We have a lot of new features for 1.13 (jumping through windows, hiding unknown npc names, ...) and for that reason I would like to release test builds before an official 1.13 release exe will be public in SVN.

So anyone who is interested in helping hunting bugs is welcome. The first test build should be available in the next few days.

EDIT: OK, now I think it is time to do a function close for JA2 1.13 and release a beta test version of the latest 1.13 source code. We should focus on fixing bugs and make the current 1.13 version as stable as possible. Anyone who is interested in making a stable 1.13 version should join. We need testers (mainly for German, English and Russian version). We also need coders that like to improve the current 1.13 version and are interesed in fixing those nasty bugs.

It will be a closed beta test, so please post your name here and you can join. In about a week I will release the latest development EXE so you can start testing.

What needs to be tested:
1.) Of course the 1.13 EXE (in German, English and Russian)
2.) The Map Editor (including the creation of Big Maps)
3.) 1.13 Multiplayer
4.) INI Editor and XML-Editor

Please also mention if you want to help on coding and what language version (English, German, Russian) of 1.13 you would like to test.

I hope together we can make a quite stable version of 1.13!!

Here is a list of current registered Beta Testers and Coders:

I'll take a look at it as well.
Sorry for being so late with my revolver update, the current version doesn't seem to support saving and loading, so it would be hard to test my modifications. I will test it with multiplayer and send it in tonight if that's OK.

edit: Oops, I've just looked at the time the previous comment was posted and assumed the thread was new. Still glad to do some testing if needed, especially if saving will be enabled again. (And please, please, please, if the savegames will be broken again, include at least a handful of unused extra bytes so that if a new variable will be needed we could do it without having to break savegames again)

Play around with the merchant XML too while you are testing.

Where should I post the problems with the source code newer than the last exe release? I discovered the following so far, some of them I already mentioned in the bugs thread:

- no saving/loading (is the fault at my end?)
- aerodynamics of objects messed up (cannot throw grenades, can throw big items)
- some guns play the firing sound twice in multiplayer

These are so obvious bugs that anyone playing for a minute would immediately spot them, I just posted them because I've never seen them anywhere. If I'm wrong please just tell me to stop posting bugs about the unpublished code or just tell me where I should post them.

I volunteer to be a coder/debugger for this (single player only). If you have a problem post here with a full description. If it is something that I can't figure out from the description alone I'll ask for:

1) A save game
2) Your .ini file(s)
3) Any other file(s) you changed

Please package them in a .zip file.

Welcome SpaceViking and bonechucker.

We use Bugzilla for collecting bugs. Each Bug Report should have an attachment (a ZIP-Package) containing the savegame, and all the modified INI and XML files to reproduce the bug.

1.) Whats the problem, works fine for me
2.) Fixed, but was introduced in one of the latest revisions. It is only in the development source, so no one reported it before, because there is no EXE yet available
3.) I think that a known issue in multiplayer.

Do you have a bugfix for this? If yes can you post it here?

Based on the bug being found in a function called "StartCivQuote" could this be the cause of the missing civilian hints I noted a month ago in the SVN releases?

EDIT: here is the thread

Initializing the variable with 0 should be enough. Or maybe not, i'm not familiar with that code.

I might look at the one or the other thing, but i'm probably too busy with SMP.

This bug was introduced on 2010.04.19 into the MP branch (Jazz, r. 3481), so it might very well be the cause for that effect.

Whats the problem, works fine for me

It only happens when I build the Wanne/JA2 1.13 MP/ source: clicking the load button in the main menu does not do anything, just resets the music. Works fine with trunk/GameSource/ja2_v1.13/Build/

I discovered two other bugs while playing the latest exe release, and checked with the source and it did the same:

1. Enemies occasionally remain in running mode (they stay in the running animation) in turn-based even if they do nothing for several turns. I thought this was addressed already.
2. The game freezes during the AI turn. Not CTD but complete freeze, sometimes requiring reboot. Seems to be stuck in an endless loop while trying to calculate it's next strategy. There seems to be a correlation with using heavy weapons. The evidence what points me to believe this is the following story:
Killed everyone except two on the surface level of Orta, with a progress level high enough to allow strong heavy weapons. The two remaining enemies both had Lapua caliber sniper rifles, one of them additionally an M203 CLS grenade launcher. The game entered real time mode, and a couple of seconds later it froze. As I quicksaved and had no recent saves, I tried a lot of things, running away etc, but the freeze still occurred even when I nearly reached the other side of the map, so I'm sure they could not see me. I saved my campaign by firing my loudest rifle into the air: then I could continue playing without problems. It seems the enemy reevaluated its strategies after hearing the shot, and did not enter that loop which causes the freezing. This freezing happened once before a few days ago, I think it was when one of the last remaining enemies with a heavy weapon (I know it from the alt-text) started acting. Might just be a coincidence?
EDIT: Definitely AI decision making bug: had a freeze while the militia's turn was on. Giving them an order solvd the problem. It seems they enter that endless loop when they don't have a goal to follow?

I have savegames for both bugs, if anyone is interested.

3. Facility job flashing red indicating it has no effect, but it still has. Have a save at the Chitzena beach while training health. Happened sometimes elsewhere as well, but I don't remember what it was.

4. CTD when moving to San Mona mine from the west. Something about invalid diagonal (wtf?) waypoint selected. If I cancel the move, everything is normal. Have savegame from seconds before it happens.

5. Students are displayed as "dead" in the personnel screen. No other visible effects, I can use those mercs like any other. Might have something to do with the previous bug, because in debug mode there was a warning about a merc having the ID of 0 but still alive, shortly before the aforementioned CTD.

Sorry for only posting bugs not introduced by the new features. I'd be glad to get a built exe of the latest code, just to make sure the problems are not introduced by my compiler or builder.

At least I could do some JA2.exe testing.

I've been a long time out of business, so I'm not sure, if svn update + msdev /build will do the full job.

One question:
Is this Beta somewhere avail as "Single Click Install" or at least the JA2.exe itself?

Or have I to compile it on my own, finally?

with best regards,
Sarge

@all: No need to build your own exe. I will build full one-click-installers (English, German, Russian) for the beta-test. Should be at the end of the week until we have a few more beta-testers. Then I will post download links in the first posting of this thread.

Hi Rowa

Is there some priority list of bugs for fixing or just take any from MP and BMP bug list (but most of them are strictly related to big maps and multiplayer as understand we need to fix problems with normal maps)?

Some directory with savegame and problem description will be easier then play whole game from begin until bug appear.

Hi Kriplo,

I think it's better the Bugs from the normal Maps are fixing. The Big Map Project is for me on a experimental way currently.

The most Mods from german player are in normal maps and I have any big problems whit older maps and mapmods.
