Reading the UK edition of PC Gamer , I see that Dan Stapleton (reviews editor US Edition) has squeezed JA2 in at no. 95 , praising the 'best tactical strategy combat this side of X-Com series'
which , incidently, is at 11 .
At least it gets a mention . Mauser , do your stuff ! Very Happy

Yeah, that's almost an insult. I can't think of 10 games that are even in the same stratosphere with Ja2. But these chucks think there are 94 that are better?

This is an RPG of harsh realities. Even the top-down graphics are harsh: primitive 16-colour tiles take the place of the original Angband's text characters. But the really galling part is having your mighty hero starve to death because he can't escape the paralysing attack of the lowly Gazer behind the door he just opened. Or losing your vampire warlord when the god of Chaos grants him the 'gift' of eternal sunshine. Or finding that the doors surrounding you are actually monsters. Now that's more like it. Still don't agree with it at all but at least there are a few good ones at the top.

Ooops, I was actually talking about the bottom of the list. But at least Fallout is in their top ten (as if there was any chance it wasn't going to be.)

I spent a while last year rating all the games I've ever played, on Gamespot (at least, the ones they have listed, though for the most part I found everything that was important).

Of over 400 of the games I rated, 17 games ended up with a "10.0" (all justified, as far as I'm concerned). I couldn't possibly rate any of them lower than 10, and I couldn't give them any particular order within that rating either.

OK, in Alphabetical order:

Baldur's Gate II
Civilization (1990)
Civilization IV
Company of Heroes
Day of the Tentacle
Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers
Jagged Alliance 2
Loom
Monkey Island
Monkey Island 2
Pirates!
Pirates! (2004)
Quest For Glory I: So You Want To Be A Hero
Rome: Total War
Star Control II
Star Wars TIE Fighter
Transport Tycoon Deluxe

Honorable mention goes to Pirates and Civilization for making essentially the same game twice and still deserving to be ranked at the top. In fact, Microprose wins my prize for consistently making good games for over a decade.

I've also got close to 40 games rated "9.5", just a stone's throw away from perfect, like "Star Trek: Judgment Rites", "Freddy Pharkas", "Ghost Recon" and both "Fallout"s. There are lots of good games in this world, it really all boils down to the circumstances.

Also, I guess I should add Dragon Age to the "10"s, I forgot to rate it.
