Hello,

I am playtesting Ranks in my game.

Here is my formula:

Points are 2 per Kill, 1 per Assist. Based on this, I rank my player.

Now I will see how far I can get my men.

Spooky has made Gunnery Sergeant. I am still a lowly Corporal. Mercs that are aggressive can
get promoted faster. I have a LCpl and a PFC who cannot go further unless they improve their leadership.

If anyone is far advanced in JA2 UB Vietnam, I would love to have a screen shot of Kills & Assists to see where I would rank them.

There should be a "career" path for low LDR and high kills soldiers e.g. the US army differentiates between non-commissioned officers (NCO) and commissioned officers (CO), you can see this at the bottom of this page.

The idea is that soldiers with low LDR follow the NCO path while the ones with high LDR go along the CO path. In real life and within the game a soldier could switch from NCO to CO e.g. in the game when their LDR increases.

The challenge here is that in the game the NCO with LDR going over the threshhold e.g. 50 would have to start in front of the CO line independent of their kill ratio, but it would be acceptable for the NCO to CO switchers to progress faster on the CO path until they hit the regular kill ratios of the CO path.

Did I confuse you enough now? Sorry man, feel free to ask, I can explain more.

I think that are too many ranks (25!)

I prefer the same ranks from the pit (ranks that we achive).

About promotion: Wisdom and leadership is inportant. So nevertheless the number of kills merc could not get promotion unless the specific number of wisdom.

Knoledge and school give also a big part in promotion.

Guys,

So far it is working out. I am playtesting with JA2 UB - Vietnam.

I am not trying to be realistic here, I campletely understand how military work, ex AF brat, ex USMC.

What I am trying to gauge, is how my JA2 players will progress.

What I am hoping to do, once I get Items added to JA2 v1.13, is allow for players to role play with ranks as the see fit.

I only posted table as a guideline I came up with.

The high number of ranks is to cover everyones tastes. Some, may just want to have a rank and keep it for entire game.

If I can get my 4 set of ranks added to v1.13, then I can go into maybe more stuff.

Just figured out .xml, now on to how to add them...

1 baby step at a time...

Soviet Army (from UC)
Bear Pit (still need to discuss with moderators)

Possible 5th set: From post in about ranks that match levels.

I have to disagree on Wisdom. You can get real assh... in command, and it has nothing to do with their widom or yours...

Thus Leadership is the primary driver.

with higher wisdom your skills grow faster and merc becomes better. And thus he can promote quicker.


True that you get skills in combat. But only number of killed is not the measure for promotion.

At this point I just want to get ranks into v1.13 (as items), which I am trying to do. Then it is up to players to decide how they want to use them.

My preference is included, but by no means the way to do it.
