I have a problem when joining a game. When I'm joining the game, it asks if I want to download the files host has, as it should. After that I wait a moment and then comes text "game has already started", even when the game hasn't started. Then I get disconnected. Apparently I manage to join the game, but then immediately get disconnected.

I have installed JA 2 Gold pack, 1.13 3111 SVN 1194 and all MP packs from 1.0 to 1.5.

I have already tried re-installing whole game. So what should I try next?

Are you sure, you did not start the game? A started game does not mean, that the mercs are running through the map and so on.
It is "started", after the server clicked the button "Start Game" and map, starting edges and teams cannot be changed anymore.

No, the game hasnt started, cos it cant be started with only one player.
When i join hes server, it says that server its allready started, but he see that i visited on that server, and before that, it asks do i want to download something, and it takes more time that usally.
We both have same 1.13 SVN versions, 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5 versions, but when i play with somebody else, it works fine.

Thats odd, what if the server doesnt have any downloads, ie they turn off "Sync MP Clients Directory", does it still say the game has started then?

Yeah, same thing, game has allready started.
I turned Sync MP Clients Directory settings off, but still same, other player appears to game, but then disconnects.

I am running into this same problem.

I am creating a valid server and some of the players can connect some can't.

Edit:

One player joined my server and the other could not. I restarted the server and now neither can join.

I have the same problem.
Friend cannot connect, due to "game has already started" error.
All he sees is the loading screen. Have tried with Directory Sync on and off.

We are using latest release + hotfix.

I have gotten it to work in Death match after numerous tries.
Co op does not work. When ever we place our mercs the connecting party always gets kicked.
I can not figure out what it is.

Directory synch has nothing to do with it.

For some reason it kicks the connecting party from the server.

So you CAN'T play ANY CO OP game, because of the connecting problem??

Or can you play CO OP games under special circumstances?

EDIT: I cannot reproduce your problems. Here is what I tried so far.

TRY #1
- I hosted a new MP (COOP) game for 2 players (server is client #1)
- Client #2 connects. Everything fine
- Client #3 tries to connect, but can't connect because max players = 2. So Client #3 has to press ESC to go back to the main menu screen
- server (client #1) unlocks the laptop
- server (client #1) quits the MP game and everyone automatically go back to main menu screen

TRY #2
- I host another new MP (COOP) game, now with max players = 3 (server is client #1)
- Client #2 connects
- server (client #1) unlocks the laptop
- Client #3 can't connect, and gets the message box, that the MP game is already started
- server (client #1) quits the MP game and everyone automatically go back to main menu screen

TRY #3
- I host another new MP (COOP) game, again with max players = 3 (server is client #1)
- Client #2 connects
- Client #3 connects (now client #3 can connect, because the MP game is not started yet)
- server (client #1) unlocks the laptop, everyone hire merc, click ready, place merc and play without problems

EDIT: I just want to mention. The connection stuff has nothing to do (= independent) with the choosen game type (COOP, DM, Team-DM).

Right.

We can play Death match after numerous tries to connect. Co-op works after numerous tries to connect, but as Pas stated: The game kicks him when he places his mercenaries. I, as the host, can continue fine. The game simply kills and removes his mercenaries from the game.

Rowa,

The same old problem is happening with the ID_CONNECTION_LOST. I do not get it. If a port is forwarded and both firewalls are downed, how come this happens? It is like the joining party's can not get through.

A majority of the time the server is up. The joining party is connecting via the host screen, but on the joining party's screen it says that he/she can not join because game has already started. On the host screen it connects joining party and after a while kicks him with the message ID_CONNECTION_LOST.
A game can not start without at least 2 people on the server, so why is the second player getting this message? It has to be some kind of bug.

I have heard of a lot of other instances of this.

Can we try out a game in about 2-3 hours? I will run a debug version to see what causes the problem on the client side.

I will wait in IRC ( in about 2 hours from now)

@taoteching: I have increased the connection lost timeout. Maybe that is the solution for the client connection problem you had with PasHancock.

I have fixed my problem. We both turned off our firewalls and game works perfectly. I don't understand, though, we both allowed JA2 through the firewall... why doesn't it work? I am quite uncomfortable with having to disable my firewall.

If "ja2.exe" is allowed by the firewall it works without problems. I have it the same way.
Sure, disabling the firewall will also work...
