaingun... and probably a lot more that i didn't see at all.
But against the strogg, some of them having 400 HP, you'll actually need the overkill that these weapons have

Tried to get 1.13 version working , though even on mod loader using the Demise exe. it still runs on 800x600 ,not 1024 . Is there NIV coded ? Seems as if not , maybe that's why it wont run. Hmmm.

Possibly getting us somewhat back on topic, I think it would be really interesting to see what would happen if one were to combine Demise of man with something like Renegade Republic. ... You drop in with one agenda and suddenly find that your enemy (other humans) may potentially have become your ally as some alien invader starts harvesting humans for parts. It would be even more interesting, but perhaps impossible from a code perspective, if at the same time the underground bugs were to surface and start raiding. (I think, though, that the bugs, Strogg, and roaming packs of marauders are all using the same slots - so would view one another as allies. ... Which also would explain why we haven't yet seen them engage one another. Nobody has undertaken that challenge from a coding perspective.

The idea sounds very intriguing. There was, however, tons of code to be changed for implementing the strogg as such, so i could imagine that it would be very hard to do what you have in mind there. But DoM surely shows that there's a world of opportunity outside the narrow scope of all other mods, and porting parts of other mods or adding new quest/ story content to DoM would be rather easy to do given its PCM.XML file
The mod designer once communicated to have a few interesting scenarios in mind though...
