Cannot hire ANYBODY on AIM[message #257741] Wed, 28 July 2010 09:40 Go to next message

Okay so I've played JA2 once before with 1.13 and had an absolute blast, but I never finished it so I'm giving it another run on my laptop now. Everything has been going pretty well, I own 2/3 of Drassen and another mine in the Northwest with two SAM sites. Militia are dug into defensive postions and patrols are helping to fight the enemy counterattacks. Now that I've consolidated a lot of cash and have a good base, I'm thinking of going on the offensive, and wanted to hire a new second squad.

However, I go to the AIM site and absolutely NOBODY will allow me to hire them. They all say my leadership is horrible, which I am confused about. I've been winning almost all my battles, own a sizable amount of the country, and generally have the same amount of progress I had in the previous game (Which let me hire a second squad easily). The only thing I could see affecting my standing is that Igor died on the way to Drassen airport in the first day, and two of my IMP's got killed defending it during a counterattack (but I just remade new ones afterwards).

But losing 3 Mercs in the early game shouldn't make every merc shun my organization, I'm fighting a WAR and people will DIE. If I lose any soldiers am I just not allowed to ever hire any other mercenaries again of any quality at all? I've been winning battle after battle, but everytime I ask someone to join my team they scoff me off. This is really a bummer on my game because I was really looking forward to my second squad.

I'm playing the newest build of 1.13, and a slightly edited weapons.xml. I get a crash whenever I open the Bobby Ray's confirmation email, do you guys think this might be a bug or something? Otherwise, its pretty ridiculous.

First off, Welcome to the boards Very Happy

And secondly i do believe that you are being shunned by the AIM due to those 3 deaths.

The higher the dying merc's experience was (even the imp's) the higher the penalty hit you get when they die on you.

I think the penalty hit goes like this (10*experiencelvl = pen hit)

So if you have 3 mercs with 2 experience each, you easily get 60 negrep and it can cause you to be shunned.
If i am correct you can fix it by simply winning more battles in the countryside and just kicking ass without carking it.

And if all else fails, you can always hire a Gumpy squad >.<

Man, these mercenaries are touchy about their wars. But as long as death does have a big modifier on it and I can fix it by kicking ass and taking names, I'll just keep trolling around the countryside. I'm not quite desperate enough to go calling MERC for some of their wonderful merchandise yet. Thank you for the help!

Well, there's always hiring some ass from MERC so they'll get some of their better personnel, but it takes a long time and about the only person who isn't a total bitchtit is Gumpy. And I've never personally used him, training in my opinion takes way too long.

Gasket's good when it comes to fixin' your weapons and stuff for ya. Almost for free too.
And that is pretty much everything useful about MERC(not counting the additions later).
