I'm well aware of the impacts and what PROEDIT SHOULD do, but how do I actually make the changes happen? I have made changes, and then saved them. I started a new game, but none of my changes apparently have taken effect. Anyone care to explain what I have to do, or have any pointers on a better way to make changes.

I am using JA2.1.13 (latest SVN release as of December 1, 2009) with HAM 3.5. Does it only function if I do not use HAM?

Thank you for your prompt responses and aide.

Sin

no, you changed a prof.dat that is not used

set 'allways use prof.dat' to true in the ini

otherwise rename 'prof.dat' to 'prof****.dat'

**** = 'expierienced/tons of guns' or whatever you use as setting for your game

Trait changes took effect, however item changes did not. Any clues?

yup - items are no longer controlled by pro-edit (there is a gazillion of new items - pe can't handle that) - you have to change those in the xmls accordingly

That depends on the inventory chosen: Prof.dat's items are still used when the old inventory is chosen, for the new inventory MercStartingGear.xml controls items.

Is there any obvious reason why Proedit.exe at Data\BinaryData(not Data-1.13) does not list mercs equipment in letters, but in sticks instead?

http://vdsg.b4net.lt/JA2/sticks.png

I want to play vanilla JA2 with v1.13/HAM executives. I can do that, but I want to modify game a bit with small changes done @ xmls and prof.dat. As you can see, my initiative to change prof.dat ends here. With sticks.

you get this screen due to lack of ITEMDESC.EDT file in your binarydata folder where you want to use proedit

This is just a peice I came across and thought it may apply/help out someone trying to use ProEdit...

Here's the link for ProEdit, a program to modify the NPC's/RPC's in Jagged Alliance 2 and Jagged Alliance 2 : Unfinished Business.

http://friendlyfire.fr.funpic.org/ja2utils/proedit.zip.

Instructions

Extract the contents of the ZIP file to the "Jagged Alliance 2\Data\Binarydata" - directory.

To use this program for JA2, follow these steps :

- Remove the files "Jagged Alliance 2\Data\Binarydata\Itmdsc25.edt" and "Jagged Alliance 2\Data\Binarydata\Ja25Prof.dat".
- To use ProEdit, rename the file ITEMDESC.EDT to Itmdsc25.edt and the file Prof.dat to Ja25Prof.dat.
- Start PROEDIT25.EXE, edit the character you want to modify, click SAVE, click EXPORT and click QUIT.
- To use the game (else the game won't work) rename the file Itmdsc25.edt to ITEMDESC.EDT and the file Ja25Prof.dat to Prof.dat.
- Start the game, choose your character and enjoy

I can't personally vouch for the procedure ! I just hope it may help someone out a bit....

If you use the Pro-edit found in UC's binarydata you don't even need to do all the file renaming. MFM used this method.
