Is there a document somewhere that gives all the details for the various armor upgrades, such as the medic and commando kits I've found? I've looked in the various wikis and searched this site and cannot find anything on the subject. The in-game descriptions merely state what armors they can be attached to, not what the effects of doing so are.

I remember reading somewhere that these armor upgrades are remains from the pre NIV era. Upgraded vests/leggins will allow for certain attachments like first aid kits, lockpicking kits and the like to save space under OIV.

Yes, they aren't going to be as useful as in the pre-NIV days, but I vaguely recall they also had other bonuses besides just allowing attachments.

@ShadoWarrior
Take a gander at the XML editor.

From a random sample (div. versions of kevlar vest):
Most notable seems to be recon with a good camo bonus. the others do minor changes on coverage/degredation, ap, aimed cth (really minor, one point here, one point there)

Looking at the XML editor isn't terribly helpful. For example, it doesn't tell me the sort of thing that DepressivesBrot just said. It also doesn't tell me whether a "Commando" upgrade is which of the stealth, recon, or field ops upgrades.

recon only fit to kevlar - afaik it is 'commando' - never used it - it's ugly

Actually I got these info from the xml-editor.
I just compared the upgraded versions with a standard kevlar vest, thats why I said 'random sample'

According to the XML editor, recon is not just for Kevlar.

When these items were first created I remember seeing a detailed posting in a thread giving all the stats for each upgrade. Unfortunately, searching this site no longer seems to locate that thread.

1. Whether they're obsolete is debatable, since they are present in UC113.

2. The XML lists stealth, recon, and field ops upgrades. It does not list 'commando'. And the in-game description of 'commando' does not limit it to Kevlar only, in-game it says it's for spectra armor. Though it wouldn't surprise me if the in-game descriptions were wrong, given that no one seems to much care about these 'obsolete' items.

there were upgrades in vintage uc, but iirc they were only two - they were applied to spectre shield, but they were better armors and you could store different stuff in them, compared to the ones i (and db) were talking about - you could have mentioned you're talking of uc or posted in the relevant thread - they looked like 1.13 police- and zylon- gear (no police-helmet, though)

the medic-u

Acutally in the Hybrid, the "Commando" and "Striker" upgrades are using the graphics from the old armour upgrades. The result however is Commando or Striker armour (I haven't bothered to clear away the attachment "pockets" yet) and NIV Load Bearing Equipment (LBE) specific to the UC armours. I am not following percisely the upgrade path in original Urban Chaos. For instance, once you have basic Commando armour, you may upgrade the Commando Vest LBE with these LBE's: SMG holster, 40mm grenade, LMG ammo pouch and one more that slips my mind for Commander LBE. The medic patch works as before.

Spectra and Dyneema armours may be upgraded.

The Stealth Suit and Recon amrours were left in by popular demand at the time, though this is the first post in a long time to bring up the subject.

EDIT: sorry, got the JA2 1.13 SWAT armour mixed up with Urban Chaos' Striker Armour (same graphic). Please see the current UC-1.13 Beta Testing thread for details.
