It is worth it. And you need Fallout 2 (CD or downloaded version from GoG or some other game selling website). It costs 5,99 USD on GoG, real bargain.
Currently, the game is pretty much bugged, but it's due to engine upgrade. We are implementing support for 3D, so expect some nice customized human models with different weapons and effects soon.
Right now, we need support in the ModDB Year Awards Competiton, thank you for voting. Member votes are more worthy than guests' ones, so be sure to login before voting (if you already have an account, that is).
Thank you all, enjoy this free game. From gamers for gamers.

Thanks lockie for announcing this (forgot to thank in the previous post)!
Anyway, the voting is almost at the end now, thanks to everyone who voted (they still can, there are 2 days and 22 hours remaining to do so).
Anywhere, where to start? We were modding the good old Fallout 2 for years, then came Timeslip and changed everything with his "sfall" mod/addition to the game... And then we discovered Cvet who is responsible for the whole 'Fallout Online" story. He picked up a piece of code developed by some Russians until a two years ago, they terminated their work and left the code open for the public. Anyway, Cvet continued to work on it and in two years the whole world of Fallout 1 and 2 have been merged into one big MMO world.
Since it was messy to stick to the original timeline, we changed some "events" (although 95% of it remained the same) and renamed the game to 2238. In our timeline, Unity survived, San Francisco Chinese are still communists and Enclave had "an accident" with the Oil Rig, leaving it decapitated and with the base in Navarro only. The story is a bit more balanced now, with no real superpowers, although we still work on it. Since Cvet wanted to try to implement 3D support for the engine and we provided the support for it (more/less), you can expect to have 3D players in the game soon. Changing weapons, armors, haircuts and other stuff will refresh the old image of Fallout and it's quite necessary feature for MMOs actually, since there are many players there and it looks boring when they all look the same.
Anyway, long story short, we'll keep extending the engine with new features and fill the world with new content occasionally (it is a bit empty now, not much quests, but there is much to do anyway - crafting, trading, starting a gang, fighting to control northern cities, mining, cars etc... And there are GM (Game Master) events from time to time, like Warzone or New Reno Comedian Night, where GMs organise something funny for the players...
Anyway, you can try it anytime yourself.
About implementing 3D into 2D: I'm not the mastermind behind it, Cvet did most of the work. I provided him basic models and consulting, and he did the rest using DirectX SDK. The documentation is there, the examples, everything, you just need someone to "crack it", then you can implement it anywhere you want.
EDIT: just a small addition - we are looking for 3D artists, feel free to read the details over at ModDB.
