I've had it with them, I truly have. Not only do they keep shooting and sometimes killing their own, they run towards enemies as if they're fucking lemmings. I'm talking about blue militia here. Yeah, those guys who are supposed to know what is warfare about. No wonder Arulco got ovverun and miguel is hiding in a fucking basement. It's just so frustrating to see them blown apart as they cluster in groups, well, if they don't get blown up they blow each other away, full auto in the back of their friends head! Their Favorite way.

Civilians!? Who cares, casualties of war. Cover? Who needs cover!? They just run very close to an enemy and then crouch right next to them and finish their turn. Leaving me wondering what the hell do I do to minimize the militia losses.

They shot my IMP until he became swiss cheese awhile ago in the back; full auto with an AR on Insane 1.13. Un-fucking-believable.

actually milita becomes somewhat useful with headrock's suppression, when you need bullets flying and doesn't matter if hit, just stay away from their line of fire (thing you should be doing anyway)

or just leave them on their own, in autoresolve blues defeat almost anything except 20 black teams

not at all, they are just civilians with a rifle that lasted some days more than their friends, unless you "know what is warfare about" in few weeks of training ad surviving a couple of battles vs a 3rd world army (if yo'ure not training straight to blue)

Which leads me to believe that the entire militia training concept is severely skewed.
It takes but a few hours to train a man so that he can hold his gun and shoot relatively straight (i.e. Green).
It takes weeks (if not months) to train a man so that he can hold the line against incoming fire, and take cover when he's being under heavy fire (i.e. Regular).
It takes years to train a real professional who can execute complex tactical maneuvers and build and use tactical advantage over his enemy (i.e. Elite).

But who cares, this is just a game after all.

You want your militia do better in battle? Lead by example. Use Tactical Command feature and order your militia to advantageous positions. Well placed squad of Greenies led by a few smart mercs can stop quite a wave of enemy troops.

What I usually do is keep my squad away from the main force of Militia when attacking or defending a sector.

Exs: Entering prison while Militia shoots the guards and patrols outside.

Going to the opposite side of where the Militia is going in open field maps like Cambria Mine.

Throwing smoke/tear/stun grenades at the enemy so the militia can stupidly go 1hex the enemy somewhat safely while you snipe from behind or get away from the middle of the fight.

That's pretty much it... If all fails and I can't get away from those maniacs in blue shirts then I just throw some smoke grenades at the enemy and try to get out of their way.

I find that Militia works much better on their own with a little help here and there than clustering your mercs together with them.

A good example of that is Alma Mine, in 1.13 the reinforcements there are so massive that enemies will just throw a bunch of grenades at you if you stick with militia, it's best to let them meatshield one side while you go somewhere else or camp in a rooftop/building.

Militia never killed civilians on my games... But I've seen them throwing grenades dangerously close to neutral NPCs.

I don't know if those talk commands can actually be useful in battle, I'm just giving you some tips if you want to let your militia loose like hounds like I do.
