Hey Buns, I know how to change them, my issue was with the fact, sample or not, these traits are been put out with a release (optional...) of 1.13. Surely they should be more fine tuned to better reflect the original Merc traits.

After that, people can edit them whatever way they want to. As is, it's a bit sloppy to have an option that when turned on completely changes some aspects of the game(for the worse.)

Yes, I see.

I agree that some selections are somewhat debatable. But instead of completly disabling the entire function I'd rather suggest to open a thread for discussing which merc should have which trait.

You got me all wrong, i like the idea of new traits, it's just Wolf is always on my initial team if he's available. I was looking forward to trying a game with the new traits when i realised that he had lost his Nops trait. I was flabbergasted... WHY!!! Razz

You are right, there should be a thread to discuss the best way to implement the new traits if it is going to be an option in 1.13.

You couldn't give him Martial Arts if he had Doctor. As MA is the expert to HandToHand.
Maybe it should be setup so the ini setting for number of traits only affects IMP creation but hired personnel get all their assigned traits regardless of the setting? So you could give certain AIM mercs (there's been one or two other dubious assignments discussed were the merc would need a 4th skill) without allowing for overpowered IMPs.

I think we should implement a unique trait for Biff alone. It's from Fallout 3 and called Nerd Rage!: Quote:
You've been pushed around long enough! With the Nerd Rage! perk, your Strength is raised to 10 and you gain 50% to damage resistance whenever your Health drops to 20% or below.
Now wouldn't that be swell to finally have some use for him? Of course adjusted accordingly with regards to the stats. Smile

Give me a reason to hire Biff....

ok, what about Scouting? He would be in touch with Speck, and Speck might have hacked (accidently, of course) into the Pentagon system - now he has access to sattelite pictures of the region.

Yeah, the guy on your avatar (Reaper, that is) should be able to bite his victims to death or something along that line. :pitchfork:

Of course you don't see it. People in full ghillie suits tend to not be seen.
(No more bad jokes today, I promise.)
Not that biting someone to death would be in Reaper's nature. Well, maybe with the right motivation.

Well, I think he has a not very pleasant side of himself that stabs his victims in the balls before killing them but that's maybe just me. Smile The biting is maybe something for Maddog rather.

We should start a new thread to discuss these individual traits, just for shits n giggles.

Biff is, uhh, cheap.
Not hiring Biff even is cheaper.

For me each merc should give a reason to hire him or her, be it that he is a good marksman, good in something else, has an interesting trait (one that he can use without additional training), or at least is in a good physical condition and has a good wisdom so that I can expect him to become usefull in the near future.

None of the above applies to Biff or Flo. On top of that they are hated by a long list of better mercs, including some of their fellow M.E.R.C.s. Follows not hiring them is one of the most sensitive things to do; that's realy a waste of slots.

Flo gets a discount at Tonys. That is worth her cost almost immediately if you do a lot of business with him. She's also good at training militia with a little practice.

You just can't sell Biff. You either get him forced on you when everyone else is dead or you make a mistake and hire the wrong guy.
He's actually pretty cheap for bullet proof vest standards. And he's mobile!

Tank distraction? Probably cheaper than a smoke grenade.

Flo costs $255 a day and gets a 10% discount at Tony. This means you have to deal in weapons with Tony for $2,550 every day to at least be on +/-0. And this goes up when Flo starts to level. You can only achieve that when you completly ignore ALT+LMB and ship each and every gun you find down to San Mona. This in return requires someone like Hamous and his truck to be occupied with not much else than driving weapons to San Mona. And all this to return you the salery of a merc that otherwise is useless?

And that is only looking at if you just SELL stuff to Tony. If you also buy stuff he discount quickly adds up!

On standard settings he gets equipment earlier than Bobby Ray does and is a better source of rare ammo. I often leave Flo camped in Tony's back room the entire game. And I never, ever peak in on them without knocking.

I must say that I find Tony rather useless for buying stuff in 1.13. He somewhat always offers me ammo for weapons I don't have, or only Glasers for the weapons I have, or weapons for what neither he nor me has any ammo, or finally stuff that's in fact a bit better than the stuff the enemy had just been dropping for free, but not realy worth the effort of repairing from down 30%. This is probably a result of the more calibers and weapons being implemented.

Razor?
Virtually needs no sleep. Knifing expert. Good physical stats.

Haywire?
Razor's buddy. Knifing and auto weapons.

Hamous?
Stealthy. Okay physical stats.

Gumpy?
He has the potential to be the greatest mercenary ever with widom of 97.
note: I haven't seen him for a while due to the new mercenaries being forced on me via one click installers. AND NO I DON'T WANT TO PUT THE OLD MERCS IN MYSELF ASSHOLE(S)!

Shank?
Well if you train his strength and dexterity he can be a grenadier.

Biff?

Yeah, Gumpy is there. I am using him in my beta test run.

And Flo can learn enough leadership to train the militia in very short order due to her high wisdom. And then she gets really, really good at it again because of her high wisdom.

And "it" is teaching militia; get your minds out of the gutter! Sheesh.

They replaced some mercenaries on the A.I.M. page with the Wildfire mercenaries. What they considered to be uninteresting mercenaries and redundant mercenaries, they were eliminated. Some of the more interesting A.I.M. organization mercenaries were moved to M.E.R.C. So in effect, some of the M.E.R.C. roster was canned too.

All three are ok "infantry of the line", means no elite commandos but good soldiers, in particular Haywire as MG gunner and Hamous as designated marksman. You get what you have paid for.

Shank? I guess if you look up "useless" in the JA-dictonary you'll find a photo of Shank. He has every single stat below par, last but not least Agility which is close to impossible to properly train in a reasonable ammount of time. Only thing that's "ok" is his wisdom, but that's still below that of, for example, Meltdown's or Reaper's level, both who are certainly no academics either.

His physical statistics are low due to the fact of his age and incarceration in a military prison.
